The darkest hour of Cricket -Clean-up BCCI!
It is most shocking,disappointing and
distressful to note that is
spot-fixing, betting scandals that
has rocked the Indian Premier
League (IPL), is a rude shock to
the millions of fans in India andaround the World over to whom
cricket is a religion. This awkward
actions put the IPL in a spot andmess and the fans in a greater fix
that has created, leaving plenty
of rooms for shady and murky
dealings with the sole aim ofminting money. The three players
of Rajasthan Royals (RR) team, a
long list of book makers and
associates throughout the
country and the Team Principal ofthe Chennai Super Kings (CSK),
an IPL franchise, Gurunath
Meiyappan were arrested on
alleged charges of illegal betting
and fixing etc., that culminated
doing a lot of criminal activitiesthat have money launderings
with some people living in
Pakistan and Dubai etc. This
whole enterprise is focussed
myopically on cross commerce,
losing their moral turpitude. The utter lack of transparency
in the IPL did come to light a few
years back and Board of Control
for Cricket in India (BCCI) predict-
ably responded by pointing a fin-ger on Lalit Modi whose brain
child was the IPL, wrested. But
alas! little was done to monitor the
off-field activities of players, agents and hangers on and its a
total failure on the part of IPL
management, against its owncode of conduct. The above ar-
rests are just a tip of the iceberg,
police said. When 3 Pakistani
players were involved in spot-fix-
ing in the summer of 2010 in En-gland, the Indian fans and the
games administrators chose to
believe that Indian players were
untainted, they have all their
neivity to blame. With the bless-
ings of BCCI, the IPL has becomea kind of rogue colossus and this
is by far the biggest blow to
BCCIs credibility and honour.Cricket in India stands now on
the edge of prescription and if it
is to be saved from the men whohave allowed the game to be
placed the mortal danger, must
own responsibility for their acts
of commission and omission.
When CSKs image is badly af-fected when its Team Principal,
Gurunath Meiyappan is being ar-
rested for alleged involvement in
betting and spot-fixing scandals, his Father-in-law and owner of
Chennai Super Kings belonging
to India Cements and the Presi-
dent of BCCI , N.Srinivasan is re-ally in the dock today, the way in
which he has run both enter-
prises. The manner in which a bla-
tant falsehood is now peddled by
him that Meiyappan was notCSKs Team Principal but only an
gency meeting to take stock ofthe current scenario and ask its
President to step down in the in-
terests of the game. The govern-
ment should order for a thoroughand independent probe, even by
CBI into all the 75 matches in this
years and last IPL , bring out the
truth and punish the culprits im-
mediately. BCCI is answerable to
public as a society and is ac-countable and the government
has every right to interfere in the
matter ordering for a fair probe
and it should be brought underthe ambit of Right to Information
Act (RTI). That will only makethe board strong and credible.
The steps will be a morale
booster, instilling the public con-
fidence in the integrity of the game
in all fairness. This will make a
real difference in cricket.
Gillette, a true man brand, initiated the most unique campaign called Soldier for Women. Started in themonth of January, the campaign graduated to become a national movement gaining support from all overthe country as it travelled across Bengaluru, Lucknow, Indore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. Atthe culmination of this national movement Soldier for Women, celebrities Tisca Chopra, Prachi Desai,Arbaaz Khan, V.V.S Laxman and Aditya Roy Kapur came forward to celebrate hope with over 12 millionsupport pledges received for this campaign and over 3 lac real men of honour stories shared by likemindedpeople across digital, mobile and other platforms.
Commenting at the occasion of culmination Dr Nandita Gandhi, Co-Director, Akshara said, Soldier forWomen is one of its kind initiative by Gillette.
Mr. Sharat Verma, Country Marketing Manager, Gillette India Limited said, Gillette Soldier for Womenis a unique movement which celebrates man values the top most being respect and standing up for women. This is an annual movement that celebrates man values like courage, camaraderie, integrity and respect forwomen. We at Gillette firmly believe that these values exist in all men and through this movement we wantto encourage and give voice to millions of men who have embraced these values.
Former Indian cricketer V.V.S Laxman highlighted the manvalues that all men have within themselvesand how Gillette thru this movement has been a true male brand, bringing to light these values.
Commenting on Gillettes Soldier for Women initiative, celebrities Arbaaz Khan and Aditya Roy Kapursaid, It gives us immense joy to be raising awareness for a cause that is extremely close to our heart.Gillette has been a true male brand. It has stood up and by for men and helped men to bring forth theirvalues. It has not just given a platform to bring forth the real men of honour stories, but encouraged othermen to imbibe these values in them the top most being respect and standing up for women. We are proudto be men who have always respected, valued and stood up for women, not just family and friends butanyone who have reached out for help. We are Soldier for Women and you can be one too.
Soldier for Women movement initiated by Gillette
Storm in BCCI - billions of Indians cheated!
