Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality

enhancement.

To commence degree course B. Com. with Accounting and Finance (B.Com. A/F).

To arrange peace rally so as to inculcate sense of the communal harmony and

national integrity among students.

To arrange workshop on Gender Sensitization so that the sense of equality among the girls

and boys will be developed.

To organize a Free Medical Advisory Camp for the students, teachers, parents and the other

citizens in the surrounding area.

To apply for the membership of INFLIBNET which provides access to the N-List project of

e-journals and e-books.

To arrange an exhibition of the books available in the library. Proactive approach to create

reading habits among students.

To organize interactive session with renowned writer, so as to create interest in literature

which is observed to be declined today.

To arrange talent hunt show so that FOROUM will be provided to the students.

To arrange at two days workshop on career counseling for the students of all faculties

regarding career opportunities after graduation.

To commence free coaching classes for the preparation for entrance examinations held for

the recruitment at Banks, Railways, UPSC, MPSC.

To register the Alumni association and Parents Teachers association with charity

commissioner‟s office.

To organize an Educational visit to Science Exhibition, Science Centre and Research and

Development Centers/ Departments.

Arrangement of Seminars / Conferences /Workshops, to discuss and deliberate on current

issues and thereby enhance the quality of teaching learning process.

Conducting „Theme based‟ Co-curricular, Extra-curricular, Outreach activities through

NSS/DACEE/WDC and other such units.

Augmentation of infrastructure facilities in tune with introduction of new courses and natural

growth.

To arrange lectures of Experts to guide and encourage the faculty for Research Activities and

to get through NET/SET Examinations.

To encourage faculty members to update themselves about technological developments in the

teaching learning process, student centric teaching methods by various means like attending

seminars, workshops ,refresher/orientation programmes.

Section B: Details in respect of the following (attach separate sheet).

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution

a) In reflecting the global outlook and to enhance the knowledge of computer of our

teachers and to familiarize them with effective ways of teaching with the help of

computer one day inhouse workshop on Computer Training for staff members was

conducted in college on 29th

December 2010 by Information technology Department

staff.

b) The UGC under the scheme of Epoch Making Social Thinker of India permitted to

establish Gandhian Studies Center in the college. Accordingly in the month of October

2010 Gandhian Studies Center was established in the college. This center undertakes

several projects to inculcate the values which seem to be lost. The centre on the occasion

of Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd

Oct 2010, organized a Peace Rally in Kannamwar Nagar with the

purpose to inculcate a sense of communal harmony and National integrity”

c) To understand the beauty in the literature and to create interest in it which is observed to

be declined today, on 31st Jan.2011, Marathi vangamay mandal of the college organized

programme “Jaganech gane Assave“ an interactive session with renowned writer and

lyricist Prof. Praveen Davane. Seven students of the college read the poems followed by

poems reading by Prof. Praveen Davane. He elaborated on beauty in the literature of

renowned writer and Gyanpeeth awardee late V.V. Shirwadkar.

On this occasion, best reader award was given to Mr.Santosh Sakpal , student of

T.Y.B.A.

d) Talent hunt show in association with well known corporate Uninor was arranged on 4th

December 2011. On spot entry was allowed to all students who want to prove their talent

in singing, drama and dance. Thirty five students from all faculties participated in the

competitions.

e) Library of the college arranged an exhibition of the books available in the library.

Exhibition was open for students for two days on 1st and 2

nd Feb.2011. It was an attempt

to display the strength of library in terms of reading material and proactive approach to

create reading habits among students.

f) Quiz on Mathematics “Maths O Mania“ was conducted on 21st and 22

nd Feb.2011

for college students. The purpose of quiz was twofold ,to test the fundamentals

knowledge of mathematics, its application in such way that the myth about the

mathematics that it is tough subject will be proved wrong and at the same time they will

be able to handle the quiz on computer itself, an experience of online examination.

g) Dr. Datta Samant free medical advisory center in assosciation with Sammarth Hospital

organized free medical advisory camp for students, parents and public in vicinity area on

31st March 2011.The camp was attended by around 80 persons, two doctors from

Sammarth hospital attended them and provided them useful medical advice. N.S.S.

