Creating a graph in Word
Create the data table below:
Distance (m) Time (s)5 3
10 615 920 13
Highlight the table by right clicking and copy when the whole data table is highlighted similar to that below.
Click on Table and choose the dimensions of your table
Click on insert
Open Excel; right click in the first box and paste
Click on Insert, scatter, and pick the first graph option you should get a graph that looks like the one below and left.
Now to pick the correct graph. We almost always want Excel to do the work for us so choose the graph type that does this for us.
This option should then show a graph like the one below
Now by simply clicking on the different parts of the graph, for example Chart Title, you can add your own descriptions for your title, x-axis, Y-axis and move the equation so that it is easily seen. You may also click on and delete the series 1 and Linear (Series 1) part but this is not necessary at this time.
Finally, Copy the graph and reinsert it back into Word

The equation of the graph is now in y = mx + b format and you can calculate error if possible.
Choose the one that is circled
Now it’s your turn to practice. Follow the steps and create these 3 graphs in word. When complete email them to me at [email protected]
What does this tell you about the 2 people that ran in data table 3?
