Expanding Educational Provision at Tunku Putra School
Advanced Supplementary (AS) and Advanced (A) Level Examinations at Tunku Putra School commencing January 2018
With full support from the Management of the School, Tunku Putra School is giving serious consideration to offering AS and A Level courses commencing in January 2018, based on parental interest and support.
If parents are interested and there is a demand for the School to offer this provision, the School will be pleased to provide continuity of study from Kindergarten through to pre-University level.
As well as allowing specialisation and adapting to students’ strengths and interests, A Levels develop learners’ knowledge skills and understanding in:
Independent thinking; Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations; Handling and evaluating different types of information source; Thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments; Making judgements, recommendations and decisions; Presenting reasoned explanations, understanding implications and communicating them
logically and clearly; Working and communicating in English.
Students who complete their Cambridge A-Levels will receive international recognition from the best Universities worldwide, as the quotations below indicate.
1. ‘We think the Cambridge Curriculum is superb preparation for university.’ 2. ‘Cambridge students develop a deep understanding of subjects and independent
thinking skills.’ 3. ‘Cambridge International A Levels are the ‘gold standard’ qualification. They are
based on rigorous, academic syllabuses that are accessible to students from a wide range of abilities yet have the capacity to stretch our most able.’
4. ‘I think there are tremendous benefits to pursuing the Cambridge curriculum. It is a proven international curriculum for success in higher education and we know that students who pursue it have been successful around the world.’
Why choose Tunku Putra School?
Focus of the Vision, Mission and Philosophy of the School. Continuity and progression for students. An opportunity for National and International streams to study together. A familiar learning environment and a student centred approach to learning and
teaching. Teachers know students’ strengths. Extensive guidance and support will be provided to enable student to make informed
choices for A level and subsequently further study. Students will be well prepared for university academically, and equipped with the
skills, confidence and character to succeed in life.
If you have any questions or would like to meet with me to talk about A levels, please email to [email protected] I look forward to hearing from you.

Year 7 Parents Consultation Meeting
Dear Parents/Carers,
As part of our efforts to further improve the parent
school partnership, we invited parents of Year 7
students to attend a consultation meeting on 28th
February 2017. Parental involvement is an integral
part of the work we do to ensure Tunku Putra School
delivers the best education to our students. We
wanted to create a forum whereby parents are given
the opportunity to voice their opinions on things that
are working well, the things that are working so so
and the things that need to improve in the school. We
have agreed to meet every six weeks so together we
can both celebrate student progress and
achievement and discuss issues pertaining to school
improvement. Below is a selection of comments
made by our current year 7 students for your
perusal.
Year 7 First Impressions of International
Secondary
The first day of school, I was really nervous and excited. But
later in the year, I’m not really nervous at all I like the
teachers. The classes are really fun and I am happy to be in
secondary. The teachers is really good I’m having a good
time in secondary.
I feel excited going to school. All the teachers here are nice
and teach well. I like the new subjects; I like Art and History
the most. I like the new classrooms, but we have to walk a
long way most of the times but I still like them.
My first experience for year 7 was very nerve wrecking. I
didn’t really expect that much homework so it also was very
stressful.
My first impressions were a lot different than I thought. I
was a nervous wreck, I thought the teachers would be a lot
more strict. The teachers are actually very nice, some were
scary but I enjoy being in secondary. Some teachers gave us
tests early in the year, I wasn’t used to that because we
only had tests later in the year when we were in primary.
The seniors are very nice; some of them help me with my
work when I am confused. The past nine weeks were great.
The things we learn in secondary are a lot harder than
primary. If I had to describe secondary in one word I would
say it is different.
Year 7 is different because we have to go to a different
classroom for each lesson. The teachers are more strict
and the lessons are harder. On the first day of secondary I
was feeling excited and nervous at the same time. I didn’t
know what the classes would be like, or what the teachers
would be like. But now that we’ve spent about 8 weeks in
Year 7, secondary doesn’t seem as scary as I thought.
ECAs are really fun. I always look forward to them. ECA is
awesome.
Thank you to the parents who attended the meeting
and kind regards,
Mr Brown – Head of International Secondary.

Report on Utusan Borneo Futsal Tournament
After the completion of the Tun Taib Hall in 2015, futsal has always been the most popular sport in Tunku Putra School. Students train regularly twice a week to improve their futsal skills and have been actively participating in inter-school meets and local competitions. Last weekend on the 26 February 2017, Tunku Putra competed in the 3rd edition of the Utusan Borneo Futsal Tournament, fielding two teams, Tunku Putra 11s and Tunku Putra 12s, playing alongside 15 other teams in the under-12 category.
Both teams played well, with Tunku Putra 11s capturing the attention of the spectators when they displayed the “all out attacking style” game while Tunku Putra 12s adopted a solid defensive strategy. Both teams reached the quarter finals.
Overall it was a very good outing for our players and with the current training structure they will continue to improve.