Students of the college shouldered the responsibility of the camp under supervision of

medical practitioner Dr.Megha Shetty.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG)

Started Undergraduate course, B.Com. (Accounting and finance) this year.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction

Every year Physics Department arranges study tour to Nehru Science Centre at Worali. This

year it was arranged on 30/8/2010.

An Industrial visit to Vineyard in Igatpuri and Nasik was arranged for B.Sc.(Biotechnology)

and B.M.S. students on 27th

Oct 2010.The entire process right from plantation stage till the

packaging of wine, final product was explained to students. B.Sc.(Biotechnology) student got

exposure of technical aspect and B.M.S. students were exposed to the aspect of quality

control, administration, marketing…etc.

College encouraged Chemistry and Biotechnology second and third year students to attend

the ten days workshop on “Spectroscopy and Chromatography” at G.N.Khalsa College,

Matunga from 09/11/2010 to 19/11/2010.Training regarding handling advance equipments

for research was provided in the workshop.

Guidance Lectures in various Department for T.Y.B.Sc./B.A./B.Com students were

conducted to facilitate their way to excellence in University Exam.

Examinations are conducted on behalf university of Mumbai as per the rules & regulations of the

University of Mumbai.

In addition to the regular examinations like Term Exam and ATKT exam, college conducts a

Preliminary examination for the final year students, alonge the lines of university pattern, about one

month before University examination. The students are then given feedback and general guidelines

to improve their performance.

Some departments conducts periodic tests in their respective subjects for each class by way

of open book test, test series, objective test etc. to improve the general performance.

Question bank for Viva-voce of practical examination was provided to students.

Almost in all subjects of the science and for subject communication skill ,Business

Communication class room seminars are conducted.

Examination Time-Table for first year and second year term end examinations are arranged

in such a manner, that student get one day preparation leave for each paper.

6. Candidates qualified: NET/SLET/GATE etc.

Prof. Arun Kadu, Head of Dept. Chemistry passed the NET examination.

7. Initiative towards faculty development programme

To create awareness among the staff about the importance of Ph.d, M. Phil, its procedural

aspect, career advancement opportunities related with it, a seminar on „Research and

Publication‟ was organised 27th

Dec 2010. Dr. Arvind Luhar, Member of Board of studies

Accountancy and Associate professor in the Ismile Yusuf college guided the staff.

23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on

student feedback.

Assessment of teachers performance is made in all courses. The shortcomings if any are

reported to the concerned teacher. The Principal and the Head of the Department provides

necessary guidelines for improvement in performance. The implementation of suggested

improvement is reviewed by the Principal in the informal meetings with the class

representative and Head of the Department.

24. Unit cost of education

Cost of education on the basis of day to day expenditure is Rs.3,77,41,788/-.

Cost of education excluding salary component, it is Rs.1,28,41,307/-.

Accordingly the unit cost of education is Rs.14372/-

(Excluding salary component it is Rs.4890/-)

25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results,

issue of certificates.

Accounts Section use the TALLY package for processing the accounts. Generation of

Statement of marks /Mark sheets is computerized. The computerization of library functions is

in process. SOUL software developed by UGC – INFLIBNET center is purchased for the

same, rest fuctions are performed with the help of computers.

26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities

Rs.233466/-were spent on renovation of chemistry laboratory and Physics laboratory.

Laboratory equipments worth Rs.1,40,705/- were purchased during the year.

Ground floor of the main building was renovated.The total expenses of renovation including

civil work ,furniture, office equipments ,electrical fitting were Rs.17,26,800/-

27. Technology up gradation

To facilitate computer aided learning, Rs.886190/- was spent on purchase of nine

computers, ten L.C.D. projectors, three DVDR, ten computer tables with key board and

table top glass.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non-teaching staff and students

Almost all teachers are computer savvy and having either, their own desktop/laptop

computers and if at all they require any guidance, it is provided by the teachers of the Information

Technology Department.

Prof. Mrs. Seema Rahul conducts computer and internet training for our non-teaching staff

members. Average age of the non-teaching administrative staff is around 35 and they are computer

literate.

