Chapter 1God's Will for Us

od burned this message in my spirit severalyears ago. It changed my life, and I greatly

desire for you to learn its truths, too. et us begin

'his doesn(t mean that you can(t build a house, but the Bible tells us that unless the ord builds or blesses it, they labor in vain that build the house.

God's will for us is that we walk in His will!

It(s one thing to say, )ord, I !now that your *ord

is your will.) It(s another thing to consecrate yourlife and say, )&od, I(m not going to go my ownway.)

However, we live in a world where everyonewants to do his own thing. +veryone wants to go hisown way, irrespective of what &od has to say aboutthe matter.

It amaes me that there is no fear of &od in the



church world today People go out and do their ownthing/ it doesn(t matter to them what &od(s *ord

may say about it. 'hey say, )I(m going to do my

own thing. I(m going to do what I want to. &oddoesn(t !now.)

'hey sha!e their finger at 0lmighty &od andlater wonder why they have come up against a bric!wall in their life and why everything goes wrong forthem. 'hey wonder why they can never ma!e it

financially. 'hey wonder why they always havesic!ness dogging their trac!s. 'hey wonder whycursings follow them everywhere they go.

'o remedy their dilemma, they bind the deviland come against him, but their problems havenothing to do with the devil. 'hey(re on a collision

course with the will of &od for their life

Conditional Promises

'he Bible contains more than thirty thousand promises, and each of those promises has a

condition. If you !eep the condition, you will getthe blessing. If you do not !eep the condition, acursing will come on you1not from &od, but fromthe enemy.

Many people are binding the devil when theythemselves need to be bound )2h, brother,) they

complain, )my finances are in a mess because thedevil attac!ed them.) 3o, it wasn(t the devil. Hedoesn(t have access to your chec!boo! or your

charge cards. &o loo! in the mirror and you(ll seethe devil who did it

5everal years ago, a man had a heart attac!

while I was preaching. I ran into the congregation,laid hands on him, and &od touched him.

'he ne6t day, I visited him at his home, as Iwas pastoring that congregation. He sat there in hisliving room, lit up another cigarette, and said, )'hedevil(s getting hold of my lungs.)

I replied, )Brother, listen1don(t attac! thedevil. *ith what you(re doing, you don(t even needthe devil)

'oo many people whine, )*ell, it(s because ofthis one. If that person hadn(t done that, then I

0s long as you blame the devil or other peoplefor everything bad that happens to you, you(re nevergoing to loo! at yourself and see if you(re to blame.

&od(s will for you and me is that we do His

will. *e don(t have an option/ we are supposed todo it. *e must ma!e this decision to do the will of

People say, )If I do the will of &od, I(ll loseout.) 7es, it may loo! li!e you(re ma!ing asacrifice, but actually it does not cost to serve &od/

here are two areas to the will of &od. 'here isthe known will of God that we can see from the

*ord of &od, and there is the unknown will of God.

''he !nown will of &od covers every area of

our e6istence on this earth. It covers every area ofsalvation, spirit, soul, and body, healing, the Holy5pirit, prosperity in every area of life, and eternallife. It(s all in the *ord. *e see in it the pattern forliving. &od(s *ord1the !nown, written *ord of

&od1covers every area of our lives.

*hen we started out in our ministry, I loo!edin my wife 0donica(s face and said, )Honey, it(s gotto get better. It can(t be as bad as it was last year. If

you(ll ust give me some time, we(ll go through thisthing and we(ll !ic! the devil(s teeth in1but we(renot bac!ing out. *e(re not going to Euit.)

Many people are waiting for enough financesto go into the ministry. 'hey will say, )7ou(ve gotto get a ob, and once you(re self-sufficient, then

you can go out in the ministry.)

I said, )&od, 7ou called me to preach, and Iwill preach if I have to preach on the street corners

and sleep in the streets. But if I can(t preach, get acoffin and have a funeral for me, for I(m cominghome if I can(t preach.)

'his might frighten some of you, but I madethat !ind of decision as we were driving along thehighway. I was sic! and tired of all the carnaladvice and opinions thrown at us by people whoseown lives were a mess.

*hen I get desperate, I shout, and I shouted,

)Help, help, help, &od) I shouted li!e that bac! in"$, too, when I was hungry for the power of &od.'his was different. 3ow I wanted the will of &od.

I said, )&od, I want your perfect will in mylife. I want it so badly, there(s no other reason forme to live if I can(t have it. &od, whatever I have to

change, I(ll change. *hatever I must do, I will do.&od, I promise 7ou I will do it. If I have to gosomewhere, I(ll go. *hatever I must say, I(ll say.&od, I promise 7ou I(m handing everything over to7ou. I want your will and nothing else. If I can(thave your will, then !ill me right now and ta!e me

home.)

