UNIT I Learning drawing for 2d animation:Drawing simple recognizable shapes like bottle, pen, pencil, table, chair, tree, building, vehicles, people, drapery with lines alone from different angles. Creating forms from several angles using light and shade. Creating backgrounds of landscapes, seascapes, forests, cityscapes and interiors.

UNIT II An introduction to methods for creating analog animation through experimentation with imagery, concepts and materials:Turning objects using tracing paper on a single axis line for flip book. Creating a suitable background and combining the two. Stick figure movement of animals and human forms with tracing paper with a moving background. Creating a narration. Changing expressions of human faces, animal and bird heads.

UNIT III Emphasis on basic timing principles and hands-on techniques:Stick figure drawings of walking, running, jumping, and flying animals, birds and human figures.Road, rail and air borne vehicles on the move with suitable backgrounds showing various speeds.

UNIT IV Methods for creating animation blending traditional techniques with contemporary technologies:Drawing narratives on tracing paper for scanning touching up and cleaning in computer. Coloring for animation. Creating background on paper for digitizing and combining with narrative. Drawing and coloring with Pen-tablet.

Script Writing and Storyboard DesigningTo familiarize students with writing scripts and storyboard with camera angles and lighting. Workshop exploring concept and structure of long and short form animated films through practical writing exercises.

UNIT I

Pencil Sketch, Light & Shadow Practice: Pencil sketching of common objects like pencils, pens, glass and stainless steel tumblers, cups and saucers, bottles and simple drapery.

UNIT II Geometrical Shapes and forms: Creating shaded forms using basic geometrical forms – square into cube, triangle into pyramid and cone, circle and ellipse into sphere. Combining forms to create recognizable forms.

UNIT III Texture and Pattern: Making textures using diagonal lines, cross hatching, stippling, broken vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. Creating patterns using basic geometrical shapes and forms. Free flowing lines creating patterns. Shading patterns to create 3D illusion.

UNIT IV Composition with Light and Shadow: Combining multiple common objects with background in light and shade. Cup and saucer with a flask etc.

UNIT V Perspective Drawing: One point, two point and three point perspective drawings of table, chair, boxes, bottles, interior and exterior of room/s, streets with buildings/vehicles/people. Shopping malls in eye level, above and below eye level all in one drawing.
