The Reception class is part of the wider school community and the Early Years

are focused on within the learning and are designed to prepare each child for the next
phase in learning.
Cedar Park School Aims:
For all children to be happy, safe and successful.
To provide an exciting, relevant and differentiated curriculum.
For all children to become confident, motivated and independent learners.
To encourage children to be kind, show respect and co-operate with others, be
responsible, to persevere and strive for excellence.
To develop children’s roles as individuals and as members of the local and
global community.
To promote healthy lifestyles.
The following promise and values have been developed with the children and supports
our behaviour expectations within school.

We will use what we know, persevere and strive for accuracy.
We will eagerly take on challenges with creativity and imagination.
Cedar Park School Values:
Kindness – being helpful and considerate.
Respect – patience, fairness and acceptance of all people.

others.
Responsibility – making our own decisions and choices.

Practical Information:
The school day for the Reception class begins at 8.40am and finishes at
3.10pm.
The class Teacher will be Mrs Franek.
We will organise a staggered start for the first week of the Autumn Term and
we will send you further information on this nearer the time.
Second hand uniform is available to purchase from Friends of
Cedar Park.
Hot and packed school meals are available free each day through the Universal
Free School Meals government funded service.
For safety we ask that long hair is always tied back and no jewellery is worn.
The best outcomes for all children are achieved with high attendance and
punctuality. Children can be unsettled by missing learning activities or by being
late where they may miss feeling part of the morning routine.
Leave of absence during the school term is strongly discouraged.
Pupil Premium Funding is an additional grant that the school receives to
improve the attainment of pupils identified as disadvantaged. If your family is in
receipt of certain benefits, then your child may be eligible for this additional
grant. Please email or call the school office for a confidential discussion on the
application process.
You will find attached a Home /School agreement. This agreement sets out how
we will support your child and our expectations of you as we work together
throughout your child’s learning journey at Cedar Park School
Please look through our Parents Code of Conduct document attached.
How can I support my child’s learning at home?
Listening to your child read and reading a range of texts together for information
and for enjoyment is at the heart of early learning.
Encourage mark making and writing for different purposes – postcards, thank
you notes, holiday diaries and shopping lists.
Provide a language rich environment where speaking clearly is valued and
there are lots of opportunities for talking. Encourage your child to use words to
communicate, answer questions and share ideas.
Recognising numbers in and around their local environment, encouraging
problem solving and use of weights, measures, time and money can support
early maths language and understanding.
Providing a set routine for home learning where the time is set aside for any
activities, the learning space is organised with everything needed, can help
make learning at home relaxing.
You can look at the Reception class web page on our school website for lots of
ideas.

Class tips from Mrs Franek:
1. Water bottles – brought to school every day (only water please) and
named, preferably on the side of the bottle so it can be easily seen
2. Outside jacket or coat – this needs to be warm, easy to do up, or
learn to do up, and waterproof. We will be outside regardless of the
weather and it can get very cold even in our covered sheltered areas
3. Scarves – no long, wraparound type scarves as they can easily
become caught on equipment
4. PE kit – stays in school and sent home every half term. ALL items
must be named. Please help your child to practise changing and talk
about the items of clothing, show them where name labels can be
found and talk about the names of clothing items included e.g. shorts,
house t-shirt, socks etc. Trainers please - NO plimsoles. Sometimes we
will be outside for PE, so one pair of jogging bottoms or leggings can
be included in the kit (they must be ankle length and not flare out).
Girls - please include a pair of socks if your daughter will be wearing
tights as part of their uniform
5. Book bags – please name on the outside (there should be a name
label slot). ONE small keyring will be allowed as it makes it easier for
children to quickly identify their bookbag from the storage box. Please
do NOT put water bottles inside book bags as they may leak and cause
damage to reading books and other school resources or information
6. Back packs – please avoid if possible as they take up too much room
on coat pegs and fall off easily
7. Wellie boots (named) – if possible, please could you provide a pair
for your child to keep in school
8. Watches - not suitable for children to wear as they may become
caught on equipment or mislaid
9. Arrival each morning - We will collect children from the top of the
pathway and escort them into the classroom. After a settling in period,
children can walk down the pathway towards me independently, but
please wait until they have reached us before leaving the playground
area, thank you. If they are reluctant to do so, then we will collect them.
