    Topic outline:

    Literacy: in this topic all the children will write personal and

    persuasive letters in the context of a Victorian child; which will

    lead on to writing letters to friends about charities. We will be

    thinking about adverbial phrases, using varied sentences and

    using higher level punctuation effectively throughout our work.

    Mathematics: in maths we will be learning how to order numbers

    up to 2 decimal places, understand and use place value, using the

    four operations (add, subtract, times and divide) to help solve a

    range of problems. E.g. Can you order these numbers? O, 12, 1.2,

    18 and 3.

    Science: in science we will be finding out about how medicine has

    developed from the Victorian era to the modern day. We will belinking this to the heart and lungs: comparing the working

    conditions of then and now.

    Street Child- Berlie Doherty

    The Vile Victorians- Terry Deary

    A Christmas Carol- Charles Dickens

    The Lottie Project- Jacqueline Wilson

    Hetty Feather- Jacqueline Wilson

    Check the school library and Bolling Hall library.

    Bradford Industrial Museum Saltaire- is an old Victorian town, with streets and a mill to

    explore. Bolling Hall

    Armley Mills in Leeds- Year 5 will be visiting this museum in the

    Your child will be sent a reading book, get them to talk about the characters

    and setting. Ask them to predict the ending. Get them to write a book review.

    Homework: We will send homework on a Wednesdayand expect it

    back on a Monday.

    Reading Records: Aim to listen to your child read at least twice a

    week, You can make notes of progress and see teacher comments

    in your childs reading record book.
