I thought the month of July was busy, but August isn’t much better. Between the 3M Cham-pionship Golf Tournament, Stockyard Days and then Branson and the 2012 Central National Meet --- well, I did find time to get the grass cut once or twice. The last issue was a little late (OK, a lot late). I guess so late, that I got phone calls asking me if their membership dues had been cancelled, since they didn’t get their Rumble Sheet. Well, let’s just say there were production problems. This one might encounter the same prob-lems – traveling.

Here are some tidbits to think about. The first Na-tional Tour involves our Regional Group as a sponsor. I have done most of the work for us, just sit-ting at the comput-

er. It starts on September 18 in Moline IL. If you haven’t registered for it you probably are a little late. But you would still be welcome to drive your V-8 at a leisurely pace on beautiful two lane roads. This will be the first issue that some of you will get via email. The rest will still be getting it via the US Postal Service. If you would like to try it via email just let me know. I will be assisting a friend driving their 1937 Ford to the Western Meet in Redmond OR. We leave Roseville on September 8th and arrive in Red-mond on the 11th. On the way back we are driving directly to the first National Tour, so September will continue to be busy for me. It has been announced that the 2013 Great Race will kick off at the Back to the ’50s event in St. Paul on June 21, 2013. Hey, it’s time to start thinking of elections. Well, the national ones, but also the TCRG election. I know there maybe one or two spots open. And if you are thinking of calling me to ask my opinion

Tales from the IceKent’s Korner Our annual picnic meeting was held on August 1st at the Peninsula Point Park in Anoka on the banks of the Rum and Mississippi riv-ers. Our hosts Bruce Nelson and Pat Minor and hostesses Jill Minor and Mary Hyberg prepared burgers and gargantuan sized hot dogs, salads, desserts aplenty, weather that was mild and sunny, and a location that was beautiful! What a great time...maybe we can do this one again next year! To all of you who volunteered your time and / or brought your V-8 Ford to the New Brighton car show on the second weekend of August, THANK YOU! You helped to make our show a huge success despite the threatening weather! Bruce has published all of the num-bers and other information regarding the show elsewhere in this issue. During the week of August 20, the 2012 Central National Meet in Branson, Mis-souri was attended by about one-hundred and forty Early Ford V-8 members from twenty-nine states including twenty-two TCRG members from Minnesota and Wisconsin. We had to en-joy the Meet without our ‘39 since some criti-cal parts of the restoration weren’t completed in time. (My latest target for completion is the V-8 National Tour in September or the St. Paul Winter Carnival, we’ll have to wait and see.) Our upcoming membership meeting will be at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 5th at our regular meeting place, St Michael’s Lutheran Church, 1660 West County Road B, St Paul. If you have some odd-ball car related parts, tools, books, etc., bring them along to the meeting for show and tell. Hope to see you all there.... Kent

OK, blame it on a stressful day... Before I tell my T’bird story, I want to tell you all that I finally moved successfully. We had a great crew and driver. I really did not need the stor-age unit for my collections and antiques as these guys were awesome (Alexander Moving and Stor-age, Richfield). Two days packing, one day moving, two days in transit, one day move in. I’ve never seen more cardboard and packing paper in my life. Since my company paid for it, I’m not complaining! We are finally here, and it feels quite good after living out of a suitcase for 6 months. In fact, unloading the suitcase was the first thing I did, more for therapy than anything else. As I tell my story from my “new” office, I have to admit it feels pretty good. Thank you all for your support, tolerating late newsletters and the like. This was surprisingly dif-ficult after 17 years in Eden Prairie!

on the National Club elections, here’s my take on it. There are a couple of candidates running with a platform of adding street rods to the Club mix. My question is, why? Don’t the street rods already have a Club that they can join? Well, that’s enough for this time…….re-member, keep your stick on the ice. Bruce

New Brighton Recap Suppose there was a car show, and only a few came? Well, at 10 a.m. on Sunday Au-gust 12th, you could have convinced me of that. Luckily, more showed up and a ton of specta-tors came through the gate. After the 2011 show, with the 255 cars, I figured we would return to our average of about 180. But the clouds and the rain to the south caused that to change. Dennis Carney said it was raining when he left home, and if he hadn’t promised to bring the sound system, he would have stayed home. The results are that we had a great show. We had 141 cars come in, 120 registered, and we had 24 swappers. It did try and rain around 11 a.m., but it was barely enough to get the sidewalks wet. Ironically, lack of cars does not mean a failure. We had an exceptional spectator gate. So much so, that we made double what I thought we would. I would like to thank BJ and John Ti-tus for the early bird shift, and Howie Gilbert for dealing with adversity and making it down from Zimmerman. (Seems Howie and a wasp had an argument the day before—the wasp lost of course, but Howie showed the scars) Also, thanks to Paul Oman who drove from Chip-pewa Falls, but walked to the show. He has a wonderful wife in Joanne who drove over with the rollback to get him and the car home. Also, thanks to the Thunderbird Club for doing a great job with laying out the classes and showing the cars and trucks were to park. The date for next year is August 11. Plan now. We will be there!

Anyway, about my car... They picked it up on Thursday. 8.16 during “load day” in a single, covered trailer and said 0 to 14 days it would be delivered to my new garage. Of course, leave the keys with the car. However, since this is a corpo-rate “direct” move, they said I would be the next guy to start it. Love it, all is well! Jan and I made it to the HI Express motel in Chan that evening and behold, I pulled the keys out of my pocket. Oh crap!!! Oh well, I was told the car would not need to be started until it arrived in Michigan... and I had nobody to call except corp relo. What could possibly go wrong??? I think I am good. Slept with one eye open... I did not hear any-thing for 11 days (thinking they stole my Dad’s car). Finally I got a call on day #12 asking about the keys. I told the truth, took accountability, and we laughed about it (I offered to overnight them, provide case of beer, etc.). Thanks for my honesty and ability to con-nect (I think), the car arrived on day #12 on a large 6-car trailer, and they waived the $100 “winch” fee. A sales background comes in handy in these times. As luck would have it, I was at a customer appointment 4 hours away in Petoskey, MI when it arrived. Jan freaked out at the notion of having to drive it into the garage, as she has only driven it twice, both with me as the passenger. Thankfully, the guy who delivered it was great and pulled it into it’s new nest unharmed. I checked it out tonight, and no harm done. Geez, I’m glad that is over. I got my Michi-gan house, got my car, Jan is feeling pretty good, and got my life back (well sort of...). Now, it is about “cardboard elimination”. I just put 24 bags of gar-bage and recyclables out at the street. We are mak-ing progress. I hope you are all well in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We miss it already, but so far Michigan is treating us pretty good. Sure, always some growing pains. You just go with the flow and stay positive.
