We are now collecting details for students at

East Maitland Public School for 2014.

If you have a child who will be attending our school in 2014 please complete the

form at the back of this newsletter, or drop by and let us know.

This will ensure that we can save a place for you and let you know of upcoming

activities that will assist in their preparation for school.

Starstruck Tickets

Can you believe it is Starstruck's 21st Birthday! To

celebrate this occasion, this year’s theme is 'The 21st'

and includes flashbacks to the very first Starstruck

held at The Newcastle Entertainment Centre in 1992!

There are four performances:

Friday 14th June at 10.30am

Friday 14th June at 7pm

Saturday 15th June at 2pm

Saturday 15th June at 7pm

LIBRARY NEWS

Last Wednesday many classes at our school

participated in National Simultaneous Story time- an

annual campaign to encourage literacy and the value

of reading. We all had a lot of fun reading this year’s

book: ‘The Wrong Book’ by Nick Bland. Check out

the photos of classes reading the book.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is well under way.

Keep reading and entering the books on your reading

record. Well done to the students who have already

completed the challenge!

DEBATING NEWS

Our debating teams had their first debates last Friday.

Both teams went up against Rutherford P.S. teams.

Our year 5 team developed a strong case and had a

convincing win as the affirmative team on the topic:

‘That bullies should be expelled from schools’. Our

year 6 team also developed an impressive case for the

affirmative on their topic ‘That primary schools

should teach self-defence classes.’ However

Rutherford’s rebuttal proved a little stronger and they

won the debate. Well done to both debating teams, we

are very proud of your efforts!

Leaders Photos

This is the last week to order the School Leaders,

Sports Leaders or Library Monitor photos. Please have

your money and form returned to school by Friday

31st May.

Sports in Schools—Term 3

Students were given an information note about the

Sports in Schools program and also a permission

note. Payments/instalments are now accepted at the

office.

Next P&C Meeting is being held at the East Maitland

Golf Club 6:30pm Thursday 13th June.

Would love to see some new faces and some fresh

ideas.

Uniform Shop

The new Microfibre Bucket Hats are $14 each.

They are more sun-safe with a wider brim.

The sizes range from 51cm to 59cm

As the weather is starting to get cooler, be sure to pop

in to the shop for all your winter needs.

Don't leave it until the last minute, if stock sells out it

takes 2-3 weeks for new stock to arrive.

Canteen News

Whole school Athletics Carnival

The canteen will be available at the sports ground on this

day. For the infants students at school the canteen will be

available for lunch only but NOT recess.
