PERSISTENCE

Today's readings are about persistence, passionate persistence. Exodus tells of a battle won despite weariness because Moses, with help from Aaron and Hur, held his hands raised. Timothy asks that same

persistence of his community and us. Luke tells of a court case won by a widow, despite the dishonesty of the judge, because she will not leave him alone. The psalm reminds us that God is everywhere, guarding us

from harm day and night, coming and going, now and forever. The readings are about persistence, the relentless, unwavering pursuit of what must not be lost. The readings are about God's passionate persistence

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Although the hours of daylight are rapidly dwindling, many people would say that these October days bring the year's most splendid weather. Americans are riders and joggers, not strollers, and so the pleasures of the season are often lost on us. This is not the case with many Jewish people, who observe an ancient rule in walking to synagogue on the Sabbath. On city streets and suburban sidewalks in many cities, we may notice around sunset the nicely

dressed families walking and chatting on Friday afternoon. After a short prayer at dusk, the families stroll home again for a relaxing and festive meal. They return to synagogue

in the morning, and then spend an afternoon in family leisure until three stars appear in the night sky and

Sabbath ends. Catholics, on the other hand, pile into the car and drive even a short distance to Mass; some even divide the family to participate at different hours. For Jews, the leisurely walk marks a dividing line between hectic life

commitments and a day of abundant joy and enrichment. Before we became an automobile culture, Catholics em-

braced a similar pace, and in most places walked to church. These lovely days of fall invite us to tap into an old and life-giving tradition. If you live within a mile of

your church, walk next week. If you must drive, park at a good distance and walk the rest of the way. Talk about your life, greet strangers, notice the crunch of leaves

under your shoes. You may be surprised at how different Sunday Mass feels when it is framed by leisure!

Chúa Nhật Tuần Thứ 29 Mùa Thường Niên Năm C

Đây là 10 bài học Đức Mẹ Fatima dạy về cầu nguyện bằng Kinh Mân Côi.

