Member newsCall me crazy but when February rolls around each year, I am already starting to get ready for golf to begin! Soon the snow will be replaced with our beautiful landscaping and green grass and the fun begins all over again.
Thank you to those Members who have made the last couple months very exciting with Member referrals - our Club has had some great additions because of your help. I am always here, no matter how cold, to help in bringing your friends & associates into Hawthorn Woods Country Club.

1.Staying warmAs the calendar swings into February, we are looking at the final stretch of our Paddle Season. With these last six weeks usually comes the coldest weather of the year. Here are a couple of quick tips to staying warm on the courts:
1. Layers – These are an outdoorsman’s best friend, but can be somewhat of a hassle while trying to be athletic. I like to keep the layers to a minimum on the lower part of my body allowing me to keep my feet moving to get in position for every shot that may come at me. The upper body is where you can add the most layering and actually improve your game. Adding layers to the upper body can force you to have a shorter more compact swing, as you don’t get the same range of motion you would on the tennis court. This plays into your paddle game perfectly. I usually stick with an Under Armor cold gear with two to three shirts, and a sweatshirt to top it off. Gloves are a personal choice for every player. I would recommend the Wilson Defender gloves that we carry in the fitness area. These or any gloves that offer a moisture resistant palm, tacky leather in the palm area, and a little longer cuff for warmth.
2. The Feet – I always feel that my feet are what make the biggest difference while on the paddle courts. If my feet are cold, the rest of my body is cold. A few years ago I started buying Heat Treat Toe Warmers. In each packet come two thin warming strips that will tape to the inside of your shoes and maintain their heat for up to six hours. I have tried taping them to the bottom and the top of the shoe always around the toe area. I have always found the top of the shoe works best for me. You can find these at any outdoors or sporting goods stores for $1.50 - $2.25 a pair.
