Rev. Robin’s Reflections

People often ask me, “What does Unity believe about _________.” Unity has no dogmatic statement of faith with which it asks its followers to agree. Rather, we invite people to accept what they find helpful in lifting their consciousness and living a fuller life. We emphasize teaching people how to think, rather than what to think. That doesn’t mean we don’t take a position on certain issues and concerns. Every time I read Unity Worldwide Ministries’ Statement of Social Action Position, I hear a hearty “yes!” in my heart and soul. These words are so very near and dear to my heart and make me proud to be a part of this movement. In case you have not read it before, here it is in its entirety:

Unity’s Statement of Social Action Position

Webster defines the word “unity” as “the state of forming a complete and pleasing whole....” At this time in the evolution of the planet and the lives of human beings upon it, the task of “forming a complete and pleasing whole” is the imperative for positive evolution and harmonious existence for all. This perspective has seemingly been lost—our wholeness, our one-ness, our same-ness as a human race.

We must now remember more than ever, that we have much more in com-mon than that which divides us. The Unity movement stands for and will tirelessly work for harmony so all people may know the freedom of peace-ful expression; so they may know their own inner worth and essential con-tribution to the whole of life. Where there are divisions of opinions, beliefs and perspectives, Unity em-braces curiosity, exploration and expanded awareness of the gifts of diver-sity. Where there is fear of “the other,” Unity stands for inclusivity and peace-ful acceptance of another’s right to create the life of his or her choosing. Where there is oppression and hatred, we stand for justice and understand-ing, and for extending compassion, kindness and forgiveness to restore balance. Where there is discrimination, we stand for inclusivity and equality. We pledge to be an advocate for the wellbeing, respect and civil freedom of every human being.

Any proposal or action that seeks to discriminate against individuals or classes of individuals based on prejudiced, stereotypic profiles of national origin, class, creed, race, ethnicity, physical ability, sexual orientation or gender identity is in opposition to the core beliefs and values established by our founders. We choose Unity. In harmony with the divine Spirit we stand, so we may live in a spiritually awakened world that is continually evolving. This is our prayer and our decree. Through our actions, we let it be. #ChooseUnity What do you think? As for me...I choose Unity!

The Dawn Treader in Lincoln City

October 14 after service

Wear your work clothes and come prepared to per-form acts of service for our environment, building, and community. Those who are ready, willing, and able will head out after our Sunday service to clean up the one-mile stretch of Highway 101 we have adopted. For those who are unable to brave the ele-ments and wrangle trash, but still wish to be of ser-vice, there will be a “to-do” list of things that can be done in-doors. The more participants we have involved, the quicker and more fun it is. We will soup and bread for lunch when we are finished.

Ride-Sharing Board member Pam Bate has stepped up to be “ride coordina-tor,” and will be the central per-son responsible for responding to ride inquiries. If you need a

ride or are willing to provide a ride to Unity, please call or text Pam at 541-404-7007. Thanks Pam!

Financial Update When the Board reviewed income and expenses for the first half of 2018, it was noted that there was a con-tinued trend for our monthly expenses to exceed income. This information was shared in your bulletin one Sunday. At that time we asked for your continued prayer and support in realizing the abundance that is all around us. We want to emphasize that not all contributions are monetary! We so very greatly value your time, prayers, commitment to being present, volunteering (we especially love treats), and all the myriad of ways everyone so generously contributes to the creation of our community! Our core values of transparency and integrity guide us to always share pertinent financial and other infor-mation with our church family. It is important that you have up to date information regarding various as-pects of Unity of Bandon’s functioning. Our magnificent Treasurer, Pam Bate, will be sharing our financial position as of the end of the 3rd quarter on Sunday, October 14.

If you ever have any questions whatsoever, please ask a Board member or Reverend Robin.

The Traveler

-by Unity minister, James Dillet Freeman

She has put on invisibility. Dear Lord, I cannot see— But this I know, although the road ascends And passes from my sight, That there will be no night; That You will take her gently by the hand And lead her on Along the road of life that never ends, And she will find it is not death but dawn. I do not doubt that You are there as here, And You will hold her dear. Our life did not begin with birth, It is not of the earth; And this that we call death, it is no more Than the opening and closing of a door— And in Your house how many rooms must be Beyond this one where we rest momently. Dear Lord, I thank You for the faith that frees, The love that knows it cannot lose its own; The love that, looking through the shadows, sees That You and he and I are ever one!
