We’re making fan blocks. Mark’s year as our guild president is coming to an end, and with that in mind let’s show our appreciation for his service to our guild by making a quilt block (with you signature) as our gift at the end of his year. Mark has requested that we make fan blocks with these specifications: 9-1/2 inch unfinished size Fan Block (there are many varieties, both traditional and modern) Black background with bright & colorful fan blades One fan blade to be white or very light fabric for your signature and/or message to Mark Please have your block to Rebecca Trevino at either of the September guild meetings.

Quilt Blocks for Mark Towle’s Appreciation Quilt By Rebecca Trevino, President

The guild has several interesting programs planned for this Fall.

Our first program on September 20, 2018 will be Kelli Thompson of KT Quilt Designs. Kelli has designed and

published several quilt patterns. She had two art quilts exhibited at the 2008 International Quilt Festival in

Houston one of which received an honorable mention. Kelli is a frequent instructor at Quilter’s Corner in Alvin.

She promises an interesting trunk show followed by a workshop on free motion quilting zentangle style. Mem-

bers can sign up for this $30.00 workshop at the membership table at our guild show or by contacting your

program or workshop chairs: Joan Bell, Darleen Patton and Judy Wolter.

October 3, 2018 Margie Lawrence will present a trunk show focusing on Round Robin quilts. Her presentation

will have lots of ideas for the guild’s planned round robin activity – including guidelines for construction & pit

falls to avoid.

October 18, 2018 Joe Cunningham – also known as Joe The Quilter of Rocking Stitch Production of San Fran-

cisco will present a trunk show My Life in Quilts followed by a workshop featuring his Rock the Block pattern.

Joe is known for his free form designs which hang in galleries, museums and private collections. The workshop

will show you how to take one of Joe’s free form designs and make it your own original. He emphasizes per-

sonal creativity, “toss the rules” and above all fun, stress free time with your fabric.

November 15, 2018 Mary Massey will present Pieces of the Past followed by a workshop to construct a piece

with the Rose Star pattern. Additional information will be available in later newsletters.

Programs by Joan Bell, Judy Wolter and Darlene Patin

If you are requesting finds or turning funds in, please fill in the correct form, signed by your Chairperson. Just turning in cash or a receipt with no paperwork doesn't

help me get it in the correct category.

Thanking you in advance for your help. I do appreciate it.

QUILT SHOW: “A Decade in Stitches” September 7-8, Stafford Centre The time has come! So, here’s what to do to make it a fantastic show:

Volunteer! There are still spots open for people to help with set up, starting at 9:30 am on Thursday, Sept. 6, and to work the show on Sept. 7 & 8. Even just a couple hours would be appreciated. Although we’ll gladly ac-cept “walk-ins”, it would be very helpful if you’d schedule your time. Please

contact Sherri Stringfield at [email protected] to sign up.

Attend! Grab your friends and fellow quilters and come! Show hours are 10-5 on Friday, and 9-4 on Saturday. $9 pre-sale tickets, for guild members, will be available through set up on Sept. 6. Please bring the exact amount of cash. All tickets purchased the days of the show are $10 (kids 12 and under free with a paying adult). Members are asked to park toward the back of the

lot to keep close in spots open for the public.

Participate! “Make and Take” a cute finger pin cushion, watch a demo or two, try your luck at the Raf-fle Baskets, honor our veterans, bid on one of the gorgeous Live Auction entries and definitely check out

all the great quilts! See below for a list of daily events.

Shop! Our show wouldn’t be possible without the vendors. Please support them, and let them know you’re a guild member when you do. Besides, there’s always something you “need”, right? And new

this year is our Artisan Market filled with handmade items for you to purchase.

So, see you at the show!

A note from Susie Doe about Quilt Appraisals:

Jane Hancock, our certified quilt appraiser, will be appraising quilts during our show hours on Fri-day, September 7 and Saturday, September 8. If you have any quilts that you would like to have appraised, please remember to bring them to the show. Her booth will be set up in the northeast corner of the main show floor as you enter the hall (across the aisle from the Best of Show dis-play). The cost is $50/appraisal, and she will be donating $18/appraisal back to the guild. (If you 'forgot' to schedule one of your entered show quilts for appraisal she is able to appraise them while hanging at the show).

THANK YOU!

The Basket Raffle Committee would like to thank everyone who contributed something for the bas-

kets. We have an AWESOME assortment of items for the raffle. Our continued success is be-

cause of your generosity and support. Many hands make light work. Thank you, thank you,

thank you!

From Carol Kettlewell

If you still want to bring food to help at the show just bring it with you on Thursday when you come to help.

Fall Retreat by Carol Kettlewell

Just a reminder that our guild retreat is coming up a very few days after the quilt show. It will be a nice change of pace after the work and excitement of the show. Our days are Sept 23 - 27. If you want to come on Sunday and get settled in and set up it is $300 but if you can't come until Monday morning then the cost is $275. Remember that beautiful pool and hot tub so throw in a suit along with all that fabric and patterns. If you plan on playing our little game, it has been suggested we shorten it some so only bring10 batik fat quarters. We will go from there.

