What is the park used for?

The site can be hired by businesses, schools and members of the public for events, training and as an education centre. We are open to the public when a member of staff is on site, so please do contact us before you plan a visit.

The site is equipped with a bird hide and pond dipping platforms. The Education Centre provides indoor facilities including; an ICT suite and microscopes, training facilities, conference rooms, free wifi, a kitchen area and toilets.

There is also a large and scenic picnic area for you to enjoy your lunch break in. Please contact us before visiting to check opening times.

The park is owned and managed by Groundwork MSSTT, a local environmental regeneration charity. With help from volunteers, Groundwork maintains the natural habitat of the park for local people, businesses and wildlife to enjoy for years to come.

History of Trafford Ecology Park

The site was originally part of the ‘De Trafford’ Family estate but was enveloped by encroaching industry in the early 1900s.

In the following years the area was used as a tipping site by industry and partly filled with construction rubble and slag from the steel works.

Work to restore the site began in 1988 by Trafford Park Development Corporation. Since then Groundwork Man-chester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford(MSSTT) have regenerated the side into a Site of Biological Impor-tance and rely on volunteers to help with the up-keep of the park.
