2.30pm–4.00pmVictoria Towers – Gold Coast – Aged Care

Victoria Towers is the first project in Australia to combine aged care and seniors living in a high-rise development.

Victoria Towers is a 35-storey building on Australia’s scenic Gold Coast.

The building includes an aged-care facility on the first 4.5 levels.

Remaining levels are for seniors (over 50s) living independently in 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments with stunning views of the Gold Coast Broadwater, ocean and hinterland. The complex contains 220 of these

independent living apartments, which have been purchased by residents under a strata title property system.

Victoria Towers’ aged-care facility is government accredited and meets stringent compliance requirements. Residents requiring care as assessed by the government can access care in the facility and be partly funded by

the Australian Government.

GenBridge Pty Ltd played a key role in the creation of the Victoria Towers community. GenBridge brings together leading health, retirement and aged-care management professionals to ensure the effective delivery

of projects and services. On the Victoria Towers project, GenBridge obtained government funding and building certification to operate the aged-care facility. The company then achieved accreditation of the facility for the maximum term of three years and operated it successfully it under the name of Nobel Life Pty Ltd until it was

sold to Estia Health.

Seniors are now seeking well-located high-rise apartments with nearby care options should they need them in the longer term. Victoria Towers demonstrates a new model for aged care and seniors living into the future.

Admedus Immunotherapies

Admedus Immunotherapies is a clinical stage company founded in 2000 by Professor Ian Frazer. Admedus develops and commercialises patented technology for improving immune responses to nucleic acid vaccines assigned by UniQuest Pty Ltd

and developed at The University of Queensland.

Admedus is majority owned by ASX-listed Admedus Ltd, and has laboratories at the Translational Research Institute at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Our overall objective is to use unique optimisation technology to produce immunotherapies for infectious diseases and cancers. Clinical development currently focuses on therapeutic vaccines for the herpes and human

papilloma viruses.

Our research has shown that using combined technologies can provide protection in a number of infectious diseases and tumour-challenge animal models. Admedus has five granted US patents protecting its codon optimisation nucleic acid

technology, which enhances protein expression in the targeted cell or tissue and results in an improved humoral response. The second component of the technology, also US patented, is to use nucleic acid encoding ubiquitin to enhance degradation

of the same protein, which results in an increased cell mediated response.

Deloitte Australia

At Deloitte, we believe that we’re only as good as the good we do. All the facts and figures that talk to our size and diversity and years of history, as notable and important as they may be, are secondary to the truest measure of Deloitte:

the impact we make in the world.

When people ask, “what’s different about Deloitte?” the answer resides in the many specific examples of where we have helped Deloitte member firm clients, our people, and sections of society, in Australia and around the world, to achieve remarkable goals, solve complex

problems or make meaningful progress. Deeper still, it’s in the beliefs, behaviours and fundamental sense of purpose that underpin all that we do. With over 150 years of hard work and a commitment to making a real difference, our organisation has grown in scale and diversity.

We are now approximately 7,000 people in Australia, across 14 offices, and 245,000 people in 150 countries and territories around the world, providing audit, tax, legal, financial advisory, risk advisory, and consulting services—yet our shared culture remains the same. For us, good isn’t good enough. We aim to be the best at all that we do—to help clients realise their ambitions; to make a positive difference

in society; and to maximise the success of our people. What really defines us is our drive to make an impact that matters in the world.

IntelliHQ

Believing that artificial intelligence (AI) is healthcare’s next major disrupter, Dr Brent Richards has joined with Dr Kelvin Ross to co-found IntelliHQ, a not-for-profit company dedicated to improving health outcomes through AI.

IntelliHQ’s vision is to improve both patient and system outcomes through careful use of available and developing AI-based technologies, including predictive and prescriptive algorithms, image recognition, voice technologies, and medical Internet of

Things. Key to this is bringing together researchers, educators, small and large companies, and investors, to form an ecosystem to support this vision, with clear intentions of rapid product development and commercialisation. A key strategy for our Gold Coast-

based organisation is to develop early-stage products with Gold Coast Health, providing early customer validation. We believe data is the new ‘oil’. Accordingly, IntelliHQ is building a Precision Medicine Data platform from which new products can be developed,

streaming physiology data to better understand and individually manage patients using their data phenotype and AI.

Made4u

Made4U weighted blankets are specially made blankets that mould to your body and create a gentle pressure all over the body like a warm hug. This gentle pressure helps relax the nervous system and encourages the release of a much-needed hormone

called serotonin. Serotonin is the hormone responsible for the feeling of happiness, which also aids in the release of the melatonin hormone that helps and promotes sleep.

Weighted blankets have been a tool used by occupational therapists for some time now, as many therapists and parents have found that they have benefits for children with autism and sensory disorders.

Some of the noted benefits include promoting and improving sleep; improving focus; reducing anxiety; calming ‘meltdowns’; and making transitions easier. Current research also suggests that weighted blankets have demonstrated therapeutic effects for

people experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, insomnia, menopause, restless legs and dementia.

Queensland Health – Aged CareQueensland Government

Queensland has a high standard of aged and community care, highly skilled health professionals, and integrated facilities.

An ageing population is driving demand for aged care and senior-living services. Many older people are choosing to stay living at home, connected to family and community. This requires new types of support services and assistive technologies for

independent living.

The sector benefits from an environment that supports innovation, researchers, start-ups and companies. Queensland’s capabilities include infrastructure, design and planning, aged care and community care services and products. Queensland has a strong medical device and information technology sector, with researchers and companies bringing assistive technologies to support seniors living and aged care. The sector includes private aged care operators, not-for-profit community organisations,

education providers and researchers developing and supplying assistive technologies.

Skin Analytics

Every 2 minutes someone is diagnosed with melanoma, and every 10 minutes someone dies from the disease.

Melanoma is one of the world’s fastest-growing cancers, with its incidence doubling every 10–20 years.

It is also the second-most common cancer for young adults. Importantly, 97% of melanoma is survivable if it is found early enough, but many patients delay seeking treatment, leading to a higher mortality rate.

By combining dermoscopy and artificial intelligence, Skin Analytics can bring dermatologist-level screening into any GP’s office, or even into a patient’s home.

That means we can help to find melanoma earlier and achieve our goal of helping more people survive the disease.

Telehealth Networks

Telehealth Networks was established in 2011 after 10 years of research into online consultations. Today, our team has developed a low-bandwidth video-conference system that is easy to use and incorporates integrated bluetooth devices.

The Telehealth system has been designed by health professionals who understand what’s required for a truly comprehensive telehealth consultation. One of the drawbacks experienced in a standard telehealth consultation is lack of vital data such as

ECG results, blood pressure readings, and the like. Our system overcomes this problem by using integrated bluetooth devices connected to a simple INSTAVITALS app that permits the display of real-time monitoring during each video conference.

The Telehealth system also includes modules for appointments and scheduling, medication management, and messaging and broadcasting, enabling instant communication with patients. HL7 communication makes the system secure and enables

sending of data to patient records in forms that can be integrated with existing patient medical records. All devices are FDA,CE, TGA approved.

Our platform has been implemented in Australia and India, with plans to expand to other countries in the near future.