Activities by Lisa Patterson

One of the things I love about being part of a quilt guild is the shared love of my favorite hobby. I love Quilters ... all Quilters, new, old, traditional, artsy, quirky ...

When I volunteered to be the “activities” coordinator for this year it was with sheer joy of sharing the best hobby in the world! One of the things I wanted to do was to try get as many of my fellow mem-bers to participate together in activities they love. As part of this, this guild year we will be holding a “round robin” and would like as many members as possible to participate. The more people who par-ticipate, the more fun we will have! We want to make it easy for you to participate also, so we are going to have choices for you ... We will have a “traditional”, a “mini” and a “row” robin.

Everyone who wishes to participate will do so as part of a group (either one you have put together or one in which we will put together). For the traditional and mini you will make a central medallion, and your group participants will add a row, at the end of it you will get back a completed quilt top (traditional) or a wall hanging (mini). For the Row robin, each group member will make a row and you will get back all the rows, which you will assemble.

Please consider joining! This will be a fun activity!! Registration forms will be available at the Sep-tember day meeting. If you have any questions please contact Lisa Patterson at [email protected] or by phone at 281-904-0925

Three of our CPQG quilters will be demonstrating hand quilting and lecturing about the role quilts played in the civil war during Texian Market Day at George Ranch Historical Park.

Barbara Young, Gwen Goldsberry and Grace Clarke will be in full civil war era clothing at the 1860's house. Bring your family to this annual event on Saturday, October 20 from 9 am to 5 pm. For more information log on to Georgeranch.org If you have a crank sewing machine from this era and would like to loan it for demonstration please see Grace Clarke or call/text 281-844-0680.

Coastal Prairie Quilt Guild Minutes of the July 11, 2018 Board Meeting

(approved August 1, 2018) The meeting was called to order by Mark Towle, President at 3:00 pm at the Hickory Inn BBQ loca-tion on FM1092 in Missouri City.

Board Members in attendance: Mark Towle, Rebecca Trevino, Cathy Price, Diane Hickey, Kay Paul, Darlene Patin, Gwen Goldsberry, Joan Bell, and Sherri Stringfield. A quorum was present. Committee Members in attendance: Pauline Manes, Sakeenah Mubashshir, and Barb Wall.

The Minutes of the June 6th, 2018 Board meeting were discussed. Joan Bell noted that the pre-senters on the minutes were not all local. She will send the updates to Cathy Price. The minutes were approved as with the corrections noted. The Treasurer’s Report from June 2018 was approved as presented. The Treasurer’s Report from March 2018 was approved as presented since not approved previous-ly. The Treasurer’s Report from April 2018 was approved as presented since not approved previously. Discussion Points: Donation Quilt 2019 At this time, a top, batting, and backing are with Lisa Patterson for quilting. She is aware of the schedule for the Trifold. Pauline Manes indicated that a picture of the quilt is needed by August 1st. Rebecca Trevino will follow up with Lisa. Joan Bell indicated she would have a programs list by that date. By-laws Cathy Price noted that while a PDF can be downloaded from the website, a MS Word version is needed for the Guild secretary’s files. Mark Towle will find the copy from the update committee and get this to Cathy. July - Election of Officers The nominating committee for next year’s Board consisted of Joan Bell, Diama Cortez, Gracie Clark, Pauline Manes, and Linda Towle. Joan reported that they have had two resignations since Diama and Gracie will be running for office, but the committee has completed filling the ballot ex-cept for a President-elect candidate. At the evening meeting in June where this was announced, Debbie Garner was accepted as the President-elect candidate. Barb Wall noted that the list of candidates and their bios have not been published in the June and July newsletters due to issues with the newsletter. Joan will get this information from the candi-dates. The First Vice President -Program Chair Gwen Goldsberry will coordinate the election committee if Pam Biswas is unavailable for the Election. Next Year’s Committee Chairs Changes needed for Standing Committee Chairs were discussed. Diane Aleman has resigned as Editor, and Mark Towle has volunteered to become the Editor effec-tive this month. Linda Towle will be resigning as Librarian at the end of August. Jen Pazicni will be resigning as Webmaster at the end of August. Gwen Goldsberry will contact Jen to see how this is being done and may be interested in volunteering for this position. Peggy Johnson and Rita Evans will be resigning as coordinators for Hospitality at the end of Au-gust. Sherri Stringfield has volunteered to become Bee Coordinator. The 2019 Donation Quilt Presentation coordinator position is open.

The 2020 Donation Quilt Making Committee chair is open. Sherri Stringfield noted that if the auction quilt her bee is donating does not make the $500 reserve price that has been set, this quilt will be donated to the Guild for the 2020 donation quilt.
