Host: Nord Anglia International School Hong KongEvent: Nord Anglia Under 13 Multi-sport, ChinaDate: March 22nd and 23rd, 2019

  • Welcome to BeijingPrincipal Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the Nord Anglia Global Games China, 2019 Under 13 Multi-Sports here at The British School of Beijing, Shunyi (BSBSY). We regard hosting this event as an honour and a privilege and we are looking forward to giving a warm welcome to all our visitors. Our school has a well-deserved reputation for its warm and welcoming atmosphere and I hope that everyone experiences this and feels part of our school community.

Events such as these provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience the thrill of competition, to be able to challenge themselves individually and as part of a team to do their very best. To savour the joy of winning and also dealing with disappointment, both important parts of life. Of course striving to win is very important but how one plays the game is also important. I am sure we will see not only intense competition but outstanding sportsmanship and all the games played in a spirit of which we can all be proud.

These games also provide the opportunity for us all to meet new people, make new friends perhaps renew old acquaintances. To visit new places and get a flavour of different cities and schools. Therefore it is my pleasure to welcome you all to BSBSY in a spirit of competition, sportsmanship and friendship.

I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our team here at BSBSY and also the hard work of all the schools attending which has gone on and has made this event possible. Without the dedication and commitment of all staff these games or indeed any others would not be possible.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you enjoy these games.

    Best regards

    Richard ThornhillPrincipal

  • It gives me great pleasure to welcome all participants, teachers and supporters to the British School of Beijing, Shunyi for the very first Nord Anglia Global Games China, 2019 U13 Multi-Sport competition.

All staff involved in this event from PE staff to admin support, marketing to catering, have been working very hard to create this event for you. I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work in helping to put together this event, without their support this event simply could not happen.

I would also like to thank the participating schools for attending this event and the teachers and staff for preparing their teams for this event. We know how much work goes into preparing the teams for the different events as well as the administration and logistics behind taking a large group of students to compete in an event.

On behalf of all the staff and competitors my final thanks goes to all the parents and supporters. Without you the children would not be able to participate. We know they are extremely grateful and we are certain you will support them wholeheartedly to generate a positive atmosphere.

Wherever you come from, and whatever sport you excel at, we hope that you do the very best that you can, but more importantly we hope that you return to your schools having enjoyed the opportunity to compete in the Nord Anglia Global Games China U13 Multi-Sport competition.

    Good Luck!

  • IntroductionOFFICIALS

Throughout the games we are using trained referees and officials in all sports from various Chinese Governing Bodies as well as from BSBSY’s own faculty/student body. However, some members of our staff and students (Y10GCSE PE) are also involved in one way or another as officials and assis-tants. They are not all trained PE staff and they will be doing the job to the best of their ability. I apologise in advance for any small issues that may occur and ask you to directly bring up with the Event Coordinator & Games Director, any issues which might happen.

    INSURANCE/MEDICAL

Each participating school is responsible for ensuring their students are covered with comprehen-sive medical and travel insurance if required. A member of the school nursing team will be present throughout the Games (as well as off-site) and the First Aid Station will be known in advance for each day of the competition/games (Nurse’s Office is located in the Reception Area/Entrance to School in room C114). If students require further treatment in a medical facility then this would be chargeable to the student through their own medical insurance. You will need to provide method of payment at the hospital dependent upon the nature of your travel insurance and school policy.

    We recommend: Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics (BJU):24-hour Emergency Hotline: +86 (10) 5927 712024-hour Service Centre: 4008-919191Main Reception Phone: +86 (10) 5927 7010

A local hospital option can be provided if BJU cannot accept your payment method, but note all Chinese hospitals only accept cash and only in some instances foreign credit card payments for medical services will be accepted. Cash is typically the only method of payment at local Chinese hospitals.

It is highly recommended that you contact BJU to confirm your participants/ coaches have acceptable insurance coverage before arrival of the games: beijing.ufh.com.cn/

  • AIR QUALITY POLICY

During the games the Air Quality Index (AQI) will be monitored and managers will be informed of changes to the games via a managers meeting if needed. We will be using our school AQI Policy for International Tournaments (above a 250 reading, play must be modified). Please note that students who have known respiratory needs i.e. your asthmatic children need to be aware of changes in the AQI.

