Prep 100 Days of School Celebration This Friday is our big day of celebrations at school for our Preps who now have 100 days of school under their belts. It is a great opportunity to celebrate our newest community members with this important milestone. The day promises to be quite memorable with students participating in many extra special events and staying at school until 5pm when they will be well and truly ready to go home and enjoy a rest! Well I know the teachers will be anyway! SPRING FAIR SPONSPORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Warranwood Family OWNED Businesses Needed as Sponsors! We have exciting opportunities for local and school connected businesses to sponsor our Spring Fair this year for as little as $250 to help us achieve our goal of renovating the student toilets at school. If your family busi-ness or a business you have connection to can help please contact Shane to discuss how we can work togeth-er and benefit each other. ENROL FOR PREP 2020 at Warranwood If you have a child who is starting Prep next year please drop by the office and collect enrolment forms as soon as possible to assist us with planning and preparation for the transition process early in Term 4. If you know someone who has moved into the area, please encourage them to book a tour with Shane or Su-zanne and explore our school and Prep program. Enrolments are now open. If you know someone who is look-ing for 2020 encourage them to give us a try and find out why they should choose Warranwood! Shane Harrop Principal

Assistant Principal Report “IT’S NOT OKAY TO BE AWAY OR LATE” The recent catchcry from the department is “IT’S NOT OKAY TO BE AWAY OR LATE” has been ringing in our ears since the launch of a special kit and ideas to help students, come to school. This kit gives ideas about getting to school on time and ways to avoid having unnecessary days of absence. The schools within the re-gion are working together as part of a state-wide strategy, involving the support from parents and the broader community to encourage our students to be at school on time and avoid having unnecessary absences. You may wonder the reasons for the focus on this in our regional schools and there are many of which I will state a few in this report. Here are a few tips for parents and students to follow:

When you come to school regularly and get to class on time you are able to do better and will be happier at school.

Have you ever gone into class and felt strange because you can’t figure out what’s going on? Maybe it is because you missed something important during the morning or the day before and now it feels like you’ve lost the plot.

If you are away make sure you see your teacher to find out about the work that you missed and if you have any homework to catch up on.

Use your diary or the family calendar to write down important days like curriculum days, sport events, ex-cursions and when your homework is due. Ask your parent or caregiver to make sure those shopping trips, doctor and dentist appointments are not set in school time.

School is a great place to make friends. You can learn how to work as a member of a team.

Understand that school helps you become work ready. Attending school regularly and on time prepares you better for working life.

The above ways may seem small and seemingly insignificant but if we cooperate and work together we can all make a difference. Remember if you are late you need to come to the office to get a late pass. It is only when

we see education as a partnership between school, parents and the community that we will be able to properly address this issue. National Consistent Collection of Data WHAT IS THE NCCD? The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts: • the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability • the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ al-lows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. WHY IS THIS DATA BEING COLLECTED? All schools in Australia must collect information about students with disability. The NCCD: • ensures that the information collected is transparent, consistent and reliable • provides better infor-mation that improves understanding of students with disability • allows parents, guardians, carers, teachers, prin-cipals, education authorities and government to better support students with disability. Student with disability loading Funding from the Australian Government for students with disability is based on the NCCD through the student with disability loading. Students with disability who are counted in the top three levels of the NCCD (extensive, substantial and supplementary) attract the loading. Funding is based on a per-student amount at each of the three levels of additional support. The amount of the loading reflects the level of support students with disability need to participate fully in school, with higher funding for those who need higher levels of support. Australian Government recurrent school funding is provided as a lump sum to school authorities including state and territory governments, which can then distribute the funding to their member schools according to their own needs-based arrangements. The Government expects schools and school systems to consider their funding from all sources (ie Australian Government, state and territory and private) and prioritise their spending to meet the educational needs of all of their students, including students with disability. This can include payment of professional learning for staff and building inclusive cultures in schools. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE NCCD FOR STUDENTS? The information collected by the NCCD helps teachers, principals, education authorities and governments to bet-ter support students with disability at school. The NCCD encourages schools to review their learning and support systems and processes. This helps schools to continually improve education outcomes for all students. HOW IS STUDENTS’ PRIVACY PROTECTED? Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students is an essential part of the NCCD. Data is collected within each school. Personal details, such as student names or student identifiers, are not provided to federal educa-tion authorities. Learn more about privacy in the Public information notice. FURTHER INFORMATION Contact your school if you have questions about the NCCD. You can also visit the NCCD Portal. There is also a free e-learning resource about the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. TREE PLANTING DAYS AT WARRANWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL The weather was kind to us on Tuesday and Wednesday as the whole school undertook to plant trees in our school grounds to beautify our school, provide much needed shade and enhance our community with more oxy-gen. This day would not have occurred without the expertise and guidance of Kirsty Bishop- Fox who not only resourced 300 free plants from the Maroondah Council (thank you to Maroondah Council) but also educated our students about how to plant and identify the differences between a shrub and a tree. Our special thanks also go to Sarah Mitsilias and Max Phillips (grandpa to Alexis and Hannah) for their support with this huge project. Our school and planet thanks you for your hard work and efforts.

    WHEN: Monday 5th August, 2019 TIME: 6:30 – 7:30 PM

WHERE: Senior School Building Dee and Ray will be running a THRASS workshop for parents from P-6 who are interested in learning more about how we teach THRASS at Warranwood and how you can help your child at home. We will be covering how THRASS is incorporated into the curriculum, the language used and what you can do at home to support your child in their learning. We will also be showing a couple a videos on how THRASS is used in our literacy blocks from P – 6. We believe this will be a valuable and practical session to help parents become more famil-iar with the vocabulary and strategies used for reading and spelling.

FIRST AID NEWS Primary School Nursing Program 2019 Barbara Hill is a visiting primary school nurse from the Department of Education and Training who will be attend-ing Warranwood Primary School to conduct the annual Prep health assessments. Barbara will also see other children, as requested by parents or referred by teachers (with parents’ consent). The purpose of the visit is to provide all Victorian children with the opportunity to have a health assessment; to link children, families and school communities to services available in the community; and to provide information and advice that promotes health and wellbeing. Parents are invited to contact Barbara on 0412 161 471 if there are any issues they wish to discuss. Parents of students (other than Prep students) who wish their child to be seen by the school nurse need to com-plete a referral form that is available at the school office. This completed referral form needs to be then returned to the school office. Parents of students in Prep should be aware that if you do not wish to consent to the program you still must complete page 3 of the questionnaire, tick the appropriate box, sign and return the form by Monday 12 August 2019.
