DIAMONDBACKS: Through at least next season, the Kane County Cougars will be

the Midwest League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dbacks are the sixth major league franchise to be affiliated with the Cougars since their entrance into the Midwest League in 1991. The Cougars spent two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles before joining up with the Florida Marlins for 10 years. The Oakland Athletics called Kane County their Midwest League home for eight seasons before the Kansas City Royals occupied the next two followed by two years feeding the Chicago Cubs. The Diamondbacks have been entrenched in the Midwest League for many years including many years with the South Bend SilverHawks. REIGNING MIDWEST LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: The Kane County Cougars are the

defending Midwest League Champions in 2015. As an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs last year, the Cougars finished with the league’s best record of 91-49 and went on a perfect 7-0 playoff run sweeping Wisconsin, Cedar Rapids and Lake County for the franchise’s second championship ever. Along with being named MiLB’s Team of the Year, the Cougars collected a handful of accomplishments such as Mark Johnson being named the Midwest League manager of the year, Jen-Ho Tseng winning the Cubs’ minor league pitcher of the year and pitching the team’s eight no-hitter in franchise history on May 17

th.

FIFTH THIRD BANK BALLPARK: Since 1991, the Kane County Cougars have

played their home games at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium, named after the former Kane County Forest Preserve President and the man most responsible for bringing Minor League Baseball to Kane County. In 2012, the stadium was renamed as Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Fifth Third Bank will be the stadium’s naming rights holder for the next three seasons. As part of the deal, the Kane County Events Center, which encompasses the baseball stadium and other venues off Kirk Road, will be renamed the Philip B. Elfstrom Events Center. THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: 1973– olan Ryan, who lasted just one-third of an inning in his previous start, throws the first of his seven career no-hitters, including another one in two months. The 'Ryan Express's 3-0 gem is the first no-hit game to be played in Kansas City's Royals Stadium. THIS DATE IN NON-BASEBALL HISTORY: 1958 – Sputnik III is launched by the

Soviet Union. VENUE FACT: Fox Cities Stadium was built in 1995, and now holds 5,900 people. It is also the host of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association High School Spring Baseball Championship.
