Lecturer’s Words of WisdomFR. ANTON’S WORDS OF WISDOM: Autumn is just around the corner and I have to say that we have had

anything but a typical spring and summer. Covid-19 has brought us into a new “normal.” Who would have thought that shortly after Christmas our world would have changed so much? Our elderly suffered most, and many died from this deadly virus, the remainder who are in Long Term Care Homes have been under lockdown with little or no “human” connection. People have had to say goodbye to loved ones who were dying in hospital over the phone, using an iPad, and many had no opportunity. I hear from many people that perhaps this virus is a “punishment” from God because of the mess our world is in, however I cannot agree. If we read the Old Testament, in the story of the great flood, once it is over God tells Moses: “Never again will I destroy humanity, for they are weak by their very.” Let us make no mistake about it, our world is in a mess that is of our own creation, God has nothing to do with it and herein lies a huge problem. When we choose to reject God’s love, the message of Jesus His Son and think that we have a

better way, we are destined for trouble. God is always speaking, ever present and we have lost consciousness of this. Because of this we seem to be moving farther and farther away from who we truly are: HIS CHILDREN! We have forgotten that life is a gift, that all lives matter and that we are not owners of our earth, but caretakers. We have lessened the value of human life and forgotten that it is sacred, and seem to have no problem killing innocent children, and are willing to do away with our elderly and the infirm rather than look at the cause of their pain and suffering…. Many times, it is loneliness and a feeling of abandonment and at the end stage of life, especially for those with a terminal illness, the pain control used for palliative care could be much more effective. We look down on the poor, the homeless, the addict, the alcoholic and anyone who is down and out and make excuses for the way they live their lives, this makes us feel better about not trying to somewhat alleviate their suffering. We are regressing from a people that accept one another regardless of race, creed, or lifestyle and by our use of degrading language have created an atmosphere of prejudice, hatred, and violence. We are destroying our earth and the result is global warming which has far reaching effects that will be left for our children and grandchildren. This Pandemic, as hard as it has been to endure, has helped to enlighten us. We value our human relationships more. We seem to have more empathy for others. We have time for our families. We have learned that we do not have be rushing all the time, that it is okay to slow down. We have learned to appreciate our faith more and that our Temple’s are but bricks and mortar, WE are the Church! Many have been checking in on family and friends and helping elderly neighbours who cannot get out to shop or for whom it is unsafe.

Remember the words of our Lord in Mark’s Gospel? “The measure by which you measure will be given back to you, and even more. In this passage, Jesus teaches also by parables. He likens faith to planting wheat. The grain is planted and over time it begins to grow. We do not know how but soon a blade of grass pokes through the soil. Eventually it grows, but has not yet yielded its fruit, and then the wheat appears and is ready for harvest. The seed is faith, it is a gift given to us the moment God breathed life into our nostrils. Now it needs to be tilled. As children the seed begins to sprout, and we have an innocent faith. We believe more, we trust more, and we listen to the stories of Jesus more intently. As a child my favorite song that my late grandmother would sing to me was “Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me, for the Bible tells me so.” These were special words for a child. Here is where the seed begins to grow, and it is by grace. The second stage is our teenage years to young adulthood. Here we begin to experience the world in a much different way. We are aware of the injustices around us, and for many these are tumultuous times. Our bodies are changing, we question why we are here, we think we can conquer the world, and in times of trial or tragedy we question faith more. Many would say that questioning is wrong or dangerous, but I would argue the opposite. When we doubt or question, we search and when we search, we discover something that we did not know or experience before, and often our faith matures. The last stage is when the grain is ready for harvest, these are our golden years, and eventually we pass on to eternity. The fruit our faith should be that we left the world better than we found it, and that our lives were a living testament to the life of Christ. Therefore, the measure by which you measure indeed will given back to you. When you love, you receive love. When you are compassionate, you experience compassion. When you are generous, you will always have enough, when you are accepting of others, they accept you. When you give respect, you receive respect… and so on. So, you may be asking: “So, Father, easy to say, but how can I do it?” Jesus says: “Seek and you shall find. Ask and it will be given to you. Knock and the door will be opened to you. For the one who seeks, always finds, the one who asks always receives and the one who knocks will always have the door opened to them.” SEEK to find Jesus in your daily lives and in every situation. ASK Jesus to guide through this journey we call life, and the many trials we may have to pass through on the way. KNOCK and the doors of opportunity will open. Opportunities to make the world a better place, and an opportuning to open the door of your faith to others. You won’t have to preach, but by the way you live your life people should be able to see a light shine so brightly withing you that they will ask you the source of that light, and you can share with them your own faith journey with Christ. You may be the only light someone who is walking in darkness may ever see. We pray as did the early Christians: “Maranatha” Come, Lord Jesus.”

