Thanks for a magazine that applies to EVERYONE, with tips we can use and clothes we can afford, Trendslation offers more than the bigger mainstream magazines. What other magazine is able to dedicate a page to ‘’comfy’’ clothes? We all know it’s not Christmas Morning if you don’t can’t spend it in your favorite pajamas! It’s a great touch that it can be picked up in store or viewed online, for those of us with busy lifestyles (especially during the holiday season) that’s perfect! Trendslation really has all the bases covered! This was a Terrific First issue, I’m looking forward to the next one! “

Thanks to everyone who submitted a review. We look forward to hearing what you think of the February issue.

Spring is in the air, almost. Though we still have snow on the ground and find ourselves discussing the windchill, we can’t wait for tank tops and capris. This issue breaks down a bohemian look with a Victorian twist. The perfect look to usher in spring while it’s still too chilly for your favourite capris. Our center spread is packed with tips to help you care for your blues, blue jeans that is.

Thanks to the great response, Trendslation has grown and our second issue is twice as big. That means twice the tips and twice the trends. Our back page features some gorgeous lace back tops and our favourite “Funny Guy” tees.

With February just around the bend we want to know your ideal Valentine’s day. Take our Facebook poll find out how your dream day measures up.

THELOOKBohemian meets Victorian. A floral story with mystery and charm. Ease into spring with accessories in soft vintage hues, antique brass and pewter with the weathered feel of a forgotten paradise.

GET THE LOOKSWEET AND CONFIDENT, THIS LOOK

IS SOFT AND BEAUTIFUL AS WELL AS

STRONG. DON’T BE AFRAID TO MIX

ACCESSORIES, OLD AND NEW, RAID YOUR

GRANDMOTHERS JEWELRY BOX AND

COMPLEMENT WITH NEW PIECES. KEEP

IN MIND THIS LOOK IS A BIT CLUTERED.

KEYS, FLOWERS AND HEARTS IN PEWTER

AND WORN BRASS GIVE THIS LOOK SOME

UNPOLISHED APPEAL.

KEEP HAIR SOFT AND NATURAL, BRAIDED,

SWEPT TO THE SIDE OR DOWN IN SOFT

WAVES OR STRAIGHT. TRY PUTTING YOUR

HAIR IN TWO SLIGHTLY DAMP BRAIDS

BEFORE GOING TO BED. TAKE THEM OUT

IN THE MORNING, COMB THROUGH WITH

YOUR FINGERS AND YOU’RE OFF.

Tying the look together: A floral neck scarf is a key part of this look. If you don’t want to hide your great necklace(s), try wearing it as a belt or head band. Just make sure you pull it through all the belt loops and don’t leave it hanging.

A great trick to wearing a head scarf if you have bangs is to pull your hair into a loose ponytail at the back of your neck. Place the scarf above your forehead where it feels the least likely to slide around, then tie it under the ponytail, it will cover about half of your ears. Make sure it feels secure then slide off the elastic and you’re good to go. See front cover shot for example.

LIFESTYLE

DENIM DISSECTION

January is all about a new year so why not some new jeans? This year, treasure your denim, take care in choosing the right pair of jeans for your lifestyle and make sure to treat them well in the laundry room.

DARK DENIM CHEAT SHEET

Denim care tips from effortless and essential to

those requiring a bit more time and attention.

1. Always turn your dark denim inside out. Always.

2. Do not put your jeans in the dryer. Keep them

inside out and hang or lay them flat to dry.

3. To protect your other clothes, always wash new

denim on its own for the first few washes.

4. Use a liquid detergent, preferably a dark formula. Just make

sure you only wash other dark colours in the same load.

5. Use as little detergent as possible to get

your jeans reasonably clean.

6. Wash your denim in cold water. Only do this if you are

using a liquid detergent. Powder does not dissolve as well

in cold water unless the packaging states otherwise.

7. If you can wash a load of only jeans, add a cup of

salt to a medium load to help prevent fading.

8. Time permitting, turn off the washing machine once it is full

of water and allow your jeans to soak in the salt water for 10

minutes, or use your washing machine’s pre-soak feature.

The most common denim elements defined.

1. SPADE POCKET:Standard pocket on the back of most jeans. Named after the garden tool of the same shape.

2. BELT LOOP:May not be present on some dressier styles. If you plan to pick up a pair of jeans with more than 2% lycra or spandex, make sure they have belt loops in case the waist expands a bit after a few wears.

3. YOKE SEAM:The yoke seam helps prevent the waistband from gaping open at the back.

4. WAISTBAND:The waistband can be a straight piece of fabric or it can be a curved, contour waistband, which is ideal on low rise denim.

5. COIN POCKET:Not as useful now that jeans are tighter but this pocket was originally designed to keep change from bouncing around the larger pocket.

6. FRONT RISE:The length of the rise is what is referred to when choosing between low, mid or high rise pants. The height of the rise could be chosen based on comfort or fashion.

7. INSEAM:When sizes are indicated in 2 measurements, the second measurement refers to the inseam length. This may also be referred to as regular, long or short.

THE 9 TO 9 GIRLFIT: MID RISE SKINNY

WASH: DARK INDIGO

Off to work then heading out for dinner or drinks? Dark Denim skinnies are for you. Pair with a blazer, woven white shirt and flats for day. Follow up with a great pair of heels and swap the white shirt for a black tank and long earrings and you’re off to dinner.

The wash of these jeans is a little more high maintenance but should be manageable if you’re only washing laundry for one person (if his mom didn’t teach him to do his own laundry, this is not your fault.)

THE FRESHMANFIT: MID RISE FLARE

WASH: DARK VINTAGE

The dark vintage wash will hold up longer in the washing machine than a really dark jean and requires less maintenance in the long run. The dark vintage wash however still feels young and modern and the more it fades out, the better it looks..

The flare leg as well as the mid rise are both comfortable and curve flattering while directing attention away from the mid section. From a late night out with friends to an early morning class, even if you fall asleep studying on the couch, these jeans will always look great and feel comfy.

THE WEEKEND WARRIORFIT: MID RISE RELAXED

WASH: DARK ANTIQUE

DESTROYED

A destroyed wash is ideal for an outdoorsy girl. For camping, gardening or playing ball with the guys, the distressed look of these jeans are waiting to take a beating. The uneven antique colour really shines the more you wash them, and you wash them a lot.

The relaxed fit ensures you’ll always be comfortable and the mid rise will make sure your tush stays hidden while bending over weeding or diving to make the catch of the game.

THE SOCCER MOMFIT: LOW RISE BOYFRIEND

WASH: DARK VINTAGE

After work you’re off to pick the kids up at school, then there’s volleyball or ballet or piano, and you find you’re spending more time in the car than anywhere else. A low rise jean with a relaxed leg is perfect for sitting all day at work or all evening in the car. The roomier boyfriend fit wont bunch up under your knee when sitting for long periods.

With all the driving and working you do we’re sure there isn’t much time to focus on laundry and a dark vintage wash is low maintenance and looks better as it starts to fade out.
