May Tour Kamloops “Meet the Dean in 2013”
LETTERS to the EDITOR
BRT 2013: - Lately I have had the opportunity to drive the highway to Quesnel and I question about taking the
older cars on it in regards to the suggested 2013 Back Road Tour going Barkerville. Another suggestion I have
is to make it a week end affair based in Oliver. There are quite a number of things that could be done in that
area. I would appreciate hearing comments in regards to such a proposed tour. Thanks John Rostron. [email protected] [250 378 9563]
Brass Monkey Garage Tour Saturday November 17th

{Ed’s note: - Why Saturday? Well it was marked on the club’s calendar. That’s why!}

Please bring an item to be auctioned off at the October General Meeting.
Remember when shopping for items at LORDCO give the Vintage Car discount # 835 and when at KMS
Tools state #990044.
In the Classified Want Ads I have mention that I could use the services of someone to write a monthly article
of some sort to help make the Kamshaft a club newsletter and not a one man’s opinion. You do not have to be a
professional speller or writer as you can tell I am not, just want your participation. If each member presented
one article per year it would provide over 8 articles per issue. Of course that would present another problem
fitting them all in. I know some of you are wondering if I still believe in the Easter Bunny & Santa Claus. Well
Miracles do happen once in awhile.
I guess all Newsletter Editor’s have the same problem. The following statement is taken from the Victoria
Newsletter: -
- As a Chapter member it’s your newsletter and to that extent it would be great to have more members
sending in articles and/or pictures. I have been receiving a few stories from members and as I have previously noted there is no need for submissions to be smoothly written or complete. Actually it could be that an idea for a story can be very valuable. If articles are forwarded for the newsletter then certainly basic copy will suffice. I can put the information together in an article by using the information provided. Thanks Bill Bouchard, Editor

Subject of Dancing
*I took the wife to the disco last weekend. *
*There was a guy on the dance floor giving it everything: break dancing, moon walking,
back flips....you know ....."the works". *
*My wife said, "That guy proposed to me 25 years ago and I turned him down."
*I said, "Looks like he's still celebrating....!!! "*

AMBULANCE GETS PAINTED
Dennis from Car-Go Towing was nice enough to move it up and back to Overdrive Collision Centre Ltd for
painting. It is nice to have it painted as that means it is starting to go back together again.
It was no time at all after arriving back at Andy’s shop the boys were back to work. If you have not seen it
you should drop by Andy’s shop at 721 Tagish Rd on a Thursday night to see the amount of work the crew has
put into this restoration. It will be a real eye catcher when it is on the road.
Looking good Dick getting started while Ray steadies window for Doug
Jerry has Julian supervising. Doug, Jason & Ray working on a side window. Keith cleaning up window frame.

GARY VAN DYKE’S Memorial Run September 23
rd Gary Van Dyke’s brother Mickey
invited the Vintage Car and Kamloops Street Rod clubs
along with other friends of Gary’s to make the drive out to
the farm at Chase Creek to reminisce about the good old
days and Gary. Lots of stories were told about different
car events and the various cars Gary had owned over the
years in the two car clubs. There were at least 81 cars and
25 motorcycles came and went. Thanks to Mickey for
supplying everything for a great party as there was lots of
food and refreshments for everyone.
Thanks to Don Potts & Jerry Wallin for the photos.

John Foley
Swap Meet Chairman
At the September General Meeting Swap Meet
Chairman John Foley thanked all those that helped
make the 1st Swap Meet at Logan Lake a success. The
volunteers were slow in coming however at the last
moment they did show up and help. According to
treasurer Rich we did make money so it will be a go
again next year. John reported that vendors heard
about it and are already registering for next year.
John realizes that a great
number of you will be helping with the May Tour
however he would like you to mark on your calendar
and reserve some of your time to help him at the 2nd
Logan Lake Swap Meet June 1st
2013. {Ed’s notes:
- John does a fantastic job for the club however he can’t
handle the Swap Meet alone so please support John and
volunteer to help next June!}

GEORGE’S
17th
Pumpkin Run
We left Valleyview A & W at
9:00 on a beautiful fall morning
with over 150 cars. Our first
stop was “Dream Cycles
Museum” for a look back into
times of Motorcycling.
Next stop after a beautiful fall
drive was “Grindrod Pub” for
the car show with 300 of the
most beautiful verity of
automobiles, Vintage, Classic
Street rods, Customs, Pickups
and Brits.
After a great lunch and a long
walk to see all the cars it was
on the road again to Armstrong
to the “ The Garage” for ice
cream and a look at some hi
teak chasse building with live
music in the background. On
the road again, back home. All
in all a great day. Don Potts

How things have changed as today the dogs get to
ride inside. Maybe that is because the laws have
changed or because the cars no longer have fenders
to ride on. Now the dogs get to stick their heads out
the window and smile at people as they go by.
Sorrento
Show &
Shine
Winners
We attended the Sorrento Show and Shine on Sat., Sept 8/2012. – It was a
very nice day and Sorrento put on a good show with many cars and trucks on display. They gave out dash plaques and sponsorship awards. We had the 1911 McLaughlin out and received a Sponsor’s Award from Dream Cycle Motorcycle Museum. Vicky & Jerry Wallin
What you can buy today with $2685?
Bob Chambers {Member of HNITC committee} reported that it was the best show they have ever had. The only
complaint that came in this year was from a merchant that people standing in front of his store were smoking.
Thanks to Bob and those club members that entered their cars.

Each year on St Annes road near Vernon the SPCC hold a
two day event featuring steam & old tractors, mower races,
ploughing, threshing and more. It is a great show and if you
have never been plan for next year. John & Laverne Duerksen
travelled down with Noella and me. You never know how
many years’ shows like this will be available.
SPCC was very pleased and thankful for the turnout of Kamloops members and their cars on Saturday.
Andy had to pull the log around and between pylons over a laid out course without hitting any. He was very
please as this year he managed to unseat the reigning champion in the log pull Editor