The storm is now brewing over in BCCI and in a significantfast development and upturn of events, 2 top BCCIofficials and strong lieutenants of Srinivasan viz.Sanjay,
Jagdale, secretary and Ajay Shirke, Treasurer submitted theresignations on 31st May over the recent unpleasant scandalsin the game which they said it deeply hurt them. It seems thatsome other office bearers may also follow suit to step downby exerting pressure on Srinivasan, president to resign, eventhough he refuses to budge.
The BCCI have since called for an emergency workingcommittee meeting slated on 8th June to take stock of therecent development to decide the future codes of action. Anotherfast development is that it seems the ICC has warned orallyGurunath Meiyappan, principal of CSK to stay away frombookies which he also responded to police by saying yes.
Hence it is again reiterated that the BCCI is collectivelyresponsible as a body and is answerable and accountable tothe public, even RTI and quit the posts. An emergency generalbody meeting should be immediately convened to elect newmembers to save its prestige. At this critical juncture, thegovernment should step in and order for a thorough independentprobe, even CBI probe, to investigate the current scandals, affecting the game and submit an white paper and take deterrant
action upon the culprits if proved. The law should be amendedsoon with a provision for stringent punishment for any illegalcriminal wrong-doings indulged in the game.
A team of professionals, sports persons including somesenior players investing powers should be constituted to overseethe BCCI and its functions in the interest of the game to preserveit as a gentlemans game. This will create public confidencein the system.
enthusiast of the game, raisesmany questions of impropriety
and conflict of interest that de-
stroys the credibility of cricket.
In the current scenario, whereeverything from runs given, wick-
ets taken, catches dropped arethought to be linked to corrupt
practices, the continuance of
Srinivasan at the helm of affairs
of the head of the BCCI not onlydefames the Cricket Boards anti-
corruption code but also mocks
the very spirit of cricket and be-
littles the interests that billions of
fans take in the game. The Indian
cricket have to be saved from allthe power games of politicians,
tycoons and fixtures who have
their interest in power money that
influence control over cricket, not
in real interest of the game. At this
juncture , he should step downforthwith on moral grounds dis-
associating from himself by giv-
ing adherence to so many heavy
weights voices throughout thecountry and anger of millions of
fans that will only save his pres-
tige and honour and the BCCIalso, until the pendency of en-
quiry proceedings are over or oth-
erwise he will be left unceremoni-
ously.
The spot-fixing has followedthe precepts and precincts of cor-
ruption in India. Initially, the au-
thorities deny everything and
then out of force, order for an en-
quiry and then tell law will take itsown course. Occasionally, a
scapegoat is found who is way
down the packing order, leaving
the real culprits to continue the
realms of power. IPL is the root of
real money power and all evil.More than the public, the spon-
sors hold the key which has been
chartered as a means where the
billionaires congregate and mint
more money bucks and hang the
sport. It is an issue of propriety, the whole BCCI is accountable to
the Nation when it is riddled with
all sorts of irregularities. IPL T-20
is a small sport version is no doubt, has given space to good un-
known new players to test their
prowess of cricketing ability in allsorts of the game, giving them a
lot of money which they never
dreamt of in their life, ploughing
of enormous funds flow for BCCI
that inturn uses some funds for thedevelopment of the game, building
stadiums etc. But the way in which
it functions is autocratic, undemo-
cratic that is more interested in spin-
ning money power etc.
The recent announcement bythe Law and Sports Ministry to
change the law to bring anti-fix-
ing legislations on betting and fix-ing are imperative and welcome
to fix corruption in sport and
should be brought in no loss oftime. It is a blessing in disguise
and the need of the hour. The
BCCI should call for an emer-

Walk! Walk - Walk and Walk!!FOR YOUTHFUL VITALITY
Birds are meant to fly, fish to
swim, monkeys to jump and
human beings to walk. Walking is
a great form of exercise for all
types of people, unmindful of
age.
Just simply walking will not
work at all. Brisk walking or power
walking is extremely good to burn
fat as well as to strengthen all the
muscles of the body. Brisk
walking can lower your risk of high
blood pressure, high cholesterol
and diabetes. Brisk or powerwalking is less stressful on the
joints and tones more muscles in
the upper body. Walking is a
remedy for aching back, strained
neck, rigid shoulders and poor
posture. Longer walks are best
for losing weight. Shorter and
faster walks will condition your
heart and lungs.
Walking attracts many -
because it can be done anytime,
anywhere and anybody. Walking
is a fun, it is convenient and
inexpensive . Walking can be
enjoyed alone or with the
company of friends. It requires
no special equipments. 30
minutes of brisk walking everyday
burns 9 pounds (4kgs) of body
fat a year. According to Dr.Walter
Bortz, American College of Sports
Medicine ( A.C.S.M) Your legs
can make your heart stronger, butyour heart can never make your
legs stronger.
All great thoughts are
conceived by walking. If you are
seeking for cheerful ideas, go for
walking. Angels will whisper
with you. Walking will give you
peace. It gives a chance to slow
down, to relax and to appreciate
yourself and your life. The Bible,
Habakku 3:19 says, the Lord God
is my strength, He will make my
feet like deers feet and He will
make me walk on high hills and
mountains.
So walk! walk! - walk and
walk!! for evergreen spirit, unmindful of age.
