About VRC
The Vetronics Research Centre (VRC) is the only Academic Centre of Excellence in the UK conducting research and training in the subject area of Vetronics (Vehicle Electronics), sponsored by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and supported by Defence Science
Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S).
Research and Consultancy
Our Strengths Independent unique expertise in one small and agile team Distinctive and mature facilities with international reputation supported by a University establishment Contributing towards future equipment capability strategy through memberships and committees Academic, non profit and cost effective
Verification Validation
Our Achievements FRES EA TDP, Vetronics package with QinetiQ and Thales VTID, Ad-Hoc strategies and demonstrator for modular IS, led by QinetiQ and Thales CDE, SbW: de-risking FPV Task3, with Ricardo Preferred Electronic Architecture Design for Future Protective Vehicle Capability Vision International reputation
Training
VSI and GVA Standards and GuidelinesArchitectures, Requirements etcCapabilities, Planning, TLCM etcDeterministic and safety Critical Systems etcHUMS, Land Data Model, LSA etcMilCAN, TTP, TTEthernet, DDS, etc
To Design, Develop, and Evaluate Vetronics Systems
Vetronics Verification & Validation Testbed
A flexible embedded systems network
Based on VSI standards and guidelines
Modular and Reconfigurable
Service-Oriented Architecture
Heterogeneous networks
Evaluates current and future vetronics networks and systems
Dedicated Stimulus lines
Technologies in the VVV rig
MilCAN-A
Ethernet
TTP
FlexRay
MilCAN Certification Rig
Developed by the VRC in conjunction with the MilCAN Working Group (MWG)
Perform conformance testing of MilCAN-A enabled devices
Conformance testing ensures misinterpretations of the specifications and development errors are detected

The Mobile Demonstration Testbed – “Buggy”
Validation platform for vetronics integration (network level)
Test ‘what if' scenarios
Follows VSI standards and guidelines
Technologies:• TTP – Drive by wire• VSI Bridges – Interconnection and
Wireless telemetry• MilCAN – Utility functions• Gigabit Ethernet
Buggy – The Electronic Architecture
Service Oriented Architecture
Emphasis on Modularity & Integration
Methodologies developed on VVV Project
Integration Example
FPV CV – Steer by Wire Technology Demonstration
Research in cooperation with Ricardo Driver protection Physical driving position flexibility Decoupling the driver Multiple Crew stations DriveWise Audi demonstrator
