Before you installChoosealocationfortheansweringsystemnearamodulartelephonejackandastandardelectricaloutletnotcontrolledbyawallswitch.

Turn system on/offBeforeproceedingtofeaturesetup,pressON/OFFtoturnthesystemon.Toturnthesystemoff,pressON/OFFagain.Whenthesystemisoff,theON/OFFindicatorlightwillbeoffandthemessagewindowwillbeblank.

NOTES: 1. If you do not want to connect this answering system to a telephone, skip to step 3.

2. Power adapter Input: 120VAC, 60 Hz, 4.5W. Output: 6VAC, 350 mA.

3. If the message window is blank, make sure the power adapter is securely connected to both the answering system and an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. Press ON/OFF to make sure the system is on.

Operation

Listen to, save & delete messages• Thesystemautomaticallysavesallincomingmessagesuntilyoudeletethem.Youcanstore

approximately40minutesofmessages,memosandannouncements(uptoamaximumof99messages).

• Beforeplayingeachmessage,thesystemannouncesthedayandtimethemessagewasreceived.IfStore numberisactivated,thesystemalsoannouncesthecaller’stelephonenumber(seeStore numberunderFeature setuponpage3).Afterplayingthelastmessage,thesystemannounces“End of messages.”

• Messagescannotbedeleteduntiltheyhavebeenreviewed;deletedmessagescannotberetrieved.

Answer callsWhenthesystemanswersacall,thecallerhearstheoutgoingannouncementfollowedbyabeep.Afterthebeep,thesystembeginsrecordingthecaller’smessage.Acallercanleaveamessageofuptothreeminutes.Ifthemessageislongerthanthreeminutes,orifthecallerissilentformorethansevenconsecutiveseconds,orifthesystemrunsoutofmemory,thesystembeepsonceandhangsup.Callerscanskiptheoutgoingannouncementbypressing#.

Call screening/interceptTurnontheansweringsystemandsetthevolumecontrolsoyoucanhearthecaller’smessage.Ifthenumberannouncefeatureison,thecaller’stelephonenumberwillbeannounced.

NOTE: If you listen to messages or change feature settings, the volume will automatically adjust to an audible level. It will be necessary to reset the volume to the lowest setting.

Ifyoudecidetospeakwiththecaller,liftthehandsetofanytelephoneonthesameline.Thesystemstopsrecordingandyoucananswercalls.Ifthesystemdoesnotdisconnectimmediately,pressandreleasethetelephoneswitchhook.

Accept blocked callsWhenthisfeatureisturnedoff,thesystemwillrespondtoblockedcalls(fromcallerswhohavechosentoblocktheirnumbersfromidentification)withthepre-recordedannouncement,“We’re sorry, blocked calls to this number cannot be accepted.”Thesystemthenhangsupwithoutrecordinganyincomingmessages.Whenthisfeatureisturnedon,itwillanswerandrecordmessagesfromanycaller.

Message windowThemessagewindowdisplaysthetotalnumberofmessagesrecorded.Iftherearemorethanninemessagesrecorded,themessagewindowdisplaysthefirstdigit,seconddigitanddashalternatively.IfthemessagewindowdisplaysF,thenthememoryisfullandsomemessagesmustbedeletedbeforenewmessagescanberecorded.

Listen to incoming messagesWhenthesystemplaysincomingmessages,themessagewindowdisplaysthenumberofthemessageplaying.Beforeplayingeachmessage,thesystemannouncesthedayandtimethemessagewasreceived.Iftheclockwasn’tsetwhenthemessagewasrecorded,ortherewasapowerfailureafteritwasset,thesytemwillannounce“Power failure”afterthetimeandday.Afterplayingthelastmessage,thesystemannounces“End of messages.”Ifyouwantthesystemtoansweracallwhenyouareplayingmessage,pressPLAY/STOPtoendmessageplayback.

