Learn these letters and sounds:
Phase 2 – h, b. Phase 3 – oi, ear, air.
Phase 4 – all phases.
Practise reading tricky word trucks.
Word work: Find and use adjectives to describe a painting.
Today you are going to learn about
Kandinsky. He used many colours and shapes to describe his feelings. Can you research some more information about him? There are some facts and examples of his work if you scroll down. Also:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXcAkgPKDxc
Look at his Concentric Circles painting. How do you think Kandinsky was feeling when he painted this? Happy, sad, angry? How do you feel when you look at this painting? Around the painting write some adjectives to describe feelings. Use an online thesaurus to find more interesting adjectives.
Count in 2s

Further learning: Can you find pairs around your house e.g. pairs of socks. Can you
count them in 2s? How many are there?
Wellbeing/Art – Grab some paints (or playdoh, food colouring) and
experiment with colour mixing! We can use colours to make other
colours, like Kandinsky. What are the primary and secondary colours? How
can we mix these to make new colours? Which are ‘warm’ and ‘cool’ colours? How do you change the tint (lighter) or shade (darker)? Do the colours give you different feelings? Make a colour chart. Save your new
paints for tomorrow.
TuesdayPurple Mash – Cloze activities. Put the correct
Art: Create a piece of art work based on Kandinsky.
Remind yourself of what you found out yesterday. Today you are

going to make your own Concentric Circles art piece. Fold up a sheet of paper to make 6-8
squares then unfold. Draw in concentric circles. Use the colours
you made yesterday and try to choose colours that describe how you are feeling right now. If you
don’t have paint, this can be done with colouring pens or pencils. Play
classical Russian music as you create, just like Kandinksy did!
Further learning: Ask your family to hold up their hands (and feet!). How many fingers and toes are there? Remember to count in 5s!
your phonics, can you write sentences to describe what you did, why you chose those
colours and how they make you feel. You could write instructions for another person to
make their own painting. Remember to include capital letters and full-stops.
Wednesday
Year 1 common exception words.
A year one objective is for children to learn to read and spell these
words. Go through the words and tick off
which ones they know (doesn’t have to be done all in one go).
Over the coming weeks, practise words they don't. This could be just one or two per
week. Ideas to help: Put the words on post its on
the wall and take a few seconds each day to
read them. Look for the words in books/on signs/labels
etc. Ask the children to
make the words using playdoh, paint, water brushes, glitter, etc.
English: Research an artist and write an artist study.
Research who Andy Warhol was and what he did. Have a look at some of his art work. What do you think?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUoqetH1iJo
Complete the artist study below. Or this can be completed on Purple Mash.
Counting in 10s

Wellbeing/fine motor control.
Andy Warhol used a lot of repeating patterns. Use stamps (you could make potato stamps!) to make repeating patterns.
Learn to spell them by playing hangman.

PSHE – To learn about different emotions. Discuss what we can do when we experience strong emotions.

happy/sad/angry/excited? Discuss with an adult using these sentence starters e.g. I feel happy when…I feel angry when…
Draw a picture of a strong emotion e.g. anger, sadness, worry. It is okay to sometimes feel this way as this is a normal feeling that we all sometimes have, but we need to learn how to handle these emotions so they don’t control us. What can we do? Talk to someone, write our feelings down, count and breathe slowly are ways we can help ourselves.
Start and finish new sentence openers:When I am worried/angry/sad I can…

There are some virtual tours happening of famous UK iconic attractions - visit the houses of parliament where your child can see where decsions are being made at www.parliament.uk/visiting/virtualtourOr why not visit the tower of London as our summer topic usually focuses on kings and queens and London – www.youvisit.com/tour/meadk
Extra practical ideas: Water play – the warmer weather is a great opportunity to let your child explore filling and emptying different sized and shaped containers
and talking about measuring liquids. Outdoor letter formation – use chalks to write words and letters and your child can trace over them using water and a paintbrush. You can
jazz this up even further by adding glitter to the water! Develop fine motor skills by getting children to thread cheerio’s onto spaghetti or pasta onto string. Use old spray bottle to get children to spray the plants to develop hand strength.
Include your child in chores such as hanging out the wishing – using pegs is great for fine motor development and hand strength.
