Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christ-centred community, equipping each student for life.

Message from the Principal Mid Murray Sports Day

Well done to students for their commitment and dedication,

particularly to practising the accuracy throw leading up to Mid

Murray Sports Day! Our school finished second behind Cadell in

the final standings which is the best result since I have been at the

school!

Mid-Murray Sports Day is a great day and an important part of our

extra-curricular activities. These community events are important for our

students to be a part of, as it is an introduction to positive socialisation

outside of our regular social networks. This is going to be a defining skill to

improving Waikerie’s future prospects, as a town of people that welcomes

newcomers and is open minded and appreciative of integrating oneself into

the wider community.

Well done to those teachers, parents and students who embrace the day for

this reason. I thought particularly this year that the community atmosphere

and spirit of the day amongst staff, students, parents and visitors was

exceptional.

Thank you!

Thank you to our volunteers for Mid Murray sports day, who manned the long

jump and sprints events. Thank you also to the students. You represented the

school well both as competitors and well-mannered students who supported

each other and also the students from the other schools!

Goodbye Balogun Family –we will miss you!

It is both with joy and sorrow that we wish Shina, Nike, Tara, Teni and Toni all

the best as they shift to Canberra. The Waikerie community will miss you.

Both Nike and Shina have a position at a hospital in Canberra, and they

have found a school for Tara and Teni to attend. We wish you God’s

blessings as you follow where He calls you!

Blessings on your week ahead and have a safe and happy holiday break.

School News

Cross Country Working Bee – Keep the date free

The Cross Country/Fun Run afternoon will be held next Term in week 8. We are

looking to roll out a pathway around the perimeter of the property to be officially

opened on the day of this event. We will be booking a working Bee with Rod Shugg

and his back-hoe on the 14th May. I know all Dads will have earned some ‘browny

points’ on the Mother’s Day weekend (the weekend before), and so will be free to

lend a hand.

Mr Borgas will be in touch to see if you can make it and to organise tools for the day!

Casual Day This Friday

On Friday there will be a plain clothes day to support Mel Paschke’s work through

Habitat for Humanity. Mel is an Electrician with Paschke Air Conditioning and is

lending her expertise to build houses in Vietnam for the local population.

Students are reminded to be Sunsmart with clothing choices and ensure

appropriate footwear to participate in fitness.

Closing Chapel

Closing Chapel will commence at 1.30pm this Friday - everyone is welcome to attend!

Our plan for Chapel is to finish the Term on a high, to ask God’s blessings on our travels

and pray that He will keep us safe during our activities over the holidays.

Opening Chapel

Opening Chapel for Term 2 will be held on Monday, 2nd May commencing at 8:50am

in the Hall. Please join us.

Student of the Week Awards

Teaching children about our Skills: Communication, Research, Social, Thinking and Self

Management skills provides them with the tool kit for successfully relating with others. As a

way of celebrating the demonstration of these skills by students, staff have elected these

students this week.

Year 6/7 Class (Mrs Waterson)

Self Management Skills - Kirk Cameron. I have been impressed with Kirk’s increased effort

towards completing his homework. Keep it up as we enter Term 2!

Social Skills - Jesse Thiele. I was impressed with Jesse's attitude and enthusiasm at Mid

Murray Sports Day. Well done Jesse for being a great sportsman!

Year 4/5 (Mrs Burns)

Communication Skills - Taylah Gore. Taylah has worked hard to challenge her persuasive

writing skills. She has extended her use of tone through the use of emotional connections,

logic and sympathy. Keep working hard Taylah!!

Communication Skills - Charlize Sherriff. I have enjoyed seeing Charlize grow and develop

her enthusiasm for writing this term. She has tried hard to challenge herself, stretch out her

sentences and add in further description through the use of adjectives. Keep up the hard

work!

Year 3/4 (Mr Fladrich)

Thinking Skills - Brodie Baring. Brodie challenged himself and extended his thinking when

using chunking for addition during Maths last week. Well done Brodie!

Self Management Skills - Derlerean Bell. Derlerean has worked hard to consistently be

organised for each lesson and complete tasks on time! Well done Derlerean!

Year 1/2 (Mrs Sherriff)

Thinking Skills - Hannah Carter. Hannah has been eager to accept challenges in Maths, to

stretch and grow her brain. She has been working on applying chunking to solve 2-digit

addition problems. Great Growth Mindset Hannah!

Communication Skills - Monique Weir. Monique has been working well in SSP, investigating

the sound clouds and developing her confidence to apply this knowledge to her spelling

choices. Keep up the great work Monique.

Foundation/Year 1 (Mrs Beelitz)

Research Skills - Evie Mathews. Evie has applied her knowledge

and used it to formulate questions to express her wonderings.

She has also recorded and organised her thoughts clearly and

neatly to convey a positive message of encouragement to

others!

Self Management Skills - Sarah Kroehn. Sarah has shown that

she can organise herself for learning quickly, having all that she

requires at her fingertips and her ‘listening ears’ on. Keep it up

Sarah!

P&F News There will be a P&F meeting held on Friday, 15th April

(last day of Term 1) commencing at 9:00am in the Hall.

This meeting will be followed by the P&F AGM. All

positions for the P&F have been declared vacant.

All welcome to attend!
