Don't reduce city schools' capital funding• Gov. Larry Hogan outlined a budget plan that
would cut school aid to Baltimore • The new Republican governor said his budget —
with cuts to every state agency and to Medicaid providers statewide — would put Maryland on the road to fiscal health while preserving core programs from reductions.
• "Over the last eight years, Maryland families and small businesses were tightening their belts, while state government was doing just the opposite," Hogan said. "That's not right, that's not fair, and that stops today."
Budget Cuts
• Among the $143 million in cuts to K-12 education would be a 50 percent reduction in a geographic formula that compensates districts where education costs are higher.
• Education funding would be reduced by $35 million to City Schools, $561 per pupil.– Loss of more than 400 teachers or 700 support
staff– Significant cuts to afterschool programming

• STEP ONE: Commit to collecting 250, 500, or 1000 signed postcards! Turn in your commitment cards tonight! Tomorrow, contact Sharicca Boldon ([email protected]) or Rick Gwynallen ([email protected]) to arrange a time to pick up your postcards. Think big and bold! Let’s aim to have 85,000 postcards, one to represent each Baltimore City student.

• STEP TWO: Reach out to others and fill out the postcards. It’s easy! Give postcards to others in your community and have them simply write about what education means to them. Bring them to your school, gym, church, community association, workplace, etc. Get creative with it!

• STEP THREE: Return signed postcards for delivery. Drop off signed postcards at one of the two locations on the next slide. Feel free to drop them off as you get them. As long as they are all in by February 18th, they’ll be delivered right to the desks of the Governor, Speaker, and Senate President!
