National Preparedness Month It is the second week of National Preparedness Month! As we position ourselves to "Be Disaster Aware" several considerations should be made regarding your family’s resources and supplies before, during and after a disaster. Building an Emergency Kit is one of the first steps to keep your family prepared. Take action by building an Emergency preparedness kit. The following link will provide you with suggestions on doing so; www.ready.gov/kit. In addition you can access a downloadable checklist at www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/90354.

Page 3: USAG Bavaria Weekly Newsletter 24 Sept. 2014

An emergency supply kit is a collection of basic items that you might need during an emergency. It's good to involve whoever is going to use the kit, including children, in assembling it. Involving children is the first step in helping them know what to do in an emergency. There are many ways children can help. There is an interactive, fun and educational way for them to learn and to be involved in the preparedness process. For more information please visit www.ready.gov/kids/make-a-plan. You may need some additional supplies to meet the need of all family members, such as children, pets and those with special medical requirements, therefore plan accordingly to accommodate their needs. Once you've gathered your supplies, pack the items in easy-to-carry containers, clearly label the containers, and store them where they are easily accessible. Lastly, make sure to check expiration dates on food, water, and batteries throughout the year. If you have questions, please call the Emergency Management Office at 475-8226.

Community Huddle 9 Oct: The next Community Huddle will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 9, at the Rose Barracks Multi Purpose Center bldg. 134. The Community Huddle gives community members a way to ask questions to senior leadership and bring up any issues you think need senior leadership attention. Please private message us on Facebook or e-mail us at [email protected] if you will not be able to attend the huddle, but still have questions you wish to ask. Answers and status pages will be posted to Facebook and the USAG Bavaria website.

Malicious Website A potentially malicious website, http://akoarmymil.com, is posing as the legitimate Army Knowledge Online, https://www.us.army.mil. The site’s purpose appears to be an attempt to lure unsuspecting users further into the site and have them enter personally identifiable information at various subpages. The links on subpages look like various software downloads and device driver updates, but are actually advertisements. Some of the link headings are not even in English, which adds additional suspicion to the site. Users are reminded to remain vigilant whenever visiting unfamiliar websites that require entering personal information or passwords. And always double check the URL before entering any type of PII. Contact the Defensive Cyber Operations Division (DCOD), Regional Cyber Center - Europe (RCC-E) by e-mail [email protected], or by phone DSN 565-6333 or COMM 0611-143-565-6333 if you have any questions.

2CR Soldier ID Cards The USAG Bavaria ID Card section would like to remind 2CR Soldiers requiring any ID card services to include PIN resets, In/Out Processing and DEERS updates should report to bldg. 306 on Rose Barracks.

Travel Warnings The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of traveling to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza due to the complex security environment there and the potential for violence and renewed hostilities. This Travel Warning replaces the Travel Warning issued on July 21, 2014. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Eritrea and strongly recommends U.S. citizens not travel to the country since there is increasing possibility U.S. citizens will not receive the requisite exit permit from Eritrean authorities. This replaces the Travel Warning for Eritrea of November 18, 2013 to remind U.S. citizens of ongoing security concerns in Eritrea.

Demonstration 4 Oct: From noon-4:30 p.m. a demonstration takes place in Nuremberg starting at the Aufsessplatz then marching

through the city to the Federal Office for Immigration on Frankenstrasse. Approximately 3000 people are expected to participate in the demonstration and violence is expected. All U.S. personnel are highly encouraged to avoid downtown Nuremberg during this time.

High-Visibility Vests Now Required Inside Vehicles A new regulation now makes it mandatory to have a high-visibility vest inside vehicles in Germany. The vest can be red, yellow or orange, but must comply with German or European standards. Drivers found without a vest in their vehicles may be fined. The vest must be inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle and not in the trunk. Only one vest per car is required, but one vest for each person is not discouraged. Fines can be as high as 1,300 euros.
