Collector & District Magistrate & Team in collaboration with NGOs, Donors and people of Patan District.

This is the largest ever effort of any district to have Empowered PwDs in Gujarat

A new methodology was adopted to reach and help the most vulnerable– the “Persons with Disabilities”

Different Schemes provided by the State/Central Governments were made available to them through this method with out any hurdles.

There is no platform for the Persons with Disabilities of Patan District, which has large remote rural areas, socially and economically backward persons to provide help through those schemes. Even NGOs struggle to reach them.

The Collector of Patan felt the need to work in this direction and formed 7 clusters at different parts of the district where the Persons with Disabilities would receive primary information.

At the camps, diagnosis of disabilities was arranged.

Arrangement was made to analyse the data collected at the camps.

This had resulted in bringing NGOs & Government Departments to work together for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities .

All beneficiaries eligible under the Government schemes received assistance under the same.

Those not eligible also received aids and appliances through the NGOs, and donors.

The whole idea and the project was explained to all stakeholders and decided to find out and identify the Persons with Disabilities from every corner of district.

Collector analyzed and it was decided to organize seven (7) different camps for the convenience of physically handicapped persons.

Officials like Sarpanch, Elected Representative, Anganwadi workers, Health Workers, Gram Sevak, Patwaris up to village level collected the information and segregated accordingly..

Transportation and meal was arranged for

PwDs with help of Sarpanch, village level

officials and NGOs.

Computerized registration system was used

with multiple counters to minimize the stay of

the PwDs at the camp site.

Prosthetics specialist and audiologist specialist helped and tested the persons on site.

Total 21,513 persons attended the camp from the following Talukas.

(6)Hearing Aids. Hearing aids play an

important role for school children who could then peruse the school programmes.

Because of the Database that created for the

PwDs the below mentioned benefits were easily

extended in subsequent years.

732 physically challenged persons were provided

life support devices worth Rs.16.24 lacs.

Assistance of Rs. 74.09 lacs given to 1915

beneficiaries under Sant Sur Das Yojna.

Scholarship worth Rs.14.34 lacs paid to 1135

PwDs students.

Housing assistance of Rs. 1.30 lacs paid to 6

PwD- widows.

Collector, Patan has shown his successful leadership by conceiving this project suo-moto and he motivated representatives of people and whole district administrative officials to work together for good cause along with NGO. It is all those who worked under his leadership made this project successful.

This project is intuitive and also sustainable. This type of noble effort always attracts the real

social NGOs to come forward to help the disabled.

This project was also replicated in Jamnagar District of Gujarat.

Because of an available data base for PwDs, all government's schemes are easily extended to them in minimal time limit.

This data base was shared with other NGOs/Govt. Department also to extend the benefit to these people.