Grand Knight’s Message

Greetings Brother Knights,

It is that time of the year again and I hope and pray that all our Brothers and their families are staying Safe and Healthy during the ongoing Pandemic crisis. Hopeful-ly everyone had an enjoyable summer vacation especially with the warm weather we have been having.

I would like to thank the past years executive brothers for their contributions and help in the operation of our council. I also congratulate 2 new brothers for excepting positions to this fraternal years executive. Brother Morris Hucal has accepted the po-sition of Deputy Grand Knight and Brother Mykhaylo Furtak has accepted the posi-tion of Recorder. Thank You.

At this time I will mention that we have lost another of our Brothers, Brother Casmir Ziolkoski has passed away on July 26, 2020. Our sympathies and prayers to his wife Nellie and all of his family members. Vichnaya Pam’yat! May he rest in peace.

Brothers, we are all looking forward to resuming meetings and activities, but I am awaiting instructions from our District Deputy and State Deputy as to how and when to proceed. Until that time the current policy remains in effect, No Meetings. There-fore I do not expect any council to hold September meetings, except virtually. There is also a potential liability issue otherwise. Yes, Mass has resumed, most of our mem-bers are at an advanced age, they are at high risk of infection mask or no masks so be cautious and follow all rules and guidelines that have been instructed by your church. Since there cannot be any council activities such as Perogie dinners there is nothing we can do but wait. It’s a new fraternal year but let’s stay positive. We have heard from Princess Bingo Hall that bingos have resumed . Trident Chari-ties has been advised that our bingo will resume on August 29, 2020. We will only be allowed 1 bingo this day and with only 2 workers allowed each bingo. Players will line up outside and only 6 will be allowed to enter at a time and sit in prescribed sit-ting areas prior to having their temperatures taken.

Masks will have to be worn by the 2 workers and players during the bingo session.

There will be no runners selling specials on the floor. All specials will have to be pur-chased before each bingo session. The upstairs playing area will be closed off.

Our council was the recipient of a couple of awards this past summer. At the annu-al 138th KofC Supreme Convention we received the Father McGivney Award along with the Founders’ Award. A big “Thank You” to our Financial Secretary, Broth-er John Mikitzel, for submitting reports to KofC Supreme as required. Also at the KofC Ontario State Convention we were honoured with the Best Bulletin Award within our division. A big “Thank You” to our Editor Brother Dan Kaluzny for his efforts and contributions in preparing our monthly bulletins.

I wish to extend Birthday as well as Wedding Anniversary greetings to Brothers cele-brating this month. Mnohya Lita! May God grant you many years.

Again, let us not forget to offer prayers for our departed Brothers, Priests, Sister Ser-vants, and Brother Knights as well as members of their families who are ill or in re-covery. May God bless them and restore them to good health very soon.

Thanking you for your continued support. Stay healthy, stay safe!

Fraternally Yours, Vivat Jesus!

As our Lord Jesus taught in Luke 3:10-12 , the one who has 2 coats let them share with the one with none. This is a great opportunity to follow this teaching of our Lord. Buy a coat or just donate what you can to this

great cause. Coats are distributed to the children in need of the school district of your choice. For more information call the General Agent for our council Neil Bouvier at 289-639-2588. Or contact Ontario State

Office at 1-800-759-0959. Your help is greatly appreciated . God bless.

Supporting your local food bank is a great way to answer our Lord Jesus’ teaching in Luke 3:11 whoever has foodthey are to share with those who has not enough.
