February: Peanut
Butter and Jelly
A Pastor’s Ponderings Well folks, it’s that time of year again; you know… Love is in the air! It
is February, the month of love, Valentine’s Day, Cupid and his piercing arrows.
It is time to say, “I love you and Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet
and so are you.” Pretty soon you will see it all - red hearts, pink roses, balloons,
cards, candy, and animals that sing songs of love. I remember as a child making
special valentines for my parents and grandparents. It is such a special time!
Store shelves soon will overflow with symbols of love. They began the
day after New Year's to get ready for Valentine’s Day. Do you know that more
roses are sold on that day than any other day in the year? All over the world, it
is the day that people show their love for someone special. Valentine’s Day is a
great occasion to express love and appreciation for any of our loved ones, but it
is just as important to show little acts of kindness the other 364 days of the year.
My question is, “Why wait?” I can do without a dancing gorilla singing
Love Me Tender, but I sure would miss getting that hug and kiss from Laurie if
it was only given one time a year. Why wait? I am thankful to have two
children who show their love openly. I love Dow and Emma’s nightly ritual
when they say, “Good Night, Dad. I love you.” I pray that they will never grow
out of that! Love does not wait! I guess that is because we only have today.
We are not promised tomorrow.
It means a lot when family and friends want to spend time with you,
share a meal, or just talk. God tells us in scripture how much He loves us. He
promises never to leave or forsake us, to answer us when we call, day or night.
He never slumbers nor sleeps. We need to tell Him how much we love Him 365
days a year as well.
Flowers will die. Candy gets eaten. Balloons will pop. Stuffed animals
may stop singing. Cards may get lost or thrown away, but the love that is shared
with one another, and God’s love for us, will never pass away. May you find
little ways to show some acts of kindness to those you love before and after
Valentine’s Day this year. Let love be in the air at all times!
Reverend Michael Ritter

TREASURER’S REPORT (DECEMBER 2017)
Music Ministry News I saw something the other day that was talking about how quickly time goes by. It said that January is
almost over; February lasts only a couple of days; Easter will be here soon, followed by the 4th of July.
Summer will be over, and we will start decorating for Christmas. 2018 is almost done. This is so funny but
in a way very true. We have to plan for the next season while we are in this one. I started thinking about
music for Lent and Easter several weeks before Christmas, and I am already looking at music for summer
and patriotic songs. You must be a step ahead. If not careful, I can get confused about what season we are
currently in.
This month not only starts the Lenten Season but also the choir will be doing another evening concert. Ash
Wednesday is on February 14th. This starts the season of Lent. The choir will do special music each Sunday in Lent,
which goes through the last Sunday of March, which is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. (More about that
next month)
On Sunday evening, February 25th, the choir will do a concert in the Concert Series. We plan to do some very fun
songs that I am sure everyone will enjoy. If you attended the last concerts and enjoyed them, I hope you not only will
attend this one but also spread will the word. Music is a great way to spend time, whether singing or listening. It brings
out many emotions and can make you feel things that you might not have even been aware were there. Please put this
date on your calendar and make plans now to join us. I know you will enjoy yourself. Watch for a concert next month
for the handbells and orchestra. The handbells will also play during the morning service the second Sunday of
February, which is the 11th.
Thanks,
Melody

Worship Committee:
Worship Committee meeting is on Thursday, the 15th, at 10 in the AG Greene building.
Name and Number Please
The new year of 2018 has begun, and we
wish to thank you for using the new enve-
lope system and putting your name and
number on the envelope. That is a great
help in being sure you get credit for your
contributions. If you have not picked up
your envelopes yet, please contact Leslie
Volpe, our administrative assistant, to
arrange to pick them up. If you would like
to pick them up on Sunday, she will arrange
to leave them in the back hallway. If you
do not pick them up on the Sunday you
requested them, please call or email the
church to arrange for another Sunday.
Again, thanks for remembering to put your
name and number on the envelope, or if you
just write a check, on your check.

Once again we'll be serving those delicious
pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. The date is
Tuesday, February 13th, from 5 to 7 pm.
The cost remains the same - $5.00 for
adults and children ten and younger eat
free.
We'll be mailing 5 tickets to everyone the end of January,
and we ask that you purchase them. You can always give
some to family, neighbors and friends. And, again, all
proceeds will go to A Relay for Life.
This has always been a fun night. So, mark your
calendars and plan to join us. We promise good food and
fellowship. You'll be happy you came.
Hope to see you there!
As you know, Trinity just completed a
very successful blood drive. One for April
is already scheduled, and we look forward
to making it even more successful.
Trinity is looking to advance the opportunities to help
our church family. As you know, we do blood pressure
testing once a month as well as CPR training at least
once a year. We now have two volunteers who are doing
these programs, but more help is needed if we are to
expand other areas of screening.
If you are interested, please contact the Church Office
at 843-272-5236.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Congregational Care offers several answers to questions.
How do I get to my doctor's appointment?
Will the church keep in touch even if I can't always
attend?
Will someone recognize my need for prayer if I'm
sick, have a birthday, or am grieving for a family
loss?
Will I be able to have the communion brought to me? Make a call to the church, leave a message for Debbie
Snow or call Marianne Vandawalker (843-945-0866).
Many on our teams are ready to serve your family needs.
If we don't know, we can't serve, and we LOVE to serve.

