-Creating a Logo using Photoshop

Page 2: TS + O&C

PlanI created this plan so that when I am using

Photoshop to create the final logo, I have an idea of what the final product is going to look like and not spend my time doing trials.

I used pink because according to our survey, most of our audience prefers a girly, princess feel logo that can reflect on the aim of this project.

I chose to use a girl’s face/head for the main subject of this logo because I thought that our aim of this project is to help teenage girls gain confidence so I thought it would be appropriate to put the main theme of the project as the logo so that people can recognize and know what this project is once they see the logo.

Starting with a plain CanvasI chose to use 11.111 inches by 11.111 inches because I wanted a square based logo. I also wanted something not too big so that it wouldn’t be blurry when we use it as the size of a logo.

I chose white as the background color because I wanted something that was girly yet classic at the same time so it wouldn’t be boring to look at after time.

Technical skills:

I started a new project and named it “Be Yourself.psd”. I saved it as a .psd file because if I wanted to make any changes in the future, I could edit it again with different layers on Photoshop.

Creating the main subject of the Logo

I chose to use the side view of the face because it shows unique structure and the curves of a human face whereas the front view would only be an oval shape.

I chose to do a small and pointy nose and a small mouth because it’s the structure that represents what most people thinks a girl would look good with and therefore most people could think that this girl would have confidence and self esteem.

Technical Skills:

I used a brush tool and my track pad to carefully create the structure and curves of a girl’s face. I used a brush tip at size 15 so that I can get into the detail of the side of the face and have a clear edge. I chose to use the brush tool because it’s opaque and bold which is what I want the effect to be.

Adding the pony tail and the hair band

I chose to do a curvy pony tail because it makes it look more girly and gives a teenager feeling to it.

I decided to add the light pink at the edge of the neck because it’s shaped kind of like a collar which can represent a school uniform look. Most teenagers in the world go through phrases of their lives with low self esteem in high school and secondary therefore to relate our audience to this logo, I added the collar looking edge.

I added a light blue dotted hair tie because in order to have a pony tail you have to have a hair tie. I used a light blue color because I wanted a color that will pop and contrast the pink to add more color to make it more lively therefore I chose a color that was also most wanted with the pink according to our survey.

Technical skills:

I also used the brush tool and my track pad to draw out the light pink collar, the hair tie and also the pony tail.

To create the pony tail, I used a bigger brush tool size to draw out the estimated size and then used a small sized eraser tool to carefully erase the sides to create a perfectly curved edge.

Crown – Part 1I found this image of the crown on

Google and I used it because I thought the edge was simple but also elegant at the same time. I also liked how it was symmetrical.

Technical Skills:

I used the Magic wand tool to select the inner part of the image. I then copied and pasted it into the logo document.

I then used “transform” under edit on the information bar to resize the crown into the size I wanted. In order to resize it in scale, you need to press ‘shift’ and resize it using your mouse.

Crown – Part 2Technical Skills:

After resizing the crown, I used the layer style tool to do a color overlay so that I could change the color of the crown. To choose the color, I used the color picker tool and chose the color I wanted.

To rotate the crown to the angle I want so that it can sit on her head, I used ‘free transform’ again and rotated it by putting my mouse near the edge of the black box around the crown.

After rotating it, I also changed the width also by ‘Free transform’ so that it would fit the top back of her head perfectly.

Adding the Project nameI chose to put the project name at the bottom

right hand corner because there was a lot of empty space and also because the white empty space contrasts the best with black colored fonts.

I chose to use the font ‘Jenne Sue’ because one of the criteria for the font of the title according to our survey was the at it had to look like handwriting and ‘Jenne Sue’ is perfect because it’s girly, handwriting type, neat and also very easy to read.

I chose to use size 72 because it was the perfect size to be able to read from a distance but also not too big that it covers the main subject of the logo.Technical Skills:

I used the ‘type tool’ to type the name of the project. I could use the toolbar at the top to change the font, color and also size. After creating the text, I used the top tool on the left hand tool bar which is a simple mouse tool to move the text to put it in the place I want it to be.

Saving the final LogoI chose to save this as a Psd

and Jpeg because I wanted a logo that I can use anytime and can post it to my blog or the app I am creating (jpg) but also a format that I can edit anytime I need to in the future using Photoshop incase there’s an area that I want to change (Psd).

Technical Skills:

To save, you need to go to the top info bar and press ‘file’ and choose ‘save as’. After that you can choose the name and also the format you want to save it as.
