Thecommunity surroundingJSKlopperPri-mary is still in shock after a car crashed intothe school last week.
While two children, a baby girl and a three-year-old boy, were seriously injured and aman died after a car crashed through a fenceat the school in Halt Road, Elsies River onFriday morning at about 10:30, there is stillrelief that the accident happened just beforethe first break.
Residents in the area said that if the acci-dent had happened during break many chil-dren could have been injured because the ar-ea where the car came through was a very
popular part of the playground.Capt Pierre Jordaan, communications of-
ficer of Elsies River police, confirmed thatthe children were passengers in the vehicle.He said Johnathan Ede from Leonsdale lostcontrol of his red Honda Prelude and droveat high speed through the back gate of theschool. The car collided into steps next to aclassroom.
The driver died at the scene and a passen-ger survived, but two minors were seriouslyinjured, said Jordaan. He added the chil-dren, apparently the children of the de-ceased, were flung out of the vehicle duringthe accident.
Investigations into the cause of the crash,
that happened at the back of the school whenthe car was apparently travelling down 30thStreet that leads to the schools playground,have revealed that the driver may have suf-fered an epileptic fit.
One of the children, who is a year old, wasairlifted to Red Cross Childrens Hospital ina critical condition, while a three-year-oldwas taken to hospital by ambulance. The oth-er adult occupant in the car also sustainedserious injuries and was hospitalised.
The drivers family told reporters they be-lieve he may have blacked out at the time ofthe crash. While the older child has been re-leased from Tygerberg Hospital the remain-ing toddler is still in a critical condition.

Die nooddienswerkers moes noodge-dwonge kunsmatige asemhaling op die babatoepas. Na verskeie pogings het die babatjieweer asemgehaal. Die ma en seuntjie is ge-stabiliseer en na die Macassar verloskundi-ge eenheid geneem.
Die seuntjie, onbewus van al die drama omdie wreld te betree, is perdfris en tuis by syma, wat moontlik nog van skok herstel.

n Man is in die Tygerberg-hospi-taal dood nadat n geelslang(Cape cobra), ook bruinkapelof koperkapel genoem, hom aansy linkerhand gepik het.
Die 26-jarige man van Kraaifon-tein, wie se naam nie bekend ge-maak kan word nie, is op Sondag 15Januarie in die hospitaal opge-neem.
Sy hand was geswel en hy het te-kens van disorintasie en verward-heid getoon, het Mark van der Hee-ver, adjunkdirekteur: kommunika-sie van die Wes-Kaapse gesond-heidsdepartement, ges.
Volgens onbevestigde gerugtewat TygerBurger ontvang het, was
die man vermoedelik n dwelmge-bruiker.
Omdat hy so deurmekaar was,was dit vir mediese personeel moei-lik om vas te stel wat presies methom gebeur het, het Van der Heeverges.
Hy is eers by die Kraaifontein-ge-sondheidskliniek behandel waarnahy per ambulans na die Tygerberg-hospitaal geneem is. Hy is nie asn slagoffer van n slangbyt opge-neem nie, het Van der Heever ges.

The Royal Crusaders Christmas Band is stillmarching strong after more than 50 years.
On Sunday 29 January they will be march-ing and making their music once again asthey host the first annual Union ChristmasBand competition of the season.
It will be held at the Rosina Paarwater Sta-dium in Bellville South from 10:00, and theywill be competing again six other bands onthe day.
Musical director, Levi Alexander, is call-ing on the community to come and supportthis event because it is also part of their fun-draising taking place for an historical tourthat the band will be undertaking later thisyear.
We all know that this type of band is deep-
ly rooted in Cape tradition that comes on formany generations, with our band starting inApril 1959, making it one of the oldest com-munity organisations in Bellville South.
There are currently approximately 30musicians in the band, aged between 13 to70 years playing a variety of wind and per-cussive instruments in a classical militarywind ensemble style.
The full marching band, marching squadand supporters club members are approxi-mately 120 members strong, and through ourhistory the background and occupation ofthe musicians and members of the band var-ies greatly from past Springbok and provin-cial rugby players, police and traffic officers,industrial and construction workers, officeworkers and executives, pensioners to stu-dents and scholars. In this way it brings the
whole community together.While the main activity of the band takes
place at this time of the year, they are invitedto perform throughout the year at churches,functions and other community events.
Wewereafforded theprivilege toperformat the Artscape Theatre in their Bavariameets Western Cape Expo 2010, and a high-light was when we received Gold in our lastparticipation at the annual South AfricanChristmas Band Board Competition, con-tinued Alexander.
The Band has also made history as the firstChristmas band to perform at a service atThe St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town inDecember, 2010.
Alexander also pointed out that reachingout to youth was a priority in the organisa-tion.

If not, a visit to the Bellville South Youthand Womens Centre will be the biggest en-couragement after their recent showcase atthe Civic Centre.
This gala event which was held during De-cember marked the third time that they havehosted it and also served as a graduation cer-emony for the participants in various cours-es.
Cllr Beverley Cortje-Alcock, the MEC ofSocial Development, was the main speakerat this event as 47 certificates were given toladies who completed their courses in Bead-ing for Business, Crafts for Business, Level1 Sewing for Business, Level 2 Sewing forBusiness, and Level 3 Sewing for Business.
Project manager Joy Warries pointed outthat the Level Three sewing course was forladies who are taught the skill of making ele-gant and bridal wear with accessories.
This was a new addition to the classes of2011, facilitated by Glynis Lambert and therewas much excitement when the participantsmodelled their handiwork.
The highlight of the evening was the brid-al gown by YolandaNayger, whichshowed that thereare lots of people inour communitieswith the right crea-tivity to empowerthemselves, shesaid.
Warries pointedout that these eco-nomic developmentprogrammes havebeen in existencesince late 2007 withmore than 200 la-dies having attend-ed the classes of-fered over the lastfour years.
Some of thegraduates of thecourses now havetheir own business-
es and some stayed on in the programmes asfacilitators.
There are many testimonies of the valuethat the courses have added to the womenslives, in instances where they were abusedit showed them that there are people whowill help them equip them to be independent.
Where there was alcohol and drug abuseit gave many of them a way out of those ad-dictions to achieve a positive potential intheir lives, she said.

