What is capacity

development? Capacity development is the process through

which individuals, organizations and societies

obtain, strengthen and maintain the capabilities

to set and achieve their own developmentobjectives over time (UNDP)

There are some capacities that exist in every

context. Capacity development uses this

existing base of capacities as its starting point

and then supports national efforts to enhance

and retain them.

development response It is the responsibility of the assessment team to

conduct the assessment and make

recommendations regarding capacitydevelopment responses, including a sense of 

indicators (to monitor progress of a capacity

development response, and each indicator 

needs a baseline and target) and costing. The stakeholder/sponsor group will determine

prioritization.
