WHAT IS HIGHER EDUCATION ALL ABOUT?
“is an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after secondary education. Often delivered at universities, academies, colleges, seminaries, and institutes of technology”
What most researches overlooked is that, it is a very expensive stage (money and time wise), taken in critical years - with a conception - to help shaping and improving the future of its takers, with better and more job and work opportunities and alternatives
For short it is “future investment”, that should be paid only once.
HISTORY OF QC & QA
It is history, so we won’t talk about it They are exist by default (it is a must in now a days), so it is not something to brag for If you are still having such departments in your University then YOU ARE A DINASOUR “Future” “Present” is TQM
TQM FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
Don’t put in mind the new ISO standards that are based on TQM for Higher Education Never mind the new accreditations bodies for Higher Education Institutes (HEI) Focus on the practice Consider it your University future/present ticket, not “only” to stay in HEI’s competition, but
to improve its place It is a vision and mission
HOW TO KEEP YOUR STUDENTS (MORE MONEY)?
Run the university and education processes with TQM in mind Eliminate of fear Take students conversation off the Social Media Measure students dissatisfactions, using tools like “uservoice.com”, and principles like:
Pareto Principle Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) Ishikawa Cause and Effect Analysis (Fishbone Diagrams)
Use proper IT solutions to facilitate all their day activities (class assessment, advising, LMS, .. etc)
Engage them in University’s core activities
HOW TO ATTRACT MORE STUDENTS?
TQM implementation proof “again” More interest on Current Students “word of mouth is the secret most costly marketing
agent, use it or it might be used against you” Point Out and Announce success stories Real social interaction Real ORM (Online Reputation Management) Job Fairs (show them the future) Profession Related free public sessions Alumni Club, and Anniversaries gatherings
OUTER/INNER CUSTOMER EQUATION
It is not about which is more important, because without one of them and other won’t exist If the front liner employees (inner customer) – everyone deals directly or indirectly with
students - is not happy, that will reflect on their service TQM should be rooted inside the inner customer TQM should be taught to students (outer customer), to learn how to:
Use their facilities efficiently Get the most benefits of their lectures Use their voice in constructive way towards their University Use their rights and respect its limits
CONCLUSION
TQM is not an option, it is a must for today HEI Students voices can’t be avoided or suppressed, so it must be carefully managed and
listened to Same point goes for inner customer, they also shouldn’t be overlooked Reputation is money, so it should be managed effectively Attraction of new students, can be by focusing on the current ones Listening and involvement is the key to keep current students Help the current/future students to see their future after your University Continues Improvement is the key for survival in today fast paste world, if you will start
tomorrow it might be very late