A musical education project in Belhar istuning into maths and science this year.
Musiceducare, a project run by WillieMolife, is changing this year to includesome non-musical educational facilities asit becomes MCSM (Music, Computers, Sci-ence and Maths) training.
Molife said existing learners in the musicprogramme have fared very well with par-ents very happy with their progress in mu-sical abilities, but it was time that theybroadened their projects to other fields.
Weare still having learners enrolling forour musical education but we feel that wecan do more for our children who need helpin other aspects of learning, he said.
This year we will be able to offer tuitionin mathematics, physical science and lifescience from Grade 10 to 12, as well as spe-cial computer training projects that will befree for all learners in our projects.
These fun computer courses will be donein school holidays for learners who meetcertain criteria in other studies, saidMolife.

Belvue Primary School in Belhar bringssome cool jazzy sounds to the communityon Friday 3 February.
From 19:00 till late the school will be hos-ting their annual Open-Air Music Festivalon the grounds of the school that will be fea-turing bands like The Rockets, N2, the Bel-har Music Collective and many more localtalent.
Principal Andy Josephus, said that thisevent had been growing in the communityover the years and was a great way to bringmusic to the people.
Many of the parents at our school do nothave the means to get out into the city andother areas where the music is happening sotheyhaveagreat timewhenwepresent thesegroups to them right here in the communi-ty, he said.
Another good thing about this event isthat it gives former learners and teachers atthe school the chance to get together and ha-ve a bit of a reunion.
In this respect we are also appealing tomore ex-learners and staff to support us be-cause we want to get them all together to helpus with future projects at the school.
There are many ways that they can helpwith projects here at the school, and this ye-
ar we are seriously looking at getting ourschool hall built, so we need all the assistan-ce from them to give something back to theschool.

While light meals will be on sale music lo-vers can bring along their own refreshmentsas well along with their camping chairs toenjoy the festival.

It is time to let your talent shine whenRavensmead High hosts their annual car-nival in February.
There will be more than just fun at the fairat this event because Crazyworld Produc-tions will be providing local singers withwhat could be a stepping stone to fame in theentertainment world.
Started last year the Cape Town-basedrecord label and recording studio wanted topromote and develop local talent in the en-tertainment industry.
Over the past year they facilitated openmic nights at various clubs to identify andassist up and coming talent, and already putout their first showcase CD of these talents.
Now theyre offering five more artists thechance to fame at the school carnival on Fri-day 3 February.
Headline artist for the label, Brilynn, whois also a managing member of the company,felt that there was still a lot more young tal-ent to be discovered in the community andthis was their way of starting that process.
This will be part of the schools talentshow at the carnival and we want these fivewinners to be part of our next showcase com-pilation, he said.
The carnival will be running from 2 Feb-ruary until 4 February, and we will also beproviding some top class entertainmentthroughout the carnival.
We will also be at the school on the morn-ing of Friday 27 January in order to assistin collecting entry forms and to answer anyquestions learners may have. Xtreme Wrestling Entertain-ment which opened its doors oneyear ago, is growing fromstrength to strength and if thefirst year is anything to go by,the future is going to be a crack-er.
Brackenfell is the headquartersof the XWE, an area which was pre-viously not exposed to professionalwrestling.
It was a strategic decision tobase ourselves in the northern sub-
urbs. The people want to see properprofessional wrestlers performingon their doorstep.
With the XWE opening its doorstwice a week, together with month-lySaturdaymorningwrestling clin-ics, we aim to craft men of all ages,sizes, backgrounds and cultures in-to future South African wrestlingsuperstars.
Although our initial objective isto seek talent and expose wrestlingto the northern suburbs, the mid-term goal is to host a minimum ofthree monthly shows all over theWestern Cape and eventually
spreading to the entire country,touring on a regular basis.
The XWE aims to teach not onlythe art of professional wrestling butalso to school all trainees on the ac-tual psychology which goes alongwith professional wrestling.
One of our major aims is also totake anyone over the age of 16 andcraft them into dedicated athletesand entertainers, said the ownerJohan Lamprecht.
Several top wrestlers have joinedthe XWE including Blacksmith(Trevor van der Westhuizen), JasonSteele, the Saint (Pastor Gustav Le
Roux), Warlock, Alcatraz, Schoolboy, Hybrid and El Matador toname a few.
The XWE not only works closelywith the community by welcomingthem to join as wrestlers, but alsooccasionally does shows for Kraai-fontein (Christfontein) church.
I feel we have come a long wayin our first year. We ensure allwrestlers will be trained to interna-tional standards and will portray avariety of stylesincluding our ownway, the XWE way.

What we have achieved is down

They knew where I came from,they knew what I had achieved intaking teams like Nathi Lions andThanda Royals to the play-offs.
Its also been a help to have en-joyed such good support at home,our fans have been brilliant, the
players want to perform in front ofthem and we have not lost at homesince I took over, he said.
Ngubane is however aware thatthere is no time to rest on their lau-rels; round two of the league cam-paign is when the pressure reallysets in and teams are tested to thefullest.