Play messages—PressPLAY/STOP.Iftherearenewmessages,theywillbeplayed.Iftherearenonewmessages,theoldmessageswillbeplayed.Iftherearenomessagesinmemory,thesystemannounces“No messages.”Play message at half speed—PressandholdMEMO/REPEATwhilethemessageisplaying.Play message twice as fast—PressandholdANNC/SKIPwhilethemessageisplaying.Repeat entire message—PressMEMO/REPEAT.Repeat previous message—PressMEMO/REPEATtwice,continuethisprocesstolistentootherpreviousmessages.Skip to next message—PressANNC/SKIP.Stop message playback—PressPLAY/STOP.

Delete messagesDelete messages—PressandholdDELETE.Thesystemannounces“Messagesdeleted”andpermanentlydeletesallmessages.Themessagewindowdisplays0.Ifthereareunreviewedmessages,thesystemwillplayanerrortoneandwillnotdeleteanymessages.

Delete selected messages—PressDELETEwhilethedesiredmessageisbeingplayed.Thesystemwilldeletethemessageandplaythenextmessage.Ifyouwanttoreplayamessagebeforedeletingit,pressMEMO/REPEAT.Whenthesystemreachestheendofthelastmessage,themessagesnotdeletedarerenumberedandthemessagewindowwillthendisplaythetotalnumberofmessagesremaininginmemory.

Messages are incomplete

• Ifthetollsaverfeatureison,thenumberofringschangesfromfourtotwo,orsixtofour,whentherearenewmessageswaiting.

• Insomecases,thesystemmightbeaffectedbytheringingsystemusedbythelocaltelephonecompany.

• Ifthesystem’smemoryisfullorthesystemisoff,thesystemanswersafter10rings.Ifthesetisinfeaturesetupmodeandacallcomesin,thesetwillnotanswerthecalluntilyoupressPLAY/STOPorthesetuptimeouthaselapsed.

System will not record messages

• Whenthememoryisfull,somesavedmessagesmustbedeletedbeforenewmessagescanberecorded.

ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERATION

System does not respond to remote commands

• Makesureyouarecallingfromatouchtonetelephone.Whendialinganumber,thereshouldbeaudibletones.Ifthereareclicksinstead,thetelephoneisnotatouchtonetelephone.

• Theansweringsystemmaynotdetecttheremoteaccesscodewhiletheannouncementisplaying.Trywaitinguntiltheannouncementisoverbeforeenteringthecode.

• Theremaybenoiseinterferenceonthetelephoneline.Pressthedialbuttonsfirmly.

• Makesuretheremoteaccesscodeisenteredcorrectly.• Youmightbecallingfromatelephonewhichsendstones

tooshortfortheansweringsystemtodetect.• Iftherearemanymessagesrecorded,thesystemmaytake

longerthanusualtorespond.

Power failure recovery • IfthesystemisdisconnectedfromtheACpower,itwillnotoperate.Theannouncementandmessagesareretainedinmemoryduringapowerfailure,butitwillbenecessarytoresettheclock.Seetheinstructionsatthebottomoftheansweringmachine.

• Ifthesystemannounces,“Power failure”afterannouncingthetimeandday,itmaybenecessarytoresettheclock.Seetheinstructionsatthebottomoftheunit.

System takes longer than usual to respond

• Iftherearetoomanymessagesrecorded,thesystemmaytakelongerthanusualtorespond.

Message window is blank • Makesurethepowercordissecurelyconnectedtoboththeansweringsystemandanelectricaloutletnotcontrolledbyawallswitch.

• PressON/OFFtomakesurethesystemison.

Tokeeptheansweringsystemworkingandlookinggood,followtheseguidelines:• Avoidputtingitnearheatingappliancesanddeviceswhichgenerateelectricalnoise(motors,

fluorescentlights,etc.).• DONOTexposeittodirectsunlightormoisture.• Avoiddroppingtheansweringsystemand/orotherroughtreatment.• Cleanwithasoftcloth.• Neveruseastrongcleaningagentorabrasivepowderbecausethiswilldamagethefinish.• Retaintheoriginalpackagingincaseitisnecessarytoshipitatalaterdate.
