Prescott Centennial Pool offers all levels of the Lifesaving Society’s Swim For
Life® instructional program. Eight modules contain the many levels, which stress
in-water practice to develop solid swimming strokes and skills, as well as
Water Smart® education which will last a lifetime.
Children can begin swimming lessons at 4 months old. Developing comfort
within the water, as well as a healthy respect for it, is necessary in order for
swimming lessons to be as successful as possible later on. Twenty-one levels of
swimming lessons are offered at our pools, including Bronze levels. If your child
has never participated in swimming lessons before, we will do an assessment to
place them in the correct level range. It is never too late to learn how to swim, or to
improve your swimming strokes and endurance. For adults, we offer a stroke
correction class as well as a fitness swimming class.

Youth Ages 6 – 12
In this mini-version of the Y.A.T.P., students from ages 6-12 years old will explore
the language and characters of Shakespeare while playing theatre games and
improvising scenes. They’ll learn to build character and move a story forward
while having a great time playing with words!
July 27 – 28 $60.00 + HST
Youth Ages 13+
Students 13 and up will explore Shakespeare’s work through pared down versions
of the plays being produced by St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival this summer.
We will begin with the stories themselves, and through improvisation and text
work, will develop our own scripts to tell those stories. Drama games, story telling,
team building activities and scene study are all elements of the Young Artist
Training Program, which promises to be a fun-filled week of exploration and
discovery. At the end of the week students will perform in a public showcase. No
previous experience necessary!

Prescott Loyalist
Days Returns!
This event celebrates and
explores Canada and
Ontario's proud history and
people, and the places and
events which shaped it.
The United Empire Loyalists
came to Canada in the
aftermath of the 18th century
American Revolution
(1765-1783).
As their name implies, U.E.
Loyalists wished to remain
faithful subjects to the Crown
and under the legal and
legislative institutions that
derived from the Crown in
British North America.
Loyalists were of diverse
cultural backgrounds, and
included individuals and
families of Aboriginal,
English, French, African
American, Dutch, German,
and other ancestries.
The Loyalists settled Ontario
and established hamlets and
towns that grew into large
cities. Ontario colleges and
universities, law courts,
a system of landholding and
the provincial legislature all
have their origin in Loyalist
roots and perseverance.
The Constitutional Act of
June 19, 1791, created the
province of Upper Canada,
Ontario as we know it today,
and this law came into being
directly as a result of
Loyalist influence.
The Loyalists fought
against subsequent
American invasions into
Canada.
The Loyalists were
instrumental in
developing a distinctive
national identity that
was, and is, uniquely
Canadian.
The Loyalists were
connected so closely
with early Ontario's
development and
founding that it would
be no exaggeration to
say that Ontario, as we
know it today, simply
would not exist were it
not for the United
Empire Loyalists.
Loyalist Days
Watch for further details on the
program of events to come!
Kids carnival games, moonlight movie, explosive
re-enactment battles, flash & roar fireworks, adult dance, kids
programming & events, high fashion show, re-creation of the
Loyalist’s beach landing,
naval adventures, and much more!

Water Quality Testing
Water quality testing is conducted weekly by the
Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit.
Results are shared on the Prescott Centennial Pool
facebook page, and the website and social media
accounts of the Health Unit.
Signage is posted at the beach in the event of a
“Caution” or “Closure” alert as a result of high
levels of bacteria in the water.
These high levels can increase a swimmer’s risk of
developing irritations and infections. The most
common problems are minor skin, eye, ear, nose,
and throat infections, and stomach illness.
Periods after rainfall are most likely to have high
levels of bacteria in beach water. While the Health
Unit strives to alert swimmers when conditions are
not suitable for swimming, the public must be aware
that conditions may change, and that there is always
a level of risk when swimming in untreated water.
