UPDATE HMCS ORIOLE VISIT TO SCHOONER COVE 1 APRIL 2014 Due to a minor change in their schedule and possible wind conditions, HMCS ORIOLE may not arrive at the Schooner Cove docks until closer to 1600hr.In response to this adjustment, the Skipper has determined that the ship will be open for public tours until 2100hr. HMCS ORIOLE will depart Schooner Cove approximately 0800hr Wednesday 2 April. Please note that onboard tours will open to the public. Dinner reservations are optional and are NOT required to attend the presentation by her Skipper at 1900hr, Fairwinds Clubhouse. HMCS ORIOLE The oldest vessel and the longest serving commissioned ship in the Canadian Navy, HMCS ORIOLE, will be visiting Schooner Cove Marina docks on Tuesday April 1, 2014. She is scheduled to arrive at the dock at approximately 3pm. Everyone is invited to come down to the dock to welcome her, and to have an on-board tour. Built in Halifax in 1921, she has sailed to numerous exotic locations, including the South Pacific and Australia, competed very successfully in many races, including Swiftsure, Vic-Maui which she won in '78 and placed second in '90, sailed beside the famous BLUENOSE 11 here in the Strait of Georgia, and this past summer, attended the Americas Cup races in San Francisco.

Due to a minor change in their schedule and possible wind conditions, HMCS ORIOLE may not arrive at the Schooner Cove docks until closer to 1600hr. �In response to this adjustment, the Skipper has determined that the ship will be open for public tours until 2100hr.

Based at CFB Esquimalt, HMCS ORIOLE currently serves as a training vessel for junior officers, helping sailors develop an appreciation of teamwork, and having them experience first hand, the power of the wind and sea. She is a beautiful ambassador for the Navy and for Canada. Hosted by Schooner Cove Yacht Club and Fairwinds Development, her skipper, Lt. Cmdr Jeffery Kibble will make an audio-video presentation at 7pm at Fairwinds Golf Clubhouse, 3730 Fairwinds Drive the evening of April 1st. The presentation will be open to the public, no charge. A "build-a-burger" dinner (hamburger, chicken burger or veggie burger) with salads and dessert for $15.00 plus tax will be available at 6pm. Reservations must be made at (250) 468-9915 Ext 1.
