Shalom dear members -
This past February was Heart Healthy Month and all the
information made available to us on the subject was so
valuable. But it was also appreciation month for nurses,
and so to give them some equal time, and the
proper Chai Five to all nurses, let me share with you the story of just
one nurse from Israel. and, of course, from Hadassah hospital.
The hallways of Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem tell the ongoing
history of the City of Jeruslaem with thousands of personal stories,
too. One nurse - Libbie Goldstein Stern's story
begins when her mother, a Hadassah midwife,
carried her through these same hallowed
hallways at her birth. Libbie went on to
complete her National Service at Hadassah and
graduated from Hadassah's Henrietta
Szold School of Nursing, and then on to working many shifts as a
nurse in the maternity unit .
In 2010, Libbie was diagnosed with cancer, but she was
optimistic that she would recover, and dreamt, prayed, and hoped for
the best outcome possible. But in her wildest dreams, she could not
picture the moment, five years later in July 2015, after being cared for at
Hadassah Hospital, that she would step back into her nurse's
uniform and walk those hallways of Hadassah again as a member of
the staff...could not picture the miracle of going from patient to being

the helper once again, of others in need of medical care. So Libbie Goldstein Stern, at the age of 33
years, married to an Englishman, the mother of two princesses, a nurse and a life coach, is truly
thankful to Hadassah, and the One above, for her recovery as a cancer patient and restoring her to
her life's work.
And Hadassah's National Board has passed a Nursing Policy:
The Statement Policy,in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Henrietta Szold Hadassah-
Hebrew University School of Nursing, honors the nursing profession and reaffirms support to
enhance nursing education and promote supportive workplace polices. More about this policy can
be read on Hadassah’s website / under “Nursing Track.” Also on the website,
information under "Women's Health and Advocacy Conference" to be held May 15-17 in Washington D.C.
By the time you get this Chai Lites, Passover,
since it came so early this year, will be over before I
even got the chance to wish you all a joyous and sweet
Pesach. But hope, since in this glorious Hadassah
Chapter of N. Pinellas, we are all mostly grandmothers
rather than a "mistress of the house” we were perhaps
spared the exhausting work of that which is explained
on the right. This ditty is exactly, what it had been for
me, with the fondest of memories, but now, a little too
pooped for all of this….
Much love to you all - Ann

Wouldn’t you think that the person who plans,
The person who changes the pots and pans.
The person who suffers the elbowing crowd,
And brings home matza meal, bloody and bowed,
Who battles the butcher, accumulates plates,
And races the clock to those Passover dates.
Who polishes silverware, commandeers chairs,
And goes around muttering “nobody cares”.
Who fixes charoset and karpas and eggs,
And winds up with headaches and cramps in her legs.
Wouldn’t you think when the matzo is hid,
SHE merits the prize, not some smart-aleck kid?
Hadassah’s attractive and eye-catching greeting cards and certificates are a meaningful way to keep in touch with family and friends, and to
spread the name of Hadassah while giving tzedakah.
Buying these cards and certificates supports Hadassah’s important work while purchasing something we all need! Please stop by at the general meeting to view the variety of items that are available
for every occasion.

A Bold Vision for Tomorrow
It’s about compassion. | It’s about healing. | It’s about life.
360 Degrees of Healing, The Full Circle Campaign
360 Degrees of Healing
Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO), has defined health care in Israel.
It’s about compassion. It’s about healing. It’s about life.
But that’s not all. It’s also about a 360-degree vision in a changing world.
The Jerusalem Gateway Project is transforming the city into an entrepreneurial business
center. The Hadassah Medical will play a vital role in taking Jerusalem to the next
level – revolutionizing modern health care and expanding patient capacity.
This is a remarkable opportunity for HMO and its completely reimagined Round
Building, the original outpatient center and
core of the Ein Kerem campus.
As the population of Jerusalem grows, this
expansion and renovation will help Hadassah
continue to be at the forefront of health care
innovation and cutting-edge research.
“I don’t think there’s any bigger and better
partner with Jerusalem than the Hadassah
organization. The future of Hadassah…is the future of Jerusalem.” Mayor Nir Barkat.
Join us in our commitment to healing tomorrow.1. 800. 928. 0685

Sadness and Celebration by Ellen Richter
April is a month of sadness and celebration for the Jewish people. The month
begins with the end of Passover when Yizkor is recited for loved ones. Candles are lit in
homes as a mark of respect and a way of remembering those who have passed on.
Yizkor tablets, tablets of remembrance of the dead, often appear on at least one wall of the
synagogue. The lights signify that the departed still shine in the lives of their survivors!
Holocaust Memorial Day, Yom Ha-Shoa, April 11th, commemorates the
Holocaust by recalling remarkable acts of courage of the people who desperately
fought for life! Special services, gatherings and lectures mark this day and the
world Jewry has vowed “never again” will genocide be met with silence and
indifference!
Israeli Memorial Day, Yom Hazikaron, April 18th, is Israel’s remembrance to its
fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. The message that links Israeli Independ-
ence Day with this day is that Israelis owe the very existence of the state to the sol-
diers who sacrificed their lives for it!
Israeli Independence Day, Yom Ha-Atzma’Ut, April 19th,
commemorates the declaration of Israeli statehood. Members of
the “provisional government” read and signed a Declaration of
Independence in Tel Aviv!

On February 19th, our Chapter listened to a fascinating
presentation by Yael Mor, Shalicha (emissary) from
Israel. The delightful young lady taught us the
difference between kibbutz life then and now, her
family time on the kibbutz, her time in the army and
her past army activities. Yael is well travelled and was
anxious to share her passion for Israel. Her year long
visit to our community is sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Pinellas and Pasco counties.
