Once again, it has been my great pleasure being here this evening and I look forward to working with PE Doris and all of the RCBS members who will continue to do good things for Bali and other areas in Indonesia. Thank you and good night”

President Raphaël Devianne: “This is a time for one president to give a sigh and take a vacation and another to look at climbing a mountain. I will not enumerate this evening on what we as a board did or did not do this past year. Every President has his / her style, every Board has its inclinations and opportunities to carry out Rotary International’s SERVICE objectives. The important thing is that the transition between the outgoing and incoming Presidents and two teams be smooth and seamless. Rotary rules guide us, but it is the goodwill and the cooperation of the club members that can make this transition happen. I would now like to personally thank the RCBS members who took a larger part in the progress of our club during this past year. Could I ask you to please come up and receive your ‘Certificate of Appreciation’?

BOARD MEMBERS: PE Doris for increasing the RCBS’ membership and all the detailed work you did to make our weekly meetings run smoothly. VP Yuki for managing the RSBS’ Service Projects. Secretary Anita for writing the weekly minutes, the monthly Board minutes and your elegant ‘Thank you letters’. Treasurer Stephen for maintaining the RCBS’ Financial records. IPP Robin for your valuable support and good advice. YAYASAN SENYUM (Smile Foundation Bali: Rtns. Detlev & Lusi for organizing your weekly Sunday brunches and raising IDR 90 million. PN Barbara for coordinating the ‘Have a Heart’ fundraising dinner at the Cocoon and raising IDR 185 million. Honorary Member Mary for managing the Yayasan Senyum. ADMINISTRATION / PROJECTS Rtn. Florian for supervising the RCBS’ administration and setting up and then managing the club’s new Website. Rtn. Peter E. for managing and raising funds for the RCBS’ Micro-credit (goat) project. Rtn. Virginie and the Harris Resort for quietly, but consistently supporting the Yayasan Senyum and other orphanages in Bali CP Patrick for producing the weekly bulletin. SaA Sally for humorously and efficiently raising money every week by selling raffle tickets and encouraging ‘Happy dollar’ stories. SaA Jan for carrying out your Sergeant‐at-Arms’ responsibilities with great enthusiasm and vigor. Rtn. Marie Françoise for participating and helping out in all the RCBS’ activities. Pak Wira for working with Treasurer Stephen to ensure that the RCBS’s financial records were up-to-date and accurate.

I also want to thank every single member in this club who has helped in someway this year. All of us must remember why we are Rotarians:

- We are Rotarians to give a smile to a disfigured baby, - We are Rotarians to give an Elementary School student an opportunity to read a book, - We are Rotarians to give a High School student the possibility to achieve his / her education, - We are Rotarians to give a farmer living in Nusa Penida the means to improve his living by raising goats.

Let us be Rotarians. The rest are details. Earlier I talked about how a new President needs to climb a mountain during his / her Rotary year. This is a challenge, hard work and can even be stressful. This is why I am asking all of you tonight to help our future President PE Doris make the RCBS a dynamic and vibrant one. She will be surrounded by a strong team, but it’s the duty of every member in our Club to work along side of her so that she will be able to achieve her goals. PE Doris, may I now give you this President’s Chain as a symbol of your new role? Congratulations and we wish you a great year.” President Doris Angst Sommer

“Dear Rotarians and friends of Rotary Club of Bali Seminyak, thank you all for coming to our Handover Dinner this evening.

Thank you President Raphael for leading us through the 2013-2014 Rotary year.

I am honored and proud to receive the RCBS President’s chain. I thank you all for your trust in selecting me as the President of the RCBS. To wear this chain means to SERVE Rotary and our Community. I will do my BEST to uphold Rotary International’s Mission, The Four Way Test, the Objects of Rotary and the Five Avenues of Service.

I’d like to say a special thank you to all the Rotarians from our District and our Club and friends, who have already given me their great support.

Rotary International wants us to SERVE and support community projects, but it also needs us to support The Rotary Foundation, so it can fight against polio and support the many Humanitarian Programs it has.

The RCBS’ Foundation Goal this year is US$ 10,000. Let’s achieve this so we can help the many less-fortunate people around the world.

As our new RI President, Gary C.K. Huang has said, “To achieve our goals, we need to assume leadership for building strong clubs, and that starts with bringing in new members."

We as a club truly believe this, so tonight I would like to welcome our 1st new member of the 2014 – 2015 Rotary year – Mr. Jerry Knecht. Thank you so much Jerry for joining us in July.

To be a strong, VIBRANT club, we need to have active members as well as a strong leadership team, and with this, it is my pleasure to introduce our:

2014 – 2015 Board of Directors President-elect Barbara Mackenzie 1st VP Masaharu Yukimoto (Yuki) 2nd VP PP John Glass Secretary CP T. Patrick van Kampen Treasurer Stephen O'Brien Immediate Past President Raphael

RI President, Gary C.K. Huang, has chosen ‘Light Up Rotary’ as the theme for 2014-15. President Huang was inspired by the teachings of the Chinese philosopher, Confucius, who said:

"It is better to light a single candle, than to sit and curse the darkness."

During the 2014 International Assembly in San Diego, California, President Huang told the 537 DGs in attendance:

"There are so many problems in the world, so many people who need help. Many people say, 'There's nothing I can do.' So they sit there doing nothing. Meanwhile everything stays dark." "How you Light Up Rotary is up to you," President Gary C.K. Huang said. "You know where you are strong, you know what your community needs, and you know how you can help." "Light Up Rotary is our theme, but it is more than our theme. It is how we live in Rotary, how we think in Rotary, how we feel in Rotary, how we work in Rotary. It is how we make a difference — every day, in every club, every district, and every country where we serve." “The Rotary way is to light a candle. I light one, you light one, 1.3 million Rotarians light one. Together, we light up the world," said Huang.

Fellow Rotarians, please join with me now and light a candle ....... signifying the start of a New Rotary year. Hopefully, one filled with Harmony, Teamwork, Fellowship and Humanitarian projects.
