Mass Intentions
My dear parish family,
As many of you know, two years ago, under the leadership of
Father John Silva, our parish began a campaign to raise funds to cover
several needs, as well as to plan ahead for future growth. The architectur-
al firm of Plunkett-Raysich was hired to guide us in our planning. A
committee was formed, with Tom Bier as the chairperson. Parishioners
participated in listening sessions and provided input through a survey and
interviews. The input that was received helped determine our greatest
needs. A master plan was created for maintenance and upkeep of our
facilities. Plans were drawn up for the addition of a church gathering hall,
and a connecting corridor between our two school buildings.
At this time, the diocese also began conducting its "Priests for Our Future" campaign to
create an endowment fund to support the future education of seminarians. Each parish in the dio-
cese was provided with a goal, and asked to reach out to their parishioners in an attempt to collect
pledges of support. IHM's goal was $595,000. In addition, we were still responsible for the dioc-
esan Annual Catholic Appeal and our annual diocesan parish assessment.
Rather than asking parishioners several times to give to several different appeals, it was
decided to conduct a combined campaign that rolled all of the above needs into one single request.
The Steier Group was hired to guide us through campaign, which is known as "FORWARD IN
FAITH." The campaign would take place in two phases of three years each. Phase 1 included the
following:
A. Celebration Goal: Priests for our Future, the 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal, 2015
diocesan assessment, the school connector, and the maintenance fund
B. Challenge Goal: 50% of the cost of a new parish hall
As we begin our third year, I would like to thank those of you who have made a commit-
ment to this campaign and are fulfilling your pledges of support. I am proud to say we have col-
lected over $1,000,000. Thanks to your generosity, we are keeping up with our payments to
the diocese, we have been able to accomplish some much-needed maintenance needs, and we not
only have connected the two school buildings, but, thanks to a generous benefactor, we were able
to add additional classroom space.
What's next? I have enlisted the help of a
newly established Forward in Faith Committee,
whose main priority is making sure clear and regu-
lar communication about our progress and future of
the campaign is being passed on to you, the parish-
ioner. Additionally, we are assessing our progress,
looking at any upcoming maintenance needs, and
studying goals for Phase 2 of the campaign: the
construction of a new parish hall.
I would like to thank Tom Bier for continuing to lead our Forward in Faith Committee,
and for providing an update at this weekend's Holy Masses. I would also like to thank Joan Ogden
and Karen Duffey for their hard work in following up on campaign pledges and contributions.
Lastly, thank you to all those who have served on the committees or volunteered in any way to
help our Forward in Faith campaign run smoothly.
God bless,
From the
Pastor’s Desk

Annual Catholic Appeal Parishioners throughout the
Diocese received a mailing
from Bishop Morlino. The
Bishop is asking for a
pledge to the Annual Cath-
olic Appeal to support the
ministries of the Diocese of
Madison. Please prayerful-
ly consider making a
pledge payable over 5-months to the appeal. Your gift
will help enable the diocese to reach its goal and provide
grant opportunities for Catholic schools, religious educa-
tion programs, and assisting distressed parishes in need.
Thank you for your continuing support of our parish, the
Diocese and the work of the Church throughout the
world.
May we come together in our work of enabling those
throughout our diocese to know, to love, and to serve the
Lord through generously giving to this year’s Annual
Catholic Appeal, and may we all join together and pro-
claim, “As for me and my household we will serve the
Lord.”