    FOOD & DRINK SALES

Parents, spectators and students can buy food and drink throughout the Games from our Parents Association in Chatter Box Café located at the entrance to the Theatre. Parents/Spectators can also purchase lunch in the BSB canteen on all days, for 30RMB per person at the school reception.

    COACHES ROOM

The Coaches Room (BSBSY Board Room-C201a) is on the 2nd floor next to the Gym. This room is for Managers/Coaches only and is off-limits to players/participants. Additional Food & Drinks will be provided, so feel free to take advantage of this room when and if needed.

    WATER BOTTLES

We will be supplying students with a Games water bottle in their welcome pack. There will be water coolers around the sports venues for students to fill their bottles. Tap water is not safe to drink so students should only drink verified bottled water.

    CHANGING

Changing facilities can be accessed in the Gym & Swimming Pool. Please arrive changed in the morning ready to play if possible as the space in these changing rooms is limited for large groups. Within these areas, toilets, & showers are available.

  • PARENT INFORMATION

If you have any travelling parents then, please direct them to: Jessie Xu, [email protected] (Events Manager). Jessie is available to answer any logistical questions in relation to where to go, what is available to do while in Shunyi. She will also be the Lead BSBSY Staff member to discuss any requests parents may have while visiting BSBSY for the games.

    WEBSITE DETAILS

We have a Nord Anglia Global Games China portal on our school website. You can find it by going to www.bsbshunyisport.com. From the site, the U13 Multi-Sports Microsite can be found under Competitions & Events. Bookmark this link for easy access and we encourage you to communicate this link/microsite to your school community for regular updates on and other helpful information for your teams and supporters.

In addition to the school webpage, we will be putting updates on to our Facebook page which can be found here: www.facebook.com/britishschoolbeijing

    VALUABLES/SECURITY

Please remind students that they are responsible for the security of their personal belongings at all times. China is incredible safe but theft no matter how safe it is here, does occur sometimes. Teams will have an assigned area where they can store their things, but again it is suggested not bring any electronic items such as IPADS, mobile phones, if these can be left at home or at the hotel.

The swimming pool has flags at 5 metres from each end and times will be taken manually.

    EVENTS

All schools can enter an A and B swimmer / team in the events. The following events take place Individual events: 100m IM, 25m and 50m: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle. THE START

At the commencement of each race, the referee will blow short whistles followed by one longer blast. Swimmers take their positions on the starting block, by the side of the blocks or in the water. Backstroke swimmers start in the water. The starter will then say “take your marks”, swimmers should remain still until hearing the starting signal and start their race.

The two start rule will apply for this meet:

1 false start, (there will be a long blast of the whistle) swimmers return to the poolside. If a 2nd false start the race continues but the swimmer who caused the false start will be disqualified (at the end of the race).

    P. 10

  • GENERAL STROKE GUIDANCE

There must be a two-hand simultaneous touch for both Breaststroke and Butterfly hands on the wall at the turn and end of the race. Backstroke swimmers must finish their race on their back, and, if not executing a racing tumble backstroke turn, touch the wall on their back before turning to push off on their back. In the 100IM races the swimmer must touch the wall with the correct technique for each stroke.

In the relay events early takeovers will result in disqualification. Outgoing swimmers should wait for the incoming swimmer to touch the wall before commencing their leg of the relay.

All individual swimmers (or 4th leg relay swimmers) stay in the water at the end of their race until told to leave the pool by the referee.

    SWIMMING POOL

There is a spectator deck for parents, and other non-participants, located in front of the EYFS Pool. Participants not taking part in the swimming or waiting for their event can wait in their designated Pool Deck team area. The Amphitheatre can be used by swimmers as a cooling area but need to be monitored by a member of your school to ensure their safety.

Changing rooms will be available for competitors prior to and after the event and these are located by the entrance of the pool. Competitors are advised to arrive at the event with swimsuits on under their clothes. Time will be given time to change for the competition at arrival/warm-ups. There will also be an allocated area to put bags in the Amphitheatre, adjacent to the Pool Entrance.

It would be advisable for competitors to sit and wait for their race in their swimming costume with clothes over the top. In order to ensure a prompt start please ensure all competitors are seated quickly so each swimming event can start on time.
