INTRODUCTION
An instance or situation in which one deliberately acts out or assumes a particular character or role.
Role playing is not just "practicing working with an imaginary customer out loud." Role playing allows a
group of employees to act out work scenarios.
It opens communications, and for the amount of time when it puts a player 'on-the-spot,' it also gives a
great deal of confidence and develops camaraderie among those participating in (doing) the role play
situations.
Role playing can be used in every department by management and employees to practice business
situations. Role playing should be done in a low-stress environment, which makes it easier to learn.
The trainer can critique the role play situation and corrections can be made immediately by more
rehearsal.

HOW IT WORKS:
Role playing is when a group of people act out roles for a particular scenario.
For instance:
• You might train sales people by having two people act out a sale-scenario. One acts as the
sales person. The other acts as the customer.
• This allows trainee sales people to practice their sales techniques. A trainer and/or other
trainees may watch the role play and critique it afterwards.
Team role-playing is similar, except that two or more teams actively participate
For instance:
• A software company learns that customers are unhappy with customer support and this is
causing a loss of customers. In order to improve customer support, the company decides to
use team role playing.
NECESSITIES:
Good script.
Mutual understanding between one another.
DO’S & DON'TS:

• Warm up before play.
• The voice should be audible during play.
• The facial expression should be good.

TYPES OF ROLE PLAY:
There are various types of role plays, such as:
Multiple Role Play – In this type of role play, all trainees are in groups, with each group acting out the
role play simultaneously. After the role play, each group analyzes the interactions and identifies the
learning points.
Single Role Play – One group of participants plays the role for the rest, providing demonstrations of
situation. Other participants observe the role play, analyze their interactions with one another and
learn from the play.
Role Rotation – It starts as a single role play. After the interaction of participants, the trainer will stop
the role play and discuss what happened so far. Then the participants are asked to exchange
characters. This method allows a variety of ways to approach the roles.
Spontaneous Role Play – In this kind of role play, one of the trainees plays herself while the other
trainees play people with whom the first participant interacted before.
