FTC NEWSLETTER AUTUMN – WINTER 2016

Welcome to a ‘belated’ Newsletter to end the year 2016. Our apologies for the delay in this production but we have – as you know – had a very ‘full house’ of activities, which has concentrated the mind.

Following the September Newsletter, we had organised the annual ‘bake-off’ competition which was won by both male and female chefs with exceptional presentations. Our thanks must be made to our two judges who through stress of the quality in front of them eventually came to a joint decision. Thank heavens!

December was a month that ’tested’ your Committee. Not only the Christmas Party which had the support of 86 persons, but also the Pantomime.

The Christmas Party was undoubtable a great success which was ensured by all the hard work behind the scenes in preparation and presentation. We must pay tribute not only to all our members and their guests who attended, but also to Charlie, who provided excellent musical entertainment during the evening. We welcomed within our numbers, that evening, a growing number of French guests who are more than welcome.

From the Christmas Party, we embraced the pantomime – Wonderland – held in the Theatre of Hesdin, thanks to the invitation of the Maire. Congratulations not only must be accorded to both Diana and Mark for presenting such a quality programme, but also to both the cast as amateurs as well as stage hands for exceptional input to ensure a ‘final night’ which was acclaimed by not only the audience but also the local press. Following 2016 we can only go forward with a presentation by our enthusiastic cast of either Verdi’s Requiem or Nabucco!

For those that were not with us that evening – or would like a reminder – here below is a ‘taste’:

A DVD of the pantomime will be available shortly at a cost of around Euros 7.50.

On Thursday 22nd December, your Club was represented by both Gillian and Roderick Hutchison at the Marconne party for the ‘less well-off”, hosted by the Maire. Presents donated by your Club were given to all the children present. Our thanks to Charlie who kindly offered an evening of music to entertain both young and ‘more mature’!

We look forward to 2017 and all the events that are programmed. We thank you for all your support and would ask that if you would be willing to contribute on our Committee to ensure continued success of your Club – then please let us know.

Welcome to 2017 and we look forward to our February ‘gathering’ on the 7th when Don will test us yet again. Of course the gastronomique delicacy to accompany Don’s quiz will be – soup.