We are offering B.Sc.Degree and M.Sc.degree in the subject Information and Technology.

Similarly at S.Y.B.Com and at T.Y.B.Com we are offering computer as optional subject.

Internet facilities are provided in the computer laboratory, library, administrative office and

in the U.G.C. Resource center. Teaching and non-teaching staff can access the internet facilities at

all said places however access to internet facilities for students is allowed at computer laboratories

and in library only.

The students in the Science section are encouraged to present their in-house projects through power

point presentation.

They are encouraged to use internet by prescribing addresses of the websites for paper presentations

and seminars in the classroom.

The teachers provide their e-mail ids to the students so that an online academic interaction becomes

possible.

The library provides guidance for MS-CIT examination.

29. Financial aid to students

a) Facility of paying fees in installments is provided to needy students.

b) Book bank scheme is made available to underprivileged students.

c) All students are insured for accident under Group insurance.

d) In the Dept. of Information Technology, selected students are provided with free

advanced training during vacation.

30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association

o Prof. C. G. Deogaonkar, Sr.lecturer working with the college from the day of

inception of the college, is the office bearer of the Alumni Association. He has

reserved the last Saturday of every month for alumni members.

o Prof. Milind Paradkar, faculty in Science section has formed a yahoo group of alumni

members. I.T. section professors are in touch with the alumni on Facebook.

o Our alumni, Mr. Vishal Parab, coaches for sports and extracurricular activities. Some

alumni regularly attend the N.S.S. camp as well as blood donation programme

arranged by the N.S.S. unit of our college.

o Mr. Sanjay Patil, student of B.A. 2005 batch is now a lecturer in our college.Mr.

Hement Narvekar student of B.Com.1992 batch and Miss Bhakti Shetye, student of

B.Com.2006 batch are members of non-teaching staff of college.

31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association.

Parents teachers association is established in the college and its registration with charity

commissioner is in progress.

On the following occasions teachers meet the parents.

I. Felicitation of meritorious students along with their parents.

II. Unfair means enquiry committee meetings.

III. Meeting with the parents of defaulters.

IV. Blood donation camp and other such social activities.

V. Meeting with the parents of the N.S.S. students.

VI. In certain circumstances, parents are invited for discussion or counseling in order to

find solutions for problems faced by individual students.

VII. Peace rally is organized on Gandhi Jayanti ,on 02nd

Oct. every year

In the meeting, teachers provide feedback to parents about the performance of the wards.

Similarly, a parent also provides very useful information about their wards, their family

background…etc. which is very useful in making teaching more students centric. Parents‟

supportive approach helps us to implement disciplinary measures, attendance policies in

positive manner. Their suggestions are useful while introducing a new course and new

subjects in the college.

32. Health services.

Dr.Datta Samant Free Advisory Medical Advisory Centre has been offering preliminary

medical assistance and advice to the students, teachers as well as parents.

Health services are being provided by the college N.S.S. unit are mentioned in

ANNEXURE- E

33. Performance in sports activities.

This year college organized Inter-collegiate Handball tournament on behalf of the

University of Mumbai on 2th & 28th Nov, 2010. The tournament was inaugurated by the Chief

Guest Mr. Ranbir Singh, Secretary, Mumbai Division Handball Academy, Ms. Mangal Saraf

National Table Tennis Player was the Guest of Honour for the inaugural function. Women as well

as men teams from various colleges of the University of Mumbai participated in tournament.

College S.Y. B.Sc.. student Tanvi Bhikaji Mondkar secured consolation prize in Disc throw, short

put throw at Intra Collegiate University Tournament. In the Kabaddi, Kho-kho, football and in

cricket College teams qualified for quarter finals.

College also actively participated in the Intra Collegiate University Tournament in various events.

At the Intercollegiate Volley Ball Competitions conducted by Mumbai University, college

Volley Ball team qualified up to Zonal level. Our T.Y. B.COM student Tushar Tarkat selected for

the Mumbai University team and participated in “Ashwamedh” intra university competition held at

Akola, Maharashtra and at Jaipur.

