On Friday, September 30th

Early Head Start went to

Many of us had never

picked our own apples and

was excited to have an op-

portunity to choose from a

variety of tasty apples.

When we arrived at the

farm, we had to travel by

wagon car to the apple

orchard. It was beautiful,

nothing but rows and rows

dren moved from tree to

apples with their families.

Some of the apples were

Just a little background on the Early Head Start Staff

Home Visitors Change their Name to Family Educators

Page 2 WCAC Early Head Start Newsletter

The title “Visitor” never adequately defined the role. It simply describes someone who comes

to your home and spends time, which could be a good thing if they are helpful or a bad thing, if

they are just wasting your time. A visitor has no relationship to family or community.

A “Family Educator” best defines the role because we service families, through referrals and

advocacy. We involve families through meaningful interactions within the home environment,

through center based socialization opportunities and through local trips. We also promote fam-

ily/ community partnerships through parent committees and policy council involvement.

The Early Head Start staff is comprised of highly trained, licensed professionals with AA’s, BA’s

and MA’s and have earned the right to be called Educators.

My name is Luzaida but I am known by Lucy for short. I have

my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been

working with children for two years now and have been a staff

member of Early Head Start for one year as of November. I

started as a participant in EHS and am proud to say that work-

ing for them now has been an adventure and a great learning

experience. I hope that with each interaction you all gain from

me will be something that you can use later on in life with your

child.

My name is Kristina. I have worked with children since I can

remember. I graduated from Quinsigamond Community Col-

lege in 2005 with high honors and an Associate’s Degree in Ear-

ly Childhood Education. I did one semester of my student

teaching in Head Start in Worcester. I ran my own home day-

care for a year and then got back into the workforce, working

in a variety of Centers and with all ages from Infant to Pre-K. I

attended Becker College and graduated Magna Cum Laude with

a Bachelor’s in Psychology. I am Lead Teacher certified for In-

fant, Toddler and Preschool and enjoy working with all ages. I

look forward to working with the families in our program!

My name is Rebecca. I have my Associates degree in Early Edu-

cation. I graduated from QCC. I have taught in infant, toddler,

preschool and school age classrooms.

My name is Margarita. I graduated from Interamerican Univer-

sity from Puerto Rico. I worked for 14 years as a kindergarten

teacher and 2 years as a school director in the Puerto Rico Pub-

lic School System.

My name is Clivette. I have 11 years experience with Head

Start/Early Head Start. A total of 28 years combined experience

in education and public service. I’ve been a teacher, supervisor,

center manager, service coordinator and educational director.

Throughout my career, I’ve been an advocated for young chil-

dren and low income families. I have a Bachelor’s degree in

education and a Master’s degree in urban ministry. I am new to

Massachusetts and look forward to working with our families.