1. Cầu nguyện có chủ tâm Khi Đức Mẹ gặp các em, các em có thể nhận biết sức mạnh của lời cầu nguyện của mình, và người ta xin các em chuyển ý nguyện với Bà Đẹp mà các em gặp mỗi tháng vào ngày 13 tại Cova da Iria – từ tháng Năm tới tháng Mười. Ba trẻ trở thành những chiến binh cầu nguyện thực sự, quyết tâm cầu nguyện cho người khác, kể cả các nhu cầu lớn lao của thế giới này. Các em đặc biệt cầu nguyện cho Đức Giáo Hoàng, cho các linh hồn và xin hòa bình cho thế giới. 2. Kinh Mân Côi là cách tốt để suy niệm cuộc đời Đức Kitô Mỗi ngày, một Kitô hữu có thể đọc Kinh Mân Côi và suy niệm về cuộc đời Đức Giêsu Kitô. Kinh Lạy Cha, Kinh Kính Mừng, Kinh Sáng Danh và Lời Nguyện Fatima là nền tảng các mầu nhiệm về Sự Sống và Sự Chết của Đức Giêsu Kitô. Bắt đầu mỗi chục kinh, một mầu nhiệm được chú ý để suy niệm, và chúng ta cùng sống mầu nhiệm của Đức Giêsu Kitô. 3. Bình thường nên đọc Năm Chục Kinh Đức Mẹ yêu cầu các em đọc trọn cả năm chục kinh Mân Côi. Cảm ơn Thánh Gioan Phaolô II, vì chúng ta ngày nay có thêm Năm Sự Sáng. Có thể người ta không đủ kiên nhẫn đọc 15 hoặc 20 chục kinh, nhưng 5 chục kinh là mức trung bình mà đa số chúng ta có thể thực hiện. 4. Kinh Mân Côi là cách tốt để chống chiến tranh Ba trẻ được gặp Đức Mẹ trong thời gian chịu nỗi thống khổ của Thế Chiến I. Mặc dù các em không tiếp xúc với chiến tranh, nhưng các em được động viên cầu xin cho chấm dứt chiến tranh. Các em nhận Chuỗi Mân Côi như một loại vũ khí khác để chấm dứt chiến tranh. 5. Kinh Mân Côi là cách tốt để xin hòa bình Ngoài việc cầu xin cho chiến tranh chấm dứt, Kinh Mân Côi còn là phương cách để đạt được sự bình an riêng mỗi cá nhân. Ba trẻ trở nên những tông đồ đích thực của Kinh Mân Côi và có thể đạt được bình an nội tâm, mặc dù các em phải chịu nhiều đau khổ vì hiểu lầm. 6. Kinh Mân Côi là cách tốt để cứu các linh hồn Lời nguyện Fatima sau Kinh Sáng Danh là lời nguyện cầu cho các linh hồn, lời nguyện này do chính Đức Mẹ dạy các em. Lời cầu xin này thấm vào việc đọc Kinh Mân Côi thường xuyên, người ta trở nên quen cầu xin theo ý nguyện tốt lành: cầu xin Ơn Cứu Độ cho các linh hồn. 7. Kinh Mân Côi là cách đối thoại riêng Kinh Mân Côi có ảnh hưởng sâu sắc tới ba trẻ. Các em lãnh nhận nhiều ơn lành nhờ được gặp Đức Mẹ, nhưng các em cũng cũng được giới thiệu cách sống đời sống cầu nguyện thực sự để giúp các em bước đi trên con đường đối thoại riêng. Việc cầu nguyện thường xuyên làm thay đổi thái độ và ước muốn trong cuộc sống. 8. Kinh Mân Côi là cách tốt để học cầu nguyện Kinh Mân Côi ngắn gọn và dễ cầu nguyện. Đó là cách tốt để học cầu nguyện. Đó cũng là lời cầu nguyện vừa bằng lời nói vừa bằng tâm trí. Sự kết hợp với việc suy niệm các mầu nhiệm là lời nguyện tâm trí. Như vậy, người đọc Kinh Mân Côi đi vào lời cầu nguyện, bắt đầu bang những gì quen thuộc và chuyển tới những gì khó khăn hơn. 9. Kinh Mân Côi là cách tốt để cầu nguyện liên lỉ Kinh Mân Côi có thể trở nên thói quen tốt trong cuộc sống hằng ngày, giúp các Kitô hữu đáp lại lời động viên của Thánh Phaolô về việc cầu nguyện không ngừng. Đức Mẹ không yêu cầu ba trẻ đọc Kinh Mân Côi hằng ngày, nhưng cầu nguyện luôn luôn. 10. Sự lặp đi lặp lại trong Kinh Mân Côi là tặng phẩm Một số người cho rằng sự lặp đi lặp lại trong Kinh Mân Côi gây nhàm chán. Tuy nhiên, sự lặp lại này làm cho người ta suy niệm ý nghĩa của các câu chữ và có thời gian để cầu nguyện. Trong một thế giới tìm cách xâm chiếm cả các ý tưởng riêng, sự lặp lại trong Kinh Mân Côi giúp tạo nên khiên thuẫn để bảo vệ đời sống nội tâm của chúng ta. Điều quan trọng nhất khi đọc Kinh Mân Côi là chúng ta đối xử với Đức Maria là Mẹ Hiền của chính chúng ta.

Năm 1917, ba trẻ mục đồng ở Fatima, Bồ Đào Nha, Lucia, Francisco và Jacinta đã đi vào lịch sử về lòng sung kính dành cho Đức Mẹ vì sứ điệp mà các em có thể trao cho thế giới để cảm ơn Mẹ Thiên Chúa đã ưu tiên thăm viếng các em.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En 1823 se fundó el pueblo de San Rafael de las Quebra-dillas en Puerto Rico. Este pueblo fue dedicado al santo patrón de los pescadores. Rafael, también es el ángel patrono de la salud. Aunque hoy día su fiesta esta combinada con los otros arcángeles el 29 de septiembre, en el viejo calendario este santo fue conmemorado el 24 de octubre. Rafael (Dios salva) se encuentra en el libro de Tobías y según el autor bíblico, este ángel es el ángel de la guarda de Tobías. El mismo Rafael se presenta como uno de los siete ángeles o arcángeles que llevan las oraciones de los justos al trono de Dios y que gozan de la presencia gloriosa del Santísimo (Tobías 12:15). Mi padre siempre dice que hay que pedir una cosa a Dios, la salud. Si tenemos la salud nada nos falta. Es interesan-te que en latín, salud y salvación son la misma palabra, salus.