College has participated at Volley Ball Intercollegiate Competitions conducted by Somaiya College,

Vidyavihar and by Burhani College, Byculla and won the first and second prize respectively.

Annual Intra- Class Sports comprising Various team and individual events (indoor and outdoor) was

organized from 18th

to 21st Dec,2010. Prizes, medals & certificates were distributed to winners .

34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons.

a) Cash prizes, trophies, medals, appreciation certificates are given to the winning students

during the sports days.

b) Special coaching is provided for volley ball event.

c) Special guidance are conducted for the students who missed out the regular lectures for

representing intercollegiate college / university competitions, such students are allowed

to appear for additional examination if their events clash with college examination time

table.

35. Student achievements and awards

In the Intercollegiate competition UTKARSH 2010 conducted at North Maharashtra

University, Jalgaon, college student Miss. Preshita More, T.Y.B.Com secured Gold Medal

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit

Information Technology Department conducted a guidance seminar in the college on “Higher

Education Overseas” by Guest Speaker Ms. Smita Patankar (GEEBEE) on 21st Dec 2010.

Career guidance fair was arranged for science faculty students on 01/02/2011 and for

Commerce and Arts students on 02/02/2011.

The Women Development Cell organizes sessions on topics like health and hygiene, career

opportunities for women, social security of the women etc. Through the workshop on gender

sensitization, the cell tries to create awareness among the students about gender equality so

that the girl students shouldn‟t face any indecent happenings in the college premise.

The employment opportunities available in entire Maharashtra published on the website

www.mahanews.gov.in are regularly displayed on the college notice Board.

The librarian provides guidance to the students about several books on the competitive

examinations available in the library.

At the time of admission the students are guided about the scope and future prospects for the

subject which they opt for in the present scenario.

37. Placement services provided to students.

Mega Campus Interview was conducted for the college students on 24th

July 2010 in the college

auditorium . Ten (10) corporate bodies from various fields had participated in the said campus

interview.

Around 350 students including our Alumni form various faculties of our college had visited the

drive submitting their bio-data‟s and meeting the corporate counters for their job needs.

Corporates participated were: Maersk Global Service Centers (I) Pvt. Ltd, Willis Processing Services

(I) Pvt. Ltd, Eyeglobal Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Centum Learning limited(Bharti-Airtel associates),

Magus Customer Dialog Pvt. Ltd, Devdhar Joglekar and Srinivasan (C.A), Spice BPO Services Ltd,

I Process Services Pvt. Ltd, Edelweiss (I) Ltd, I.M.C Marketing (I) Pvt. Ltd.

38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff

Prof.Mrs. Seema Rahul faculty from the Department of Information Technology

organizes computer training programmes for non teaching staff wherein they are guided on

use of computers, internet and recent developments therein.

Prof.Mrs.Shubhada Deshpande, faculty from the Dept. of English conducts classes for

non teaching staff wherein they are guided about drafting of official correspondence as well as

speaking skills in English.

39. Healthy practices of the institution.

a) The guidance lectures of the subject experts from different colleges and University of

Mumbai are arranged for the T.Y. students of all faculties.

b) Every year we invite the Ex-students to guide our current students in sports and NSS.

c) In-house project work is made compulsory for the science student.

To develop patriotism among students following activities are conducted.

We celebrate 15th

August and 26th

Every day before the first lecture the National Song is played.

The birth and death anniversaries of the national leaders are celebrated in the college.

Eminent academicians are invited to deliver lectures.

A periodic wall paper magazine is published by the students under the guidance of the

teachers.

The library committee has introduced Readers‟ Forum wherein the students and the

faculty members share their ideas on the books read by them.

To ensure co-ordination and harmonious relationship among all the employees,

various days like 5th

September, and 1st May are celebrated with an active

involvement of all the teaching and non-teaching members.

In order to inculcate a respect for tradition among the students, Ganesh Festival is

celebrated every year in the college premises.

Technical University, Punjab and Alagappa University, Tamilnadu, which have their

To commence under gradute course B.Sc.(Computer science) and post graduate course

M.Com.(Management).

