What are Interactive Features?

Interactive Features are used to give control to the user on devices such as Smartphones and PC, using interactive features helps you navigate the page or book you’re reading, features such as flipping a page with a button, fast forwarding on a video or using an audio option instead of reading a newspaper.

Features such as zooming in and out with your finger using these gestures:

This feature is really useful for when reading a book, newsletter/paper, comics etc, this is because if you are reading a big newspaper that has been written in a lot of details, the writing might be small therefore you would need to zoom in or zoom out if you zoomed in too much.

Dragging the little ball on phone while watching a movie at the bottom right hand side, you are telling the device to increase/decrease the volume, this gives you control over it to suit your needs.

Page 3: Unit 5 task 2

ExampleVolume Control - Drag to increase/decrease the volume to suit your hearing

Pressing on this icon will tell the device to exit out of the video.

Pressing this icon will shrink/expand the size of which you view the video.

Dragging this little white ball around will allow you to skip to a specific time within the video.

Pressing and holding this icon will restart the video

Pressing this button will stop the video

Pressing this icon will skip all the way to the end o the video or fast forward it, tap it a few time to adjust the speed of the fast forwarding

Page 4: Unit 5 task 2

Advantages Disadvantages

Gives the user control

Makes it available to suit everybody's style

There are a lot of features everywhere you go, Facebook, Watching a movie on PC/Smartphone etc

● Not all devices and websites have the same features like on another

Page 5: Unit 5 task 2

What is Audio?

Audio is sound, we use this to help us get a better understanding of things such a newspaper, some people don’t like reading, some don’t understand as much as they do when listening, so making a feature like a robot AI reading a newspaper to you like ‘The Guardian Digital’ is a great feature it helps everyone and there’s no harm in using it.

Especially if you are blind, using this feature will help you massively, however not everyone wants and annoying robot voice pronouncing words, syllable by syllable, it gets annoying therefore, some people just like to sit there reading their newspaper in peace and quiet

Page 6: Unit 5 task 2

This is the play/pause button to stop the robot reading.

Here is the icon for enabling auto-read, to access this just hover your cursor over it and it should come up

Example

Page 7: Unit 5 task 2

Some people can get a better understanding of listening rather than reading themselves

You can access it really easily all you need is internet and a browser to search it on

● The robot voice could get really annoying● Useless feature if you don’t have any

speakers or headphones or even deaf● People can get a better understanding by

reading rather than listening syllable by syllable from the Ai

● It can take way too long to load or it may buffer while reading

Advantages

Disadvantages

What is ‘Video’?A Video is a set of moving images that allow the user to visually see animations but in reality is just moving pictures.

Videos are used for many different things, for example, using a video on a newspaper is usually just to show more evidence, on a comic maybe like a little gif to show more visuals of what’s happening and giving you more understanding or maybe just a video from youtube.

Here you can see the man showing what position to get yourself in for the workout.

You can checkout more videos on ‘Men’s Health’ website.

This tells you how many time you have to do it

Page 9: Unit 5 task 2

Example!

There are websites like The Guardian where you get free videos that relate to the story being written

This is ‘The Guardian’ here you can find a lot of information that has happened recently in accidents or something involving the president.

Before playing the video, there will be a box that will tell a short tiny little summary about what the video is about,

This is the Play/Pause button, pressing this before you’ve started the video will start the actual video, pressing it again will pause the video which is similar to the phone and other devices

Pressing this will switch to another video still relating to the video, possibly the second part of the video before

Page 10: Unit 5 task 2

Advantages Disadvantages

By viewing a video you can gain a lot more information rather than just reading.

No one wants to read a wall of text, so by using a video is so much more simple and easier

● Need internet● Poor quality or Sound quality● Poor Explanation in the video

Graphics

Graphics is how you see the visual images produced by the PC linked to the screen.

Graphics are also used in Magazines as fonts, if there are special parts in the story that have a big impact of what happened it may or may not be in a different color than the normal one.

Graphics are also the layout, design/style of things

Which will then give them a unique Identity compared to the other ones

This is a different font compared to the other around the page, it’s got a different color and style and the it’s laid out differently

You can also see that the whole layout of the page is way different from the one below it, it has a darker background with nothing else around it, it has a button you can press to go to the next page

Page 12: Unit 5 task 2

Example

This is a different font compared to the other around the page, it’s got a different color and style and the it’s laid out differently

You can also see that the whole layout of the page is way different from the one below it, it has a darker background with nothing else around it, it has a button you can press to go to the next page

Page 13: Unit 5 task 2

Advantages DisadvantagesDifferent colors can indicate different

incidents or parts of the story, therefore RED would be something bad, bloody, violent and murderous

Graphics gives a page identity, with the amount of different fonts, colors, styles and designs.

● Some people may be colorblind ● You may not be able to read some

fonts● Sometimes graphics have

relevance with the story● Some digital text may have way too

many colors so people get confused of what

Page 14: Unit 5 task 2

LinksLinks are used to take you to another source that may have more information linking to the page you just read.

Some links take you to a video to show you proof of what they’re saying is right, and others may have no relevance to the story at all and may just be a distraction.

Links are normally used in a description of a video, in a newspaper and many more, links are mostly used to get to a specific website faster than typing it on google

A good example to get to a website faster than typing it and searching for it, is to save it to bookmarks, once you save at least 1 website to your bookmarks, the bookmarks bar will appear just below your searching bar

Page 15: Unit 5 task 2

Example

If you press one of these tabs, they will take you to a different source, for example if you click the games tab, it would take you to another page telling and showing all about the EA games.

Which ones are coming out, delayed, reworking and fixing

This is another link, pressing that link will take you to buying fifa 17, either for PC, PS4 or XBOX

Again, pressing one of these 3 images will take you to their own specific game page, such as pressing on simcity it will take you to another source about it, without you having to typing it in the search bar or something

Page 16: Unit 5 task 2

Advantages Disadvantages

Saves you from wasting you time trying to find what you’re looking for

100% accurate links, not something irrelevant

Images can be used as links as well not just texts

● Sometimes links won’t work● Finding the link you actually need

could be quite hard● Some links may not load properly

so it will only display half of the information

Page 17: Unit 5 task 2

Navigation Tools

Navigation Tools are used to help us navigate/travel around a page a lot easier, using a scrolling wheel while in a page that has multiple sections and you want to get there, just scroll downwards/upwards to pinpoint the exact location you are going for.

Using a GPS helps us alot to get to a specific location, especially if you don’t know where you are going.

GPSs have been around for a long time now, and thanks to them we can safely travel from one location to another.

Page 18: Unit 5 task 2

ExampleA GPS is a great example of a Navigation tool, it tells what direction to take, shows what road you’re on, shows the location etc.

GPS.Gov is a great website to help you understand whwat a GPS does, how it works, how to use it and many more

Links to the answer you might have

Page 19: Unit 5 task 2

Advantages Disadvantages

Helps us travel faster, whether it would be a browser page or driving in the mountains or your friends house

Navigation Tools keep getting better and better therefore increasing the amount of features available and makes it a lot more easier

● Tools may not work● Tools many not load in● Maybe it requires some complex

stuff to do to set it up and running properly example a GPS

All of these elements work together very well, we used each and every single digital publications, maybe some may not have as much graphical items or writing, some may not have a video or even links but there will always be more than one of them because without them, life is so much harder, especially on the internet or writing an article, playing a videogame or