'hat prayer was between me and &od myheavenly ?ather. *hy did I pray this way@ Becausea life lived out of the will of &od, no one wants.

Don(t let me frighten you by that prayer. It

represented my commitment to &od. I believe every9hristian can have such a commitment to &od, oncehe understands what &od is dealing with him about.

:5ometimes I wish I had not prayed this prayer, because it has gotten me into so much trouble=

'o continue my story, we were driving along

the highway and I was crying out to &oddesperately. *hy@ Because at that time in theministry, the only preachers who were considered)successful) were the ones who had money andwhat money could buy.

3o one ever emphasied how many souls were

getting won. 3o one emphasied the characteristicsof the anointing or healing. 'hey were ustconcerned about success. 'hey thought you werethe greatest preacher on planet earth if you had anice suit and nice ewelry. I saw so many of thoseso-called )successful) preachers running around

loo!ing li!e the image of success, but inside theywere spiritually ban!rupt. 3othing

I said to the ord, )It(s not fair. 7ou love those people more than 7ou love me.) :I am being honestabout the way I felt.= 'hen I said, )&od, there must be something they(re not telling me.) I said that

because when I got into the inner circle, it wasrotten to the core. +verything on the outside loo!edgood, but the inside was rotten to the core.

0nd I said to &od then and there, )&od, if thatis your will for the ministry, I, Rodney Howard-Browne, don(t want it. 7ou can have it, because it(sagainst what I feel in my heart is right.)

Gi&ing God Permission

I was crying by then. My wife was crying. Itwas a powerful moment. I said, )&od, I(m telling

7ou right now, I(m giving 7ou full permission toinvade my life any time of the day or night tostraighten me out. But when I get to heaven andstand before 7ou, if 7ou loo! at me and say,(Rodney, you did not do my will,( I(m going to pointmy finger at 7ou and say, (&od, it(s your fault,

because I gave 7ou permission to come into my lifeand change me.)

I saw people getting away with things Icouldn(t even thin! about. If I got away with whatthey did, I wouldn(t be able to sleep at night 5o Ias!ed, )&od, why did you let them do that@ Icouldn(t even think of doing something li!e that.)

&od said, )7ou and I have a deal. I don(t havethat !ind of deal with them. 7ou told Me you weregoing to blame Me, but you gave Me permission toinvade your life. I(m coming into your life, son. I(m

going to !noc! you straight.)0nd He did. *hen &od comes and !noc!s me,

I(m diy for several days afterwards, but that(s theway I want it. I want &od to !eep me on course. Isaid, )&od, I want to chain myself, to loc! myself,to your will. I don(t want to go to the left. I don(t

want to go to the right. I don(t want any otheralternatives. I want your will, come what may.)

7ou(ve got to get bold with &od about your

stand and your commitment &od understood whereI was coming from, and from that day on,circumstances turned around in my life.

Antil the last few years, I could never say thatI was in the perfect will of &od. I always thought perhaps I was in the permissive will of &od, butnow I !now that I !now that I !now that I(m in the perfect will of &od.

$tanding in the $tormsI(m not saying that tests, trials, and problems

won(t come your way when you(re in &od(s perfectwill. 'hey will come. But you will stand in themidst of the storms of life1that hurricane, thattornado1and you will point your finger and say,)In the 3ame of 8esus, I(m in the will of &od. 3owyou get out of here, 5atan. I(m not Euitting)

Be very careful what you pray. &od will holdyou to it. I ust !now a line was drawn that day I prayed in the car1a line that I cannot violate. If I

did, I would be in big trouble with my heavenly?ather, and I don(t want to get in big trouble withHim.

7ou can say, )*ell, Brother Rodney, I don(tagree with praying that way.) 'hat(s your business.7ou(re free to do whatever you want about it.

I(ve never !nown the blessing of &od li!e I(ve!nown it the last few years. I(ve never !nown the oy and the peace of being in the will of &od li!e

I(ve !nown it in the last three years.

&od was waiting for me to ma!e the changesand the adustments. 2ften He wants to move in

your life, but He can(t because you tie His hands7ou won(t ma!e the necessary changes andadustments.

7ou(re fighting the devil, but when &od tellsyou to change your ways and let them line up withHis will for you, you won(t listen.

If you fight the known will of &od, you can(thave the unknown will of &od for your life. But

when you conform your life to His will, saying,)&od, I want to have your !nown will,) then youcan have the un!nown will as well. 'hen &od willcome to you and give you direction, saying such

things as, )'a!e your wife and children and go tothe Anited 5tates.)

0fter paying your air tic!ets, you may haveonly J<CC left over, but you get on the airplane witha spring in your step and a smile on your face because you !now that you(re going in the will of&od, and the will of &od will sustain you. It willta!e you to the ends of the earth, and you will lac!for nothing.

