You will acquire a general understanding of popular applications such as word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, internet/ research and keyboarding.. The primary course objective is for you to become familiar with the capabilities of these resources. It is hoped that you can later apply your knowledge, using computers profitably in your chosen field of endeavor. Course Outline: Basic Keyboarding Essentials of Microsoft Word Essentials of Powerpoint Essentials of Excel Other Computer Applications GOALS 1. To help students gain the skills necessary to operate a computer keyboard properly. 2. To give students the opportunity to learn how to type the alphabet, numbers and most symbols by touch with speed and accuracy using correct fingering. 3. Students will learn the basics of the Microsoft Word Processing program, Excel spreadsheet program and PowerPoint presentation software. 4. Creative writing skills will be enhanced as well as grammar skills. 5. The above goals will help students become self-directed individuals who can set ambitious and realistic educational, career and personal goals and who can demonstrate responsibility in meeting course expectations J. Expectations:Students are expected to:

Be Ready- with book, notebook, mechanical pencil and other required materials; be ready to learn by actively participating in class when the bell rings.

Respect- respect the teacher, themselves, and their classmates Be Responsible- complete and return all assignments; this includes NO CHEATING

and keeping the classroom clean. Follow all Academy and School Rules

Task: Points Assignments/Projects/Assessments : Participation/Projects/Homework- Participation: Students must take careful notes of the dispatch, examples, and discussions in class.. Quizzes: Small project-type quizzes will be assigned throughout the semester. Excessive tardies and absences will result in a lowered Assignment grade.

Total 100%Work Habits and Cooperation: Materials: It is required that you be prepared with the right materials (see above) and that you actively participate in class. Participation: For students who are frequently tardy, absent, or fail to participate, their grades will suffer.

Extra Credit: Students who show exemplary work in projects will receive extra credit. Students who attempt challenging problems on homework, quizzes, and exams may receive extra credit. At times, exams will contain extra credit problems. Group study will also be a means to receive extra credit. Extra Credit will be determined at the Teacher’s discretion.

Intervention: Students who score below 50% on examinations will be given the opportunity to rewrite the examination for additional points. Late Assignments: No late assignments will be accepted without an excused absence. Late Exams/Quizzes: Unexcused late Exams and Quizzes not completed in the class period will lose 10% of the resulting grade. After two weeks from the issuing of the exam it will no longer be able to be taken. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange a time to take make-up quizzes and exams. Tutoring: I will be available for tutoring Mon-Thursdays 7:00am- 7:30 am. Tutoring is also available on campus after school on a daily basis. Grading Scale:A 90% and aboveB 80-89%C 70-79%

D 60-69%F below 60%

Academic Dishonesty:Cheating will not be tolerated in my class at any level. Cheating is any unauthorized

communication among students during a quiz, test, or copying homework. It is grounds for a zero on the assignment/quiz/test and further disciplinary action.

Class Rigor and Parent Involvement:

Thank you for the opportunity to teach your students. In order to pass the course students will have to diligently complete assignments and closely follow classroom instruction. It is essential that the student come to all class sessions. Please encourage your student in assignments, class attendance, and exam preparations. Students may come for tutoring before school at 7 am or after school at 2:30- 3pm. Students may also be held after school for a 5-10 minutes detention for breaking class rules. Los estudiantes pueden venir para el curso antes de escuela en 7 o después de escuela en 2:30- 3pm.  Los estudiantes pueden también ser sostenidos después de la escuela para  un 5-10 minuta la detención para romper reglas de la clase.
