The number of cases involving

the illegal possession of weapons

on campus increased dramatically

last year, prompting the school to

change its policing strategies and

According to a Tidal Tribune analy

sis of the most recent data taken

from the more than 200 public

four year University campuses in

the state between 2002 and 2009,

the 15 weapons referrals recorded

in the 2010 11 academic year is

up from 0 a year earlier, and was

the highest amount in the school’s

history and the third highest of any public University campus since

USCB became a four year institu

tion nine years ago.

The main sites at Clemson Univer

sity and the University of South

Carolina are the only two who have

surpassed that number, recording 42

and 17 weapons infractions in 2005

and 2007 respectively.

Figures from other schools for the

2010 11 academic year are ex

pected to be released by October, an