'ests and trials might come your way, but youwill stand under the anointing of &od and see the

supernatural and the miraculous. *hen people loo!at you, they will envy you, and they will say, )Iwant what that person(s got,) but many are not

prepared to ma!e the commitment necessary tohave it.

'he necessity for strong commitment also

holds true in the natural realm. *hen certain greatsportsmen were down in the gutters, living in poverty and street fighting, they made acommitment% )*hatever it ta!es.) 'hey fought theirway up the ran!s until they became worldchampions. It too! unswerving commitment and

dedication on their part to do it.

Locking nto God's Will

It ta!es the same !ind of unswervingcommitment to answer the call of &od and performthe tas! He gave you to do. ?or e6ample, when weleft 5outh 0frica to come to the Anited 5tates, a pastor came to me and said, )7ou(re missing it. 7oudidn(t hear from &od.)

2f course, your critics will always hold upyour past mista!es before you. )7ou did this three

years ago, so who do you thin! you are@) If &odonly uses people who never made mista!es, thatcancels every one of us out

I can(t believe that people will leave their homechurch and move to a town where there(s noadeEuate church, or not even a church at all, simply because they(re offered a big raise in salary.

'hey(ve told me, )Pastor, we(re leaving thechurch. *e understand there(s no church wherewe(re going, but we were offered such a great business deal. ?or the first time, my wife and !idswill be able to have a swimming pool. 'hey offeredus a company car, too, so we !now it truly must be

&od.)

'hey never even as!ed &od what His will was5o they went to their new town. 'heir !ids bac!slidand ran away from home. 'heir own lives end up inruin, and they say the devil did it. It had nothing todo with the devil

'he Bible says, )'here is a way which seemethright unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways ofdeath) :Proverbs "%"#=.

0ll human parents have a will for their child.7ou love that child. He never ceases to be your

child. He may not be in your will, but he still isyour child.

But children will say, )I don(t care what my

mother and father say1I(m going to do my ownthing. I(m "; now. Mom and Dad don(t !nowanything. 'heir brains have been froen. 'hey can(t

relate to me. 'hey don(t !now what I(m goingthrough. 'here(s a generation gap.)

Do you thin! it pleases the heart of the parentto !now that their child is going against their will@ 3o, but they are still related. 7ou don(t stop beingsomeone(s child ust because you(re not in their will.

7ou are &od(s child, and He loves and caresfor you, but you(re either in His will or you(re not inHis will. 0nd if you(re not in His will, you(ve got toget to the place where you are.

I go to &od in the morning, and as!, )&od,what is your will today@ *hat do 7ou want me to

7ou say, )'hat(s being too spiritual.) 3o, theBible says when you commit your way to the ord,He(ll bring it to pass.

thy will, 2 my &od.) )I delight) means it(s fun, it(s oyous, it(s wonderful, it(s e6citing, it(s glorious todo the will of &od. I(m having fun doing the will of&od. I want to do His will. I(m so happy doing His

will 0nd everyone gets upset because you(rehaving such a good time1doing the will of &od.

without first consulting &od. 7ou have no right todo so. 2nce you(ve been born again, your life is notyour own. 7ou(ve been bought with a price. 7ou(ve

been washed in the blood of 8esus, and you mustconsult 8esus about your life. *hy@ Because He hasthe perfect plan and the perfect will for you, andthat should be your desire.

'hen, when you wal! in His perfect plan and perfect will for you, your life will be one big

adventure in the Holy 5pirit, morning, noon, andnight. 7ou(ll never !now what is going to happenne6t. It(s fun

Anfortunately, most people are afraid to followthe will of &od. )If I do the will of &od,) they say,)I(ll lose everything.)

3o, you(ll gain more. 'he Bible says, )'he blessing of the ord, it ma!eth rich, and he addethno sorrow with it) :Proverbs "C%##=. It(s the blessingof the world that ma!es you rich and brings sorrowwith it.

*hen you(re under the world system, you(reworried about where every dollar is going. 7ou(reworried about someone stealing your money. 7oulay awa!e nights, trying to figure out how you(regoing to !eep your last cent.

2n the other hand, you can(t steal the blessing

of &od from me, because I(ll #ie it to you beforeyou can steal it. 'hen I(ll use my faith to get more.5o you can have it, with pleasure. *hy do I have

such an attitude@ Because when everything belongsto &od anyway, it ta!es the whole load of worry offyour shoulders.

*e(re having the time of our lives serving&od. But when we get around some people, theylament, )2h, it(s so hard to be in the ministry

'he ministry is such a hard life and there(ssuch a price to pay. My uncle was in the ministry,and he died. 5erving &od is so hard."

7ou hear the same e6cuse from thecongregation. )7ou have to go to church, you!now, every 5unday. 'hose people want me to go