***Ash Wednesday is March 1*** Lent 2017 begins with the observance of
Ash Wednesday. The Catholic Church
asks each member to preserve the peni-
tential character and purpose of Lent by
attending to the following fast and absti-
nence regulations.
Lent fasting and abstinence rules for Catholic
*Catholics who have celebrated their 14th
birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash
Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent, including Good
Friday.
*Catholics who have celebrated their 18th
birthday and are under 59 years of age are bound to fast
on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
*Ash Wednesday and Good Friday Fasts: only
one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless
meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken
according to each one’s needs, but together they should
not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not
permitted. When health or ability to work would be se-
riously affected, the law does not oblige.
*Catholics should not lightly excuse them-
selves from these prescribed minimal penitential prac-
tices.
IHM LENT SCHEDULE Last Year’s Palms
We will be collecting old palms from last year.
Please bring them to church before Palm Sunday
and place them in the baskets in the church en-
trances. The old palms will be burned in our
Easter Vigil fire. This is the proper way to dis-
pose of them.
"Do not
worry…
Your heavenly
Father knows
what you need."
Lenten Almsgiving- Operation Rice Bowl
As a parish community, we can help
our brothers and sisters in need through
Operation Rice Bowl, a ministry of
Catholic Relief Services. 75 percent of
your gift supports CRS’ programs
around the world.
Some examples include:
-Agriculture projects help farmers improve harvests
-Water and sanitation projects bring clean water to
communities
-Microfinance projects support small businesses
-Mother and child health projects offer health and nu-
trition services
-Education projects provide resources and training
25 percent of your donations go to hunger and poverty
alleviation efforts in your own community.
You are invited to take a Rice Bowl home with you from
the basket in the main church entrance. Keep it in a visi-
ble place in your home. Each time you make a sacrifice
or have spare change, think of those who are needy and
put the money into your Rice Bowl. Fill the bowl during
Lent and then bring it back to church with you on Palm
Sunday and place it in the basket.
Word Among Us
Daily meditation books are available on the bulletin board
ledge for free. Please feel free to take one.

Catholics at the Capitol
March 28, 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Monona Terrace Com-
munity and Convention Center, Madison. Every two
years, the WCC joins several Catholic organizations in
hosting Catholics at the Capitol. This day of formation
and advocacy is designed to engage Catholics who are
interested in learning more about how to be faithful citi-
zens. Colleen Stratton – a speaker, writer, wife, mother,
and survivor of human trafficking – will provide the key-
note address. As her biography states, “After years of
walking about in darkness, shackled in chains of addic-
tion, shame and fear, she experienced a radical transfor-
mation as a result of God’s amazing gift of grace. Colleen
has a heart for proclaiming freedom to the captives and
hope to the hopeless.” The day also features workshops
on a range of issues, offering the Church’s position on
important statewide and national concerns and includes
tips for engaging policy makers. Take advantage of this
unique opportunity to pray with fellow Catholics, learn
about the issues, engage in civil discourse, and visit with
legislators! For more details, www.wisconsincatholic.org

AREA EVENTS
OREMUS "Lord, Teach us to Pray"
"We must face the fact that certain atti-
tudes deriving from the mentality of 'this
present world' can penetrate our lives if
we are not vigilant." (CCC 2727) Prayer is
not merely a psychological activity, it's
not a 'mental void', and it's not just about
words. We can also have the false notion
that "unproductive" prayer is useless.
Prayer is a battle. We must realize that distractions will
come to all of us.
Distractions can come from the enemy; they can also
come from the normal rhythm of our daily lives. It is
helpful to have a piece of paper by our side when praying
so that we can write down things we want to remember
later (ie. tasks that need doing) so that we can let those
distractions go more easily. Lastly, distractions can come
because God is trying to prompt us about something in
our lives that He wants to talk with us about. He wants to
be part of our whole life—even the parts that hurt the
most.
We cannot force our relationship with God. We must try
to realize that we've never been in control of our lives.
The Lord wants us to trust Him that He will take care of
us. Especially He wants us to trust Him with our sins. Our
weaknesses and failures don't make us who we are—God
does. It is difficult for many of us to go to the Sacrament
of Reconciliation, but we must focus on the freedom we
desire. He is waiting to give us all the freedom we want.
We have only to open our hearts to Him.
You are welcome to join us in the IHM church meeting
room this Tuesday, February 28th. For more information
