September is looking like a quiet month which will give us time to rest up for the end of the year. Oct and Nov will be busy as we have the Bacchus Marsh swap meet, The Oktoberfest, Melbourne Cup weekend trip and don’t forget the DOTVW with the Christmas general meeting finishing off the year.

If we give Kingsley enough hints he may come up with something different to round out the year. Any suggestions please let me know.

In closing a reminder that the planning for the BUG IN 2009 in will be starting in the New Year so anyone with ideas, don’t be shy, pass them on as we want this to be the best event in its history. That’s it, see you all at the Annual General Meeting.

Hello for another month, with the AGM on the 18th September this may be my last report, as who knows who will be President next month?

With that in mind I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members for their support during the year and especially the committee, it has been a fairly busy year and only likely to get busier.

The general meeting at the Boathouse was a great night for socialising but unfortunately not that practical for the general meeting part, although it did result in a quick meeting. For those who went please give the committee feedback, if you think it is a good idea we could have a couple of these during the year.

Unfortunately I could not make the train trip to Drysdale but I am sure as usual it was a good day and thanks again to Kingsley for organising it.

VWCV Queenscliff Day Trip 26 August 2007

At 9am we had around 45 keen VWCV members assemble at the Shell Point Cook servo. A few more were to join us en-route bringing our total expected number up to 48, just 2 shy of the number that could be accommodated in the railway carriage on the Queenscliff/Drysdale railway. An exclusive VWCV carriage on this train had been booked for the club members by Kingsley. There were some terrific cars in attendance including a range of beetles, a T4 and split and bay window kombies. Everyone was keen to get on the road, and after Kingsley’s briefing, we headed off at 9.20am, in convoy, hoping to arrive at Queenscliff before the train to Drysdale left at 11.15am.

The trip down Geelong Road was uneventful, except for the temporary loss of a few cars at Geelong, and we all made it to Queenscliff at 9.55am. Rather strangely it seems that we had more people at Queenscliff than Kingsley had on his train-booking list, but in his usual efficient organisation style, he somehow fitted them in to the already almost full railway carriage. The train trip to Drysdale was through very picturesque seaside and farming country and the morning tea that was provided capped off a very enjoyable return trip that filled around 2 hours.

In the car park at the railway station we had the usual VWCV practice of wandering around looking at the assembled cars, taking many photographs, undertaking a few running mechanical adjustments and some detailed discussion about appropriate lunch options. Several members went to a mysterious Queenscliff hotel that had advertised $12 counter meals. Later reports indicate that the meals were fantastic value and return visits have been spoken about. Jan and I headed off in the direction of the fish and chip shop near the gardens and the famous Queenscliff Pier with quite a few other members. After a great meal we strolled out to the end of the pier to offer encouragement to the Old Man of The Sea, Stewart, who was desperately attempting to catch squid for his Sunday evening dinner. Unfortunately Stewart’s luck was not in, like Hemmingway’s character, and he also went home empty handed.

Most members left Queenscliff around 2.30pm. It was a great day, full of sunshine, laughs, great scenery, terrific cars and, probably most importantly, it was spent with a great bunch of very friendly of VWCV members. Congratulations to Kingsley on an organisation job that was, as usual, very well done!
