We are off to a great start. Thanks go out toyour children for working hard and having apositive attitude. It has been an exciting time so far getting to know one another and learning all kinds of new things. October will bring even more learning and joy in the things that we will explore.

Thanksgiving is near! It is a special time to give thanks for the

treasures and gifts we share with family and

friends. Thanksgiving Monday is October 13, 2014. It is a day off from school. Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless.

Terry Fox Run SuccessThank you so much for supporting your children in our Terry Fox Run and for their active participation. Our annual Terry Fox Run was a huge success!

Just a few reminders of the routines that happen here in our classroom, the students continue to read each day. I have selected reading material for them in individual baskets. After finishing a book from their basket they fill a book report and earn Class Money. These books don’t got home.In the agendas, students should bring back a home book to read each night. Starting October 14th , in the agendas, you will find a reading log calendar. Please, write down approximately how many minutes you read at home with your child. In addition please write down at least one word that your child had difficulty with (either reading or meaning). I will attach a detail description of why we are doing this as well as how to do it, in the agendas. Our new classroom I would like to thank you and the amazing Grade 3 students for being so patient and staying positive, while waiting for our new classroom to be finished. We are almost there. I am hoping that we will be able to move in, in the next two weeks or sooner.

Language arts :

Main focus this month : Daily practice of our reading strategies helps us in

all subjects – our most important action/strategy is to THINK and QUESTION – What would make sense?

Knowledge of punctuation helps us become better oral and silent readers.

Understand the concept of a mental picture.

Math :

Main focus this month :

I. Numbers have value and can be represented in a variety of ways; that value can be used to order and compare various numbers.

II. What estimation strategies do I know how to apply to obtain a “reasonable” estimate?

III. Comparing 3 digit numbers.

Science :

Main focus this month : I. The Earth’s crust is made up of a variety of materials.

II. Rocks and minerals can be classified and identified using pre-established criteria for the properties.

III. Demonstrate positive attitudes for the study of science and for the application of science in responsible ways.

Social Studies :

Main focus this moth: I. We are Catholic citizens of the world; part of a larger

global community. II. As Catholic citizens we are called by God to live our

faith through actions of loving kindness. III. We are connected as children of God; we share

common interests, likes, dislikes, family and community roles, responsibilities and challenges with children in Canada, Peru, Tunisia, Ukraine and India.

Religion : The Holy Spirit Is At Work Among Us The Holy Spirit Is At Work In The Eucharist

Virtue of the month is Gratitude:

Quote of the month – “This is the day that the

Lord has made, let us rejoice and

be glad, in it.” Psalm 118:24 1. Give thanks to God for every day given to us. 2. If we expect others to be grateful for what we do, we should show appreciation to others.

Grade 3 Winners of the GOLDEN CAN AWARD

We won!!!!! The Golden Can award is given to the class

that has kept their classroom clean and tidy.

This is a great accomplishment since we have a small space and the students took

pride in keeping it as clean as we can. Congratulations!!!!!