Marathi vangmay mandal planned to arrange a programme by well known anchor

Mr.Sudhir Gadgil .

To commence free coaching classes for the preparation for entrance examinations held

for the recruitment at Banks, Railways, UPSC, MPSC.

To provide basic knowledge of computer applications to those students who are not

opting for computer as part of curriculum.

To register the Alumni association and Parents Teachers association with charity

commissioner‟s office.

To organize an Educational visit to Science Exhibition, Science Centre and Research and

Development Centers/ Departments.

Arrangement of Seminars / Conferences /Workshops, to discuss and deliberate on current

issues and thereby enhance the quality of teaching learning process.

To celebrate Silver jubilee year by arranging several Academic , cultural, well-fare

programmes.

Conducting „Theme based‟ Co-curricular, Extra-curricular, Outreach activities through

NSS/DACEE/WDC and other such units.

Augmentation of infrastructure facilities in tune with introduction of new courses and

natural growth. The plan for construction of fourth floor on the main building is

submitted to Bombay Muncipal Corporation for approval .

To arrange lectures of Experts to guide and encourage the faculty for Research Activities

and to get through NET/SET Examinations.

To encourage faculty members to update themselves about technological developments in

the teaching learning process, student centric teaching methods by various means like

attending seminars, workshops ,refresher/orientation programme.

Women development cell have planned to conduct a survey about socioeconomic

background of girls in the college so as to plan priority of the programmes of the WDC.

To arrange one day programme for creating awareness among the girls students about

the issues related with gender equality, eve teasing , atrocities on women, female

infanticide and various govt. schemes to eradicate it.

Gandhian studies center established in the college has planned to conduct certificate

course on “Gandhiji and Women empowerment” and to arrange the lectures on the related

issues like Gandhijis contribution to empowerment of women and Gender Equality, Role

of Govt. in empowerment of women, women empowerment movement in post

independent era – constitutional provision and challenges faced by women…etc.

To commence the “Career project” in addition to the Annapurna Yojana projects and

Information technology projects at the center of Department of lifelong learning and

extension of Mumbai University ( DELLE ) situated in the college.

Sports Department has planned following events

Community Services -

Tree Plantation: On 9th

August, 2010, the NSS unit of the college had undertaken the

programme of tree plantation in the college campus. 281 volunteers planted more than 200

plants around Vikas College Campus.

Cleanliness Drive: The Program of cleanliness drive in the college was undertaken from 21st

, 23rd

and 25th

August 2010. On 21st August a rally was organized in the surrounding areas to

create awareness about the need and importance of cleanliness.

Gender Sensitisation : Mr. Arun Naik conceller from Institute of Psychological Health

Sanstha, Thane delivered a lecture on Gender Sensitization on 29th

Sept 2010.

Blood Donation Drive : With the help of Red Ribbon Club NSS unit organized Blood

Donation Drive on 16th

Jan 2011 and collected 463 units of blood.

Hiroshima Peace Rally : NSS unit was invited by the University of Mumbai to participate

in Peace Rally rally from Azad maidan to Hutatma Chowk on 6th

August 2010. Over 300

NSS volunteers actively participated in this rally.

Bus Queue: This is a one day project undertaken by the unit on Kannamwar Nagar and

Vikhroli station bus stops. On 25th

October 2010, the students helped to maintain queue at the

bus stops and maintained the discipline of the crowd. (256 volunteers).

Ganesh Immersion Traffic control Duty: The unit carried out the program for 3 days i.e.

on 15th

, 17th

and 21st September. During these days our students controlled the traffic with

the help of police.

IV: Book Exhibition:

Book Exhibition was arranged on 31st Jan, 1st & 2nd Feb.2011. This exhibition was open to all

parents, students and the residents of Kannamwar Nagar and nearby area. The exhibition was

inaugurated by well known Marathi writer and lyricist Prof. Pravin Davane. We had also invited

“Liberty Literature, Dadar” to exhibit and sell their books.

The Best Reader Award has been initiated from the academic year 2010-11 to promote interest in the

reading.
