Ascom FreeNET VoWiFi Data Collection Survey
Overview
The purpose of this document is to collect all necessary information from the customer site to configure the Ascom FreeNET VoWiFi equipment and handsets. It will require information from a combination of sales (Customer, Reseller, and Ascom), network administrator, PBX/CO technicians, project management, and telephone system administrators to complete this document. An Ascom FreeNET certified engineer can assist with filling out of this form.

1. General
1.1 How many handsets will be configured?
1.2 Will this install be for a Trial or Sold System? Trial Try & Buy Sold System
1.3 If this is a Trial or Try & Buy How long will it last? (14 days or less for trials)
1.4 Has the Ascom FreeNet VoWiFi System Planning Guide document been reviewed and will the recommendations be implemented prior to the Ascom Equipment installation?
Yes No
2. Network Information
Note: Access Point signal strength and channel layout is a key factor in a successful deployment. Ascom will require a RF heat map with AP placement and channel mapping of the customer’s current WLAN layout to identify any possible issues and to provide any recommendations to insure a seamless implementation.
The diagram bellows shows a typical Ascom installation.

Yes No2.1* QOS is a very important component of a successful integration. Will end-to-end QOS be
implemented? (Between the AP’s and the switch port interface that the Ascom VOIP Gateway is connected to?) (Section 4 System Planning Guide)
2.2* Will 802.1p priority for voice packets be set to 6 as recommended?(Section 3 System Planning Guide)
2.3* Will the DSCP values be set to 46 (expedited forwarding) in the switches as default? (Section 3 System Planning Guide)
* NOTE without these set correctly the quality of voice communications may suffer

Yes No2.15 Is guest access permitted on your wireless network
If guest is permitted, is it limited to certain areas?2.16 Is Radio Resource Management (RRM) (Cisco), Adaptive Radio Management (ARM)
(Aruba), Automatic Channel Selection (ACS) (Symbol), Dynamic Power Transmit Power control (DTPC) (Cisco) or similar technology being used?(Section 9 System Planning Guide)Also see this article http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters/wireless/2006/1002wireless2.html?page=1)
2.17 Will WMM (802.11e/EDCA) be enabled on the access points? WMM is required for a successful implementation. (min. Cisco 12.3(7))
2.18 Will U-APSD (WMM-PS) be enabled on the access points to extend handset battery life?Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (UPSD / UAPSD / WMM-PS) extends the battery life of mobile clients. Having both WMM and Voice Optimization enabled (Autonomous Cisco IOS 12.3(8)JEA or WLC 4.2.61.0) on the radio interface allows you to have UAPSD in the handset if desired.
2.19 Will the DTIM be set to 5 on the access points to extend handset battery life? (Default on Cisco AP is 2) (Section 11.5 System Planning Guide)
2.20 Will there be a separate VLAN for voice traffic? (Section 3 System Planning Guide)
2.21 The Ascom VOIP Gateway requires trunk port connectivity to the VLAN. Will there be a port set up on the switch to support a trunk port? Please provide the VLAN ID: (Trunk Ports are required - If you do not have a trunk port AND if the VLAN ID you're using to communicate with the handsets / APs with native (a.k.a. untagged) you lose your layer 2 QoS features.) What make / model Switch will the VoIP Gateway be connected to? Make: Model: Software Version:
2.22 Is there a firewall between the AP’s and the VOIP Gateway switch ports? Firewalls between access points, VOIP Gateway and Ascom equipment can block traffic flow.
2.23 Is aggressive load balancing enabled on the AP’s/Controllers? (Cisco only)2.24 Is peer-blocking enabled on the AP’s/Controllers?2.25 Do you plan to broadcast the SSID? (Note that it is more difficult for WLAN clients to
roam passively when the SSID is not broadcast. Ascom highly recommends broadcasting the SSID.) (Section 4 System Planning Guide)

3. Power over Ethernet and UPS
The Ascom FreeNET VOIP Gateway(s) are powered by Power over Ethernet using a Power over Ethernet enable switch or a Power over Ethernet injector. Also, the FreeNET VOIP Gateway(s) are typically used in emergency environments. The requirement in this environment is that there is no loss of service during power outages. Therefore, the FreeNET gateway(s) power source must be plugged into UPS outlets or have their own individual UPS backup devices.
Being plugged into a circuit that has generator back up only is not sufficient to meet the needs of this system.
3.1 Will a (802.3af certified) Power over Ethernet enabled network switch be used to power the Ascom FreeNET gateway?
Yes No
3.2 Will UPS backup power for the Ascom FreeNET equipment be provided?
Yes No
3.3 Who will provide the UPS backup power systems? 3.4 What type of UPS will be provided? Wall outlets Individual Units