24 Hours That Changed the World
This study takes a look into the day leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus.
This study will both remind of Christ’s great love for us as well as prepare
us for Easter.
Thursdays at 6 pm beginning Feb. 15th with Pastors Michael, Ed and Dan
Sunday Nights from 5 pm - 6:30 pm starting Jan. 7th
All elementary aged kids are welcome!
Jesus tells us in John 8 that He is the light of the world! What a great feeling to know that no matter
where we are or what we are facing we always have His light to help us through it. We are never alone!
We hope that on Sunday nights children through lessons, crafts , music and games learn more about
their savior who loves them. We are all His Light keepers!
(We will not be meeting February 18th due to the holiday weekend.)
Trinity’s Youth program is up and running! All Middle and High School students are invited to join us. We are meeting Sunday nights from 5pm until 6:30 pm.
Our theme verse for the year is Colossians 1:10 which tells us if we live a life pleasing to God we bear fruit and grow in knowledge of our creator! What an incredible
goal to strive for. We will integrate music, scripture, prayer and plenty of fun along the way also.
Education Committee
Meeting February 6th
at 5:30 pm
Sign up for this study by filling out the insert on Sunday or contacting the church office.
YOUTH PRAYER BREAKFASTS will be here soon.
Like last year we will be meeting at the McDonalds
across from Barefoot Landing at 7:00 am for prayer,
devotion and breakfast. Our first breakfast will be
Thursday, February 22nd.
Sunday, February 4th, our Light keepers
and Amplified will be holding a Super Bowl
party here in the Fellowship Hall. They will
meet at 5 pm, so they will still have time for
their normal programming and can watch
the Super Bowl after. Parents are welcome
to join us at 6 pm for the game.
Amplified is trying to build a
well! On Super Bowl Sunday, if
you have a few extra dollars,
drop it into one of the Soup Pots
as you leave the service assigned
to the Patriots or the Eagles.
Hopefully, we will raise enough
to build a well!

January was a very active UMW month as it included the District training of officers, our formal
installation of Trinity UMW Officers before the church, a very well-attended general meeting that
featured speakers about the J-1 Foreign Student Program and the State/District/Local focus upon
Mass Incarceration/Criminal Justice. Seven UMW ladies are committed to attend Mini-Mission U.
Missionary Becky Ruland and guests provided a fine overview of the status and dangers to the 5,000
foreign J-1 Student Workers who arrive on the Grand Strand every summer to work and ex-
perience America. She talked about the dangers, the isolation, and the opportunities for us to be-
come involved in helping these “young future leaders” see the positive side of America, experience
the Love of Christ in action, and return to their homes after having had a “positive” experience. Vol-
unteers are needed for a variety of tasks, forms are available on the UMW Bulletin Board, and you
are encouraged to contact Susan Douglas for more information and details.
Upcoming Dates:
Sun, Feb 11th Reception for Special Valentines, hosted by Susanna Wesley Circle
Sat, Feb 17th Grand Strand Cluster Meeting hosted by Trinity UMW
Tues, Feb 20th (Feb 27th Weather Delay Date) SC UMW Legislative Day - Epworth

May 17 – 20 United Methodist Assembly in Columbus, Five Trinity ladies have already
committed to attend this quadrennial meeting. If you are interested in joining us,
please contact Trish Lucas, Debbie Snow, or Nancy Banaian and see materials posted on the
UMW Bulletin Board.

Thank You, Trinity!
The members of the Trinity Crafters wish to thank the
many congregational members who contributed to our
successful Fall and Holiday Craft Shows through
donations of materials, skills, crafts, baked goods, and
most importantly, through their purchasing support.

the years since, our fellowship group has grown in skill,
imagination, and numbers, and we have now contributed
more than $33,000 to local missions and more than
$19,000 to Trinity for our Building Fund and ASAP.
In 2017, we distributed $3,300 to the following programs:

church and community. Any ladies are welcome to drop in
to join us at any time. You do not have to be a
professional to participate.

FEBRUARY MUSIC “My Funny Valentine” is the
theme for this year’s
Valentine’s Day event. On
Saturday, February 10th from
6:00 pm to 8:30 pm we are
going to enjoy one of the
most memorable events ever
at Trinity United Methodist Church. There will be a
full meal starting at 6 pm; this will be followed by
singing and dancing along with an array of fun-filled
games.
We are requesting that you bring in for display the
most hilarious photograph that you have of you or your
spouse for the funniest Valentine ever contest.
All of those gathered will vote by applause, and the
winner will receive a wonderful prize. We will also
have a newlywed and “a not so” newlywed game. This
all will be topped off by a Crazy Legs’ recognition
contest with only male contestants.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Daniel
family and maybe a few surprise guests. Last year’s
Valentine’s Day function was phenomenal; this one is
going to be even better. The donation for the meal and
all of the evening’s events is just $10 per individual
and $15 per couple.
Tickets will be available in the church office starting
February 1st. For more information, please contact
Reverend Ed at 843-421-7257 or the church office at
843-272-5236.

February 25th Concert Series
“I love music” is the call of the evening as the Trinity
chancel choir performs songs that you probably won't hear
on Sunday mornings.
I doubt that anybody can deny the quality of music that we
are blessed with each Sunday from a choir, orchestra, and
bell choir. Their addition to the service is so spiritually
uplifting. However, you have not heard the full extent of
their talents and gifts until you catch one of their evening
performances. You will be blessed with a variety of music
performed by multi-talented vocalists and instrumentalists.
Every one of these types of performances by our chancel
choir has been spectacular. I can assure you that on this
night you will be overwhelmingly entertained and blessed.
Please mark your calendars for this free night out and
bring your friends and family.
For more information, please contact Reverend Ed at
843-421-7257 or the church office at 843 272-5236.
