JANUARY 2011

FROM PILLAR OF WISDOM

Ladies and BrothersWe begin the year on a

high note. We have a full andenergized line of officers dedi-cated to improving themselvesand their lodge.

The coming year at SWHackett Lodge is to be dedi-cated to improving communi-cation with our brothers andhonored ladies wither-so-everdispersed to be sure no one isfalling through the cracks soto speak; and to initiate con-tact with existing and prospec-tive brothers who use socialgroups on the internet via pc,mobile and handheld devicesas part of their daily routine.

At the January statedmeeting we will go over allcommittees and they willinclude a couple that havebeen newly formed toachieve these tasks.

The CommunicationsCommittee is being formedto contact and update ourentire roster. Along with cor-recting errors to the recordthe brothers on this commit-tee will listen to discover anyquestions or needs of ourbrothers and widows on ourroster. This is a big chargeand thanks to Bob Salini fortaking it on as chairman.

If needs are discoveredthey will be turned over to theappropriate committe and thepillars to follow up.

The Social MediaCommittee has been createdto make use of new lines ofcommunication created by theinternet. I will am workingclosely with Jim Williams onthis. This brother expressed aninterest in working to set up aFacebook presence for thelodge and will so be chairmanof this one.

Notable committees tomention are the HonoredLadies Luncheon which willbe chaired again this year byMaebell Haslim and assistedby Ingrid Stahr; JimAchenbach, PM will continuehis good works on thePartnership in EducationCommittee and our spellingbe will which is scheduled tobe on February 17th atSequoia Elementary; andnegotiations continue withEast San Diego Lodge into thepotential of a consolidation.Ron Detzer, PM will nowchair this committee.

Thanks to all who partic-ipated in the annualChristmas Dinner distribu-tion. As always a great suc-cess for families of kids atSequioa Elementary identi-fied by their principal.

Brethren and Ladies:First, looking back, I

want to thank Wor. Kyle forhis help and work with theLodge in 2010. As all theMasters I have known in myshort Masonic journey, it wasfun to work with him and dowhat I could to assist him. Now, 2011 begins and ournew Master, Steve, is movingquickly with his plans andideas for SW Hackett. I, andthose I have spoken with arecommitted to assist Wor.Steve in making his a goodand productive year.

We do have challengesthis year, and probably morethan we have had in thepast, at least since I havebeen a member of SWHackett. I believe that withthe true brotherhood andcohesion of our Lodge, anyand all issues will be handled

with the Brothers, their fam-ilies and the good of theLodge in mind.

No matter what mayoccur, we should, at thistime, all work to maintainthis great Lodge that we are apart of and continue tostrengthen and support it.We have a strong officer’sline of dedicated Brothers for2011, and even someBrothers waiting to get intothe line so they too can dotheir part in giving backsomething to the Lodge thatis theirs. I consider myselfvery fortunate to be in theWest this year and thank allwho have offered to supportme in my effort to serve.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Dennis Stahr,Senior Warden

and all. This should prove tobe quite a year indeed. Wefind ourselves stopped at afork in the road trying todecide which to take. Onewill take us down a familiarroad, it’s brightly lit, withsome ruts, and a few pot-holes, but with our good oldbrothers to help us navigatethe terrain, we will, no

doubt, come out on theother side just fine. Theother road is strange, it’sdark, with lots of curves, buteven though none of us havebeen down this road beforetogether our light will burnbright enough that we cannavigate this one also. Iguess my point is, togetherwe can, do anything...,

PONTERINGSGeometry has now

been recently applied tomeasure the whole totalityof universe we live in andsome interesting numbershave arisen that may wellboggle the mind at firstpass. It has been determinedour universe is 156 billionlight years wide but moreconfounding is it has alsobeen determined to be 13,7billion years old. Our theo-ries state light speed cannot be exceeded, the uni-verse is the result of the BigBang, so how can bothnumbers be right? In a wordinflation, it acts like com-pound interest, and here isthe visual. Lets say that theuniverse is a million years

old and a bunch of lighttravels for one year, that'sone light year right? yesthen but wrong now here isthe why, consider our uni-verse was then a thousandtimes smaller than today, thus that one light year isstretched to become a thou-sand light years by today'smeasure anyhow it all addedup to 78 billion light yearsas a radius or 156 billionlight year as the diameter ofour universe with perhaps itbeing 10% larger. Take twoaspirins and call the Masterin the morning if persistentheadache has occurred.

Most Masons have a senti-mental attachment to theLodge where they were made aMaster Mason. This Lodge forme is 3000 miles away and geo-graphically located wheresome of the very firstAmerican Mason's lived andworked. By that token, onewould believe that if everyonedid their part, the ritual wouldbe as close to the original workthat was brought to our greatcountry as 234 years of humaninteraction would allow. Irecently had occasion to visitmy "Mother Lodge" and attenda Third Degree. What Iremember from my own degreeand proficiency, called a cate-chism in "Ancient" Lodges, inthat very room was nothingshort of perfect 14 years ago.Why then was I sitting inLodge, not feeling that senti-mental attachment? I don'tbelieve it was sloppy ritual orrod work, or Brothers that real-ly didn't put their heart intotheir work, I believe it has todo with energy.

At the conclusion of everyDegree I have attended, I speak

about the energy I feel in ourLodge. Every living organismcontains and emits energy andin Lodge, this energy is the sumtotal of every Mason in theroom. My reason for affiliatingwith S.W. Hackett has every-thing to do with the energy Ifeel from the first momentBrothers are invited to seats inthe Lodge Room. Our Pillarsrepresent a part of this energyand I believe we will be welllead in 2011. Our line is strongthis year and we have severalEntered Apprentice and FellowCraft Brothers keeping ourcandidate coach busy and con-tributing to this energy. Iwould like to thank everyonewho regularly comes to Lodgeand contributes to what makesS.W. Hackett special. If youhave not been in awhile, pleasecome and see the work ourBrothers are doing. When wefill the seats on the side lines, ithas a dramatic effect on whathappens on the floor of theLodge Room. One aspect ofthis effect of course is it showsthe candidate our strength andsupport, but way beyond this
