Enjoying a tropical touch during winter

Even with cold temperatures outside, the warmth and fun soared inside with entertainment by the ukulele band The Hawaiian Treasures. Mary Lee, a bungalow resident who is part of the group, and the other performers presented a show of singing, dancing, and even a mini grammar lesson on Hawaiian words. This was their first visit to Touchmark, and everyone is already looking forward to their return. A Hawaiian buffet dinner followed the entertainment.

The Touchmark Red Hat chapter enjoyed a recent tea with an assortment of sandwiches, fruit, and cookies along with a glass of sherry. Pictured (from left): Life Enrichment/Wellness Director Joan Drake, Thelma Kaye, Nancy Hawrelak, Grace Ruiter, Wendy Rempel, Dorothy Dreger, and Nan Vipond.

Shaw TV featured one of Happy the Clown’s recent visits to Touchmark’s Health Services Neighbourhood and shared some of her inspirational story. Happy is pictured with resident Edith Mould.

Happy (Tracy Merry-Thomson), who has multiple sclerosis, loves bringing joy to others. She recently started the Laps of Laughter Project, making and inspiring others to make blankets that give warmth and “hugs” to those in wheelchairs.
